Mission Summary

Mission Summary: The Odin received instructions to head to a planet outside of Federation borders called Rai'vel. The government asked for aid regarding a pandemic that has swept much of the planet. Dying and afraid, the Rai'vellens' civil structure was collapsing and the government was having difficulty meeting the basic needs of its' people.

Meanwhile, Starfleet assigned a liaison to the Odin in the form of Lt. Relann Fell from the USS Atlantis, accompanied by her partner, the Atlantis' CE, Lt. Jacen Drayke. Of Dy'allan decent, the planet in question was her homeworld, though her people are not the same as the ones living on Rai'vel. Admiral Hennessey has made it clear that she would be of great value to the mission and that while she is under the CO's and XO's orders, she was to have lee-way in the mission wherever needed.

Information for the virus was provided and Medical was first tasked with completing and testing the vaccine so that the crew can be inoculated before the Odin reaches Rai'vel.

During the mission briefing Fell gave, she revealed her dark connection to the planet in question: Firstly, it's name as she knew it was not Rai'vel, but Corsa and ten years ago, the military dictator ordered the extermination of her people. As far as she knew, she was the only one left, having survived by the efforts of sympathetic Corsans who risked much to get her off the planet.

On route to Rai'vel, the Odin came across a Rai'vellen ship on it's way back home from trade negotiations after hearing about the pandemic affecting their home. Captain Calin invited a delegation on board. Among this delegation was a member of the group that helped Relann escape.

During a welcome dinner, it was revealed that one of the delegation, a soldier by the name of Major Zokil had been a member of the militia under Quorto, the dictator who ordered the massacres, and had been at one of the villages.

After a rather interesting, and at moments tense, trip to Rai'vel the Odin and the Rai'vellen ship Kosaya arrived to find communications with the Capital down. An Away Team took a shuttle down to the surface to rendezvous with their Rai'vellen hosts and meet with the Directorship. After some critical information was revealed (ie. a colony of Dy'allan survivors exists), one part of the Away Team left to meet up with the engineers at the the Water Treatment Plant in Niral, Commander Solark went upstairs in the Capitol Building hoping to fix the communications system, and it appeared that there is a cure known for this virus that comes from the Dy'allans, but was not known by Relann, so it was imperative to find this supposed Colony.

Two systems away, the second Away Team had indeed found the Dy'allan Colony and after a bit of convincing, the Dy'allans revealed the cure for the illness that struck years ago that seems to be the same as the current pandemic. It was in the form of their sacred flower, the pelai vine. The Chief Elder and another Elder on their Council accompanied the Captain, Fell and Nurse Stryker back to the Odin.

Back in the capital, Commander Solark was able to help the Rai'vellens repair their communications system which allowed information to pass quickly and the government to take action when needed.

Meanwhile, on the planet, the CNS made a startling discovery after wandering away from the treatment plant. She discovered that the water in the underground spring near the plant was also contaminated with the virus. Communicating this info, it was surmised that the reconstruction of the plant to revamp it with their new technology must have disturbed some dormant location of the virus and spread it through the water system. The plant had been damaged when an outbuilding exploded and coupled with some power issues, the technicians at the water treatment plant had no idea that the virus was in the water.

The CNS also discovered a lost Rai'vellen child by the lake and seeing that she was very ill with the virus, sought out her home. Discovering that she came from the nearby town of Niral which had been first hit by the virus. Due to quarantine and civil structure breakdown, they had run out of most food and medical supplies. The girl's mother was found dead in their home.

Repairs were completed to the treatment plant and active filtration once again occurred. Supplies were sent to Niral to help the ailing town and the bulk of the Away Team returned to the capital, Dostwyn. The Captain's team arrived just as the Rai'vellens were getting anxious about being treated. In a twist of events, the most easily accessible source of pelai came from the Major Zokil's plant that he kept on his balcony, revealing that he was one-quarter Dy'allan by his maternal grandmother. The cure was derived from this plant and with the help of the Odin crew, the planet slowly got back up and running.
