OOC: Thought I’d create a separate topic/cross post so that James could continue with the investigation as Major Vonn and not clutter it up with two things going on at once

IC: “Roger that Captain, Oscar Mike.” His response was short and profession, though if one had the background of the Starfleet Marine Corps the last part was more just habit for him. The ‘Oscar Mike’ response indicated that he was already ‘On the Move’. He turned towards the Lieutenant that they had been escorting towards the security room, “Apologies Lieutenant, I’ll be leaving you here. I can assure you that you’re in good hands with Major Vonn here. He can assist you with any request within reason that doesn’t compromise our protocols. If you’ll excuse me..” He gave a small nod of his head before turning back the way they had just come pausing for a moment before the door behind them buzzed and allowed him through before closing behind him again.

It took a while to get through the checkpoints again and then out of the prison sector of the ship. If they had received an interesting communication the Captain would most likely be on the bridge .. or possibly in her ready room? He headed in that direction and stepped into the turbo lift. Hmm .. wonder what sort of communication was received? Chances are it’s probably encrypted, but we’ll have to figure out how to deal with that. He scratched his head as he thought, leaning back against the bulkhead of the lift. The moment of relaxation was brief as the turbo lift opened, he pushed himself off the wall with his shoulder blades and stepped on to the bridge, looking for the Captain.

OOC: Somehow, my eyes glanced right over this! Ignore the other thread. My apologies!!

IC: The Captain was situated on the other side of the bridge, her uniform clad form leaned over, watching a scanner for the information that had come up from the detailed observations of the universe around the Swift. Raising her head from where she stood beside a rather attentive human male, she shifted her attention to the Colonel, inclining her head to the fellow Marine, or in her case, ex-Marine. “Colonel, with me, please.” She nodded to a Lt. Cmdr. DH, for them to take the bridge, her gaze quickly thwarted from the silent order, as she flicked her wrist for the man to follow her into the office.

Stepping inside, she made certain the doors were closed behind them, her back to the hissing mechanisms, heading directly towards her desk, where she turned the monitor for the man to see what was upon it. For right now, it was blank, obviously to make certain nobody who came into her office, had any idea of what was actually there. It was a basic move of hiding something in plain sight, but it worked so well, when it came to what she was trying to accomplish. “Please, have a seat, this information concerns you and your officers. And seeing as we both have equal power on this ship, it is best for you to see this, first.”

OOC: No worries!! I also could have sworn I posted a reply to this :O Maybe it was one of the ones I left open and started typing, but then got distracted x_x

OOC: No problem!

IC: Once he noticed that the Captain had noticed him he inclined his head to her as well to indicate his understanding, and followed along towards her ready room. On his way he gave a small nod of respect to the Officer who was now in charge of the Bridge as well. As they entered he took a seat as she requested and rested his forearms on his knees, leaning forward with hands clasped in front of him. “Of course Captain, so .. what’ve we got?” He still seemed somewhat informal, but from his interest at the screen that she swiveled around indicated that he had definitely switched to a ‘work mode’ of some sort.

“Did Vonn ever tell you of his assumptions in regard to the nature of this distress call?” She inquired, taking a seat in her chair, casually leaning against the table until her firearms were fully supporting the upper half of her ectomorphic body. She focused her attention on the monitor, typing a command into the PADD beside her, currently connected and on a synchronization pattern with the larger machine. “Regardless of the fact, he inquired the computer to the possible encryption base of this code, and this came up,” the monitor soon read the statistics give by the computer.

‘Possible sources of encryption protocol are: Star Fleet Intelligence Service - 81%. Andorian Defense Force - 74%. Bajoran Secret Service - 60%. Doun Systems Engineering - 60%.’

“Upon further investigation, he determined that the Doun Systems Engineering had been experiencing legal investigation by Federation Security Forces; with employees also ranging in Intelligence and Security divisions, themselves. He was under the impression that this could possibly be who the distress signal was intended for, specifically, one of their intelligence officers, who may have been sent out earlier that month, for investigation of a classified colony.” She paused, “What I am about to show you us further evidence towards Vonn’s theory, but the information we have now? It begs to change some evidence in our case.”

“Ready?”

Marco shook his head. “No, he hadn’t mentioned it, I’m sure there’s a good reason behind it for now.” As he listened his brow scrunched as she went along. “We haven’t been able to decrypt this message yet, have we ..?” He thought for a moment after hearing the next bit .. Doun Systems Engineering .. I think I’ve heard of them before, but where? He nodded. “Send it Captain, let’s see what we’ve got.” He was prepared to evaluate the next piece of the puzzle, how did it fit in the bigger picture? What would they be able to do with this new information? He could only wait and find out.

Col. Gunther
Warden

“No. But we now have a visual of what was going on in the time of the message. The visual footage was sent and received several days after the original message. I haven’t shown this to anyone yet, finding it was best not to until I was certain of what it was.” She informed, raising an eyebrow at the man across from her. Silently, she pressed the button.

The room was dark and dingy, plants dried out by the force of an endearing cold lay plastered against the brick walls of a primitive prison. The air, it seemed to be staticy, due to the poor abilities of the camera that happened to face towards it. There was only a minimal source of light, a thin string hanging from the ceiling where it dangled a thin, cracked light, which lay idle in the absence of any wind. Without being there, one could smell the musk of the environment, the cell dirty and lathered in the fals delicacies of pathogens, dirt and more.

Slowly, a creature came into view. His dark eyes were broken to the camera, their pupils dilated as far as they possibly could be, in every effort of being able to see what was before him. His skin was a dark blue in the low illumination of the soft lighting, which offered only an eerie sense to the entire scheme of things. His antennae were crooked, snapped in odd, unnatural directions that begged to say the Andorian man would not be capable of walking, as they were the prime facilitators for his balance. Scars danced across his hand, as it rose to face the camera, attempting to recognize whether or not it had been activated. The appendages hanging form his hand were gruesome. Two of his fingers were seemingly burnt to the fingertip, another broken and nearly dismembered from the joint. His face radiated pain in ways that would be unimaginable to anyone who could not feel it.

When he spoke, his words were quick and barely recognizable by the nature of their words. His accent was deep, his language a clear match to the distress call they had received roughly four days prior. His eyes batted to and fro, as if searching for any indication of an oncoming attacker. He was skittish, his movements quick, his body trembling in a way that resembled a chill.. but his Andorian nature made it almost impossible for him to feel any sense of deep chill. He bit the inside of his lip. At a crashing noise, he whipped around, trauma clear within his gaze, before he neared the camera, only his face becoming visible to it. His voice lowered several octaves, before it suddenly cut into a scream. The camera weren’t flying, crashing to the ground. Voices were heard screeching in the background; the sound of his screams overpowering the strong voices of his attackers.

Then, they stopped.

The camera was left playing the scene of the wall before it, where it continued until the battery had died from use of it. And that was hours in the future.

Ordering the computer to cease the recording, she turned to the man, her face solemn and still conflicted by the words and sights she had just experienced. “Did you hear the language they were using?” She asked, trying to avoid discussing what had happened to the man, and what she feared was likely the fact. “The Strong annunciation of their words, the quick beats, the slaps and rolls of the tongue— that sounds like Klingon to me. What do you think, Colonel?”

Captn. Bov’ar

His usual friendly, warm expression slowly grew colder and more calculating the longer he watched the video. Towards the end it was clear he was completely focused on the video, trying to extrapolate anything he could from it.

“Hmm, a few things are clear in this video. An Andorian man was definitely tortured here for an extended period of time. So this place has existed for a while. It’s low tech so that most scanners won’t find any activity. He didn’t have much clothing left on him, but with his vigor to even get this recording out, let alone find the technology in that place to do it.. my assumption is that he’s part of the Andorian Defense Force? Perhaps from one of their special operation divisions ..”

He brought one of his knuckles up to his lips and scratched his chin with his thumb for a moment before continuing. “There’s not much that can scare or intimidate an Andorian, but like you mentioned the sharp tones of the language and their abrupt entrance, my thoughts are that his pursuers were definitely Klingon. We weren’t able to see them on the camera, but I would assume that they’re not part of the KDF. Bounty hunters perhaps? Mercenaries?”

Col. Gunther
Warden

“He seems to be from an Andorian Defense Force, maybe even the Imperial Guard, to be quite honest. Yes, I do agree.. There is no way these people are a part of the KDF. They might be a rather grotqesue organization at times, but they have more sense than to do something like that. Unless you have other experience with them,” Being a Marine-Gone-Captain, she enjoyed moments like these, for the sheer fact that she could talk to someone and they would understand what she was trying to say. “They might even be in collaboration with the Orion Syndicate. They have been picking up on activity recently, and they could have deliberately recruited some mercanaries or bounty hunters, in order to make a statement against the Andorian empire. A sort of, ‘I’m big, I’m bad,’ sort of thing. An aggression statement, if you would.”

For a second, she seemed to consider his words again, tapping her fingers against the top of the desk she sat at. Eyes narrowed to small slits, she chewed on the inside of her cheek. “As you said, Andorian are incredibly difficult to intimidate, especially any that might be working for an Defense Force. They go through rigourous training that sometimes makes ours look like a piece of cake. With that being said.. It is possible this could be someone else. However, with the stance of the Klingon Empire and the Andorians, I’m still leaning away from this being a federal organization, especially since we haven’t heard of any outbreaks between the Empires, as of recent.”

“But that doesn’t rule out that we could be dealing with Klingon tyrants,” She remarked, “People who may have once been affiliated with the KDF. Which could have given them the training to do what they have to that Andorian man. I’m not sure. Any theories, Colonel?”

Captn. Bov’ar

Gunther sat back in the chair for a moment staring at the ceiling. “I’m sure they were trained by someone, whether or not it was the KDF I can’t be certain. One thing that I do know about Klingons is they can’t exist without structure. At least they don’t do well in anarchy. There’s always a command structure because their honor demands it I guess?” He shrugged. “I can definitely see this as a personal attack against an organization.. Does Starfleet Intel have any information they might send our way?” He sounded doubtful considering that we somehow managed to decrypt this video thanks to the Major’s assessment of the encryption protocols.

“I doubt Starfleet Intel will be offering any assistance in this case. They seemed fairly dry when I sent to communique to them, requesting any information they might have on rogue groups in that sector. However, they gave nothing in return. Either they’re hiding something from us or they simply don’t know. And judging by how abrupt this distress call was, I’m banking on the latter.”

“Though this does make things pretty interesting ..” He leaned forward again. “This could be an interesting lead on getting info on our missing prisoner.. were we able to extrapolate any information on the location from the video? Can we pipe it through the universal translator now that we’ve got a stable decryption base?

Col. Gunther
Warden

“None at all. The signal itself was so weak, that it seemed almost impossible to extract much information beyond the imagery, itself.” Bov’ar informed. “However, I’m sure we can find a way to retrace the steps, in hopes of finding any indication of where this might lead.” For a second, she fell silent, considering this. “Perhaps, but it would take quite some time go translate, not that time is of much essence, right now.” There was a hint of sarcasm in her words.

Cptn. Bov’ar

The Colonel shrugged, agreeing with her sarcasm. “At least it’s somewhere to start, right? I mean, we’ve done enough with less before.” An obvious reference to adapting and overcoming to any and all unknown situations from the SFMC. Many times they were given no intel and sent blindly into situations to just their reactions and abilities to take command and accomplish an objective. “Much less we don’t really know what we’re up against and with skills like our prisoner .. That can have devastating effects if she’s fallen into the wrong hands.”

Col. Gunther
Warden

“Yes.. You’re unfortunately right.. I will have the computer run a complete diagnostic on the audio, and then translate it as best as we can for the database. Once that is done, I’ll get back to you. But, I cannot promise anything speedy. These Starfleet computers are not.. Always the fastest.” Nodding, she switched gears. “The prisoner.. What is known?”

Captn. Bov’ar

Gunther swiveled the chair side to side a bit as he spoke, “From what I’ve been able to read up on and talk with Major Vonn about she’s a rather hostile Orion female with an uncanny affinity for electronics and data systems. She could probably make Starfleet intel look like a joke. Her ties to the Orion Syndicate make her a valuable asset to them. Coincidentally, that makes her valuable target to other organizations as well ..” He reached up and scratched the side of his head somewhat slowly, the quiet sound of the short hair against his nails could be heard as he scratched. “Aside from that we don’t have too much to go on. We still have to go through the video files in the Command Center going up to the abduction.”

Col. Gunther
Warden

“I see. I had Intel look into recent abductions with relation to the Orion Syndicate, as that was one of our original suspects. However, the Syndicate doesn’t seem to be too active with kidnappings right now. However, that does jot throw them out of the loop. It just means, that whatever their motive, if they did this, it must have had something to do with value or whatever happened when she was in the Syndicate. Although, like you said, with her relation to the Synidcate, it could be anyone.”

Bov’ar thought for a moment, trying to figure out some approach they could take to find answers to this. “All right. Well, those files can probably give us something.” However, her voixe seemed bland and hardly hopeful.

Captn. Bov’ar
CO

The Colonel seemed to get serious again as he leaned forward over his chair, somewhat looking at the floor. “There’s one thing that’s clear though .. the timing is too perfect. It clearly has to be an inside job.. somehow .. or at least someone familiar with this ship and how it functions. One thing I can’t stand is a traitor. Hopefully the video will give us at least something to go on internally while we search for the prisoner and analyze the communications.” With the dedication and closeness of the Starfleet Marine Corps, a defector was an extremely isolated occurrence, but it didn’t change the sting or feelings of betrayal if someone did abandon their duties and brethren. To Gunther, the thought and idea of someone among any of his teams being a traitor would be worse than any of the crimes that the prisoners they were holding had committed.

Col. Gunther
Warden

Betrayal. Bov’ar hated the idea just as much as Gunther did, but that seemed to he the only answer to their current predicament. Someone was behind all of this, someone was working for the enemy line. And whoever that person was, she knew they would make damn sure to figure out who it is. “The only people familiar with this ship, are those who have worked here for an extended period of time, or had previous assignment. You’re theory is the best yet, and the video footage should prove that. However, I wouldn’t suspect whoever did this to be a fool. “If it is a traitor, regardless of being Starfleet or Guard, I want you to isolate them. Starfleet has its own brig, but that isn’t where this person belongs.”

Bov’ar
CO

Gunther nodded in agreement. “Isolation would be an excellent fit for whoever it is.” His wording was rather dark in tone, but held a simple intent on guarding this person until he could be judged by the Federation or Starfleet. He drew a long breath in and exhaled slowly, before he seemingly snapped back into his ‘normal’ self. “Right. Well, I suppose I should head back down towards the cells, right? That forensics guy should be here soon if I’m not mistaken..?” He stood, but waited for an okay from the Captain in case she had anything more to discuss.
