Mission Summary

The Atlantis was assigned to escort a convoy of ships to Betazed, including one carrying Lwaxana Troi. On one of the ships, the Orient Express, there was a murder and one Reginald Porterfield was found dead. Security, science and medical went to investigate. Meanwhile, an engineering team was sent to another ship, the Ann Rand. During some repairs, a heavy object fell, nearly squishing the CE Dagen Thor. Unfortunately, while Thor was able to move out of the way, the Captain of the Ann Rand was not so lucky and was squished from the waist down.

Upon investigating the incident it was found that industrial acid used to weaken cabling on the crane that was used to move cargo around. This was the cargo that fell on the Captain.

The autopsy on Porterfield showed he had mold in his lungs and died a slow death.

Things get more dramatic when people on the different ships start trying to take them over. On the Atlantis, they are subdued and Captain Mahikoa issues a directive to the intruders explaining that the Atlantis has Father in their possession as well as various members of different factions of Augments that seem to be causing the trouble. As it turns out, Father is a device- the artifact Science was studying. It’s actually an AI that was given a body by the crew.

The factions gather on the Atlantis in a rather dramatic meeting:

‘Finally, all four principals were together. The AI known as Father would choose one faction to benefit from whatever wisdom he possessed. The three factions were represented by the woman, Briggy, a thief and murderess, Mora, a terrorist currently holding a cruise ship hostage, and Khan, infamous for practicing genocide on Earth.

Perhaps Father would refuse all three. Atlantis engineers had confirmed their ability to provide him with an android body. Father might well choose the Federation as the winning faction.

Prophecy brought them together.”

In the end, Father chooses no faction

“Gladly. I have seen what the factions have done to keep this prophecy alive, to keep themselves alive for a future they think should be. But the prophecy has been translated and quoted wrong. It is not that I will choose one faction to survive and prosper. It is we all become one in order for survival and prosperity to become a reality. See what this fighting has done? You have merely dwindled each other's groups into nothing, so much so that if the prophecy was as you had interpreted it, one group would not survive for even more then a few more generations." Father said calmly as he looked at the faction leaders.’

Kahn assured Father that they would make them understand… together. After sorting out some of the loose strings of events,

Epilogue: The convoy of the Orient Express, Ann Rand, Iowa, Arkham, Potemkin, Atlantis, and Chalice of Rixx arrived back to Betazed two days later. Ambassador Troi was not happy after she heard of all the destruction that took place and the fact her life had been in danger and no one really informed her. She then forgot about it all after she met Kahn and took a fancy to him.

The three augment leaders and various individuals from each of their groups were held on trial. Briggy was sentenced to life in Prison for her murdering spree, as well as 5 other augments. Kahn was found guilty on hijacking, and was placed on 10 years probation, and monitoring. Mora was cleared of charges, and agreed to lead the group for the next decade, until Kahn was fit enough to take over.
