An object triggered the wormhole at Event Horizon Station in the Delta Quadrant to open and the Memorial was tasked with investigating the object after it exited in the Alpha Quadrant.
After finding the object, the crew brought a small metallic sphere aboard to study, discovering that inside was a smaller sphere. Discovering they could open the sphere, their actions allowed something to escape! It drifted up as steam from the object and disappeared at the same time as a holographic message was played. Eventually, they discovered a boy in Sickbay named Habray and it turned out he was a Changeling.
As they conversed with Habray, the message was finally decoded and it was a warning that the creature inside the sphere was dangerous and had killed people. When confronted with these details, Habray admitted that it had happened, but it was an accident. That its presence had an unexpected effect on the Ka’saa. But before the changeling could escape, they captured him, trapping him in the sphere as a punishment and sent him away from the planet where he couldn’t do any more harm. The sphere trapped him in an inert state for eight hundred years and he had no contact with anything.
Further digging revealed that Habray was one of the One Hundred- Changelings sent out as ‘infants’ to the far reaches of the Galaxy to learn and gather information and one day return to the Great Link.
Knowing it was an accident and choosing to believe that, the crew set Habray free to once again roam, but this time more cautiously.
