She had considered her work with the Tal Shiar to be at minimum satisfactory and in truth closer to exemplary. So when Lua Tal’eran received her orders to undergo Starfleet Academy training with the goal of acquiring a position on a Federation Starship, the loyal Romulan was nothing if not surprised. What followed had been three years of hell attempting to fit in with the annoying children at the academy and then a further year as an Ensign on the USS Emara before the ultimate map of her destiny was finally revealed to her.

Now, finally, it had all become clear and she was returning to her people. Not Romulans, but intelligence operatives. And so it was with an admitted degree of excitement that the woman rang the doorchime of Captain David Mills and prepared to receive her orders.

David jumped slightly, glad the door was solid and whoever it was couldn’t see him get startled by the door chime. He tugged at the hem of his uniform before calling, “Come!”

The office was–as to be expected–sparsely decorated, except for some sort of holographic display of earth near one wall, use unknown.

Tal’eran slid gracefully into the room, her footsteps almost completely silent against the hard floor. Romulan from head-to-toe, still she wore the Starfleet uniform as if it had been designed only for her, the gold and black tunic decorated with a traditional Romulan harness. Her hair was longer than the traditional cut for females of her race, although it still bore the trademark bangs framing her amber eyes.

“Captain Mills,” she declared, holding out a hand to greet her new commanding officer. “I am honoured to be serving with you. I know of some of your work in the Delta Quadrant.”
