Mission Summary

Synopsis – Crowsnest

With the N’mira and Victorious ready to launch the news came in: the effects of the subspace bubbles in the Sector are permanent unless there is an application of the serum called ‘Ambrosia’. Intelligence from the Romulans indicate that some may be found on the space station called ‘Crowsnest’. Led by the N’mira they set off for the station.

Not long into the journey a storm front hits – a Force 5 ion storm. Combined with the regular Sector troubles the storm buffets the vessels. Kups learned that by using his fledgling abilities he may help navigate and avoid the harsher regions of the storm. Meanwhile the science division decodes the message that was embedded in the data crystal given to them by the Romulan Commander. It was an origami bird and a message telling them whom to avoid and whom to deal with on Crowsnest. Seth and Mora meet with the Captain to explain their findings there and what was learned by the enigmatic chief of security.

In sickbay the Romulan sublieutenant discovered she is pregnant and bids to remain on the station. Her baby has a clean bill of health. Matthew departed sickbay with Simon his brother to find the Faberge Egg that he had hidden in Simon’s quarters. They work to devise a means to trap those pursuing Matthew and his friends. Gabrielle, the XO, attempts to reason with Xelloz and the Reman military leader, Qez, though this discussion ends with nothing decided. Mora Tamar, investigating the subspace bubbles, found this to be much like the bends. This encourages her to expand her research into ways to reduce the SSB’s in a person’s brain tissue. Meanwhile the CMO Setik Johnson was hard at work trying to save the life of injured crewman Michael Kilcannon, engineer.

Dulgan has a volatile encounter with Kirsten Craig, the CNS, in the lounge. Not long after this Kirsten is nearly injured by means of a door malfunction. The investigating Engineers discover it was forced by an unknown means to close more rapidly overloading relays governing the closing rates. She opts to rest elsewhere. In the quarters she is given first is found the body of Joshua Posey, the prior CE of the Victorious who had disappeared some days earlier. The CNS is taken to another set of quarters. As well, Sepok, communicates with his mysterious friend on the ship, trading information.

Within the storm the Rosson beamed over to the N’mira just as they came under attack. His goal was to find out about the prior attack. Gaining entrance to the computer core he finds it an AI much like the EMH. The ships attacking turn out to be Tholian in design only. The raiders persist in their attacks draining down the shields of the ships. In a strike to the rear shields of the Victorious it was sufficient to take them down long enough for a dozen boarders to beam into Dulgan’s lounge. First one, then a second Tholian vessel is disabled or destroyed. By the time they reached the relative ‘end’ of the storm and the battle they faced a large ‘Tholian Web’ barring their way, catching them between the retreating storm front and the glimmering deadly web.

On the Victorious the boarding party was stalled in their efforts to expand their territory by the security forces. While the security force took casualties they were still keeping the boarding force relatively contained. With the last of their forces they plan for a last assault on the troop. If this failed there would not be enough security to hold them back. In a brave assault those outside the lounge were incapacitated; the Gorn leading them captured. Beaming the wounded to sickbay they were frantically tended by the medics and counselor alike. Aries received a surprise when the doors to the lounge opened and another Marvel anachronism stood there: Ironman. He and his partners had taken care of those within the lounge. Between them the attempt at taking the ship had failed. However, they found an unexpected boon with the Gorn – as a ‘bargaining chip’ he had on his possession some of the Ambrosia, or serum which would negate the effects of the sector on the crew. With just enough in the vial, and with it unable to be duplicated, they utilized what they had to inoculate the crew to health.

The N’mira surprised the crew of the Victorious by doing a form of saucer separation. As well they launched a half dozen fighter craft, yielding the command and control of them to the Victorious for reasons unknown. While the Victorious strove to effect repairs of bridge systems, the remaining Tholian vessel retreated out of weapon’s range, firing a missile. This missile turned out to be carrying multiple warheads, sending nine smaller missiles at the battle damaged ships. The drive section holding the Remans withdrew from the battle; the fighters immolating themselves in their attempt to take out the Romulan warheads to protect their ship.

The missiles erupted into a kind of plasma weapon common to the Romulans of a century ago. Most were destroyed before meeting their targets. Two however, targeted the Victorious. Striking hard they discovered the plasma was mixed with proto-matter, altering the shield energy into plasma, strengthening the weapon as it ate away at the shields. Kups, frantically working, initiated the multiphasic shielding and rotating the frequency to gradually reducing the weapon’s power. Before it was utterly gone it had overloaded shield generators leaving them vulnerable to the radiation of Sector 51.

With the initial emergency gone, the weapons having shredded the Tholian Web, sensors showed that the station ‘Crowsnest’ was a mere third of a light year away. Taking stock of casualties the crew learned the Romulan Commander and Chief Engineer had died in the battle. As well, they were calling for the Romulan Security Chief, the enigmatic Vrellan to return and take charge as the ranking officer. With the Romulans returned to their ship and shields failing the Victorious made way for Federation space and home, having succeeded in aiding the Romulan vessel and escorting it through dangerous space to the space station Crowsnest.

At this time Simon Jacobs, the journalist, had uncovered information about the theft of the Faberge eggs. His brother Matthew, or ‘Cyclops’ had one of the three eggs in his possession. However, Sepok had been in communication with ‘The Dealer’, who had identified himself as one employed to retrieve the eggs that the others reportedly had stolen.

This and other minor details will be sorted out in the ‘inter sim’ period.
