Mission Summary

After leaving Rai'vel, the Odin was given permission to explore a little on their way back home to the Federation. The ship detoured to investigate a nebula with an exotic pulsar at it's center. Near the edge of the nebula was a planetary system that was caught up in the pulsar's gravity well. As it turns out, the system not only had an inhabited planet, but there was a small fleet of warp capable vessels. A single ship broke off from the fleet to intercept the Odin- shields up and weapons armed. After warily confronting the Odin about the reason for their presence, the people are introduced as the Varen of the Varen Sovereign State. After realizing that the Odin meant no harm, the Varen ship stood down the weapons and their King extended an invitation for a personal meeting.

Arriving at the Varen homeworld of Revola III, the Odin followed the scout ship into a high geosynchronous orbit over the planet's capital city of Gadala. An away team, that included Captain Calin, beamed down into the palace and were briefed on protocol by the Royal Advisor, Prelate Dakan Mero before they were brought into the throne room to meet the royal family. Meanwhile, back on the Odin, the bridge set about to investigate some interesting discoveries about the sector they were in; namely that the system of planets is slowly being drawn in towards the pulsar by the intense gravity. Also, engineering is discovering technical issues caused by the interference.

During the discussion with the King and Queen, a tour was suggested and the away team was taken by the Crown Princess Jasanna to look around the royal palace before they all sat down for the mid-day meal. While in a drawing room, a trusted member of the palace staff and the two guards took the group hostage! One guard led Solark and the COS elsewhere, while the Chamberlain and the other guard took the CO, CNS and the Princess deep into the depths of the basements.

Meanwhile, on the Odin, the CSO discovered that the planetary system not only did not originate in the sector, but that it's on a dangerous orbit around the pulsar resulting in only 200 years before it gets to close and the radiation makes the planet uninhabitable. While the CSO was sharing this revelation, a Varen escort ship that had broke away from the fleet and assumed orbit to do regular scans suddenly attacked, taking out the Odin's shields and external communications and a party boarded the ship. Four Varen, including the group's apparent leader were on the bridge and twelve in engineering. Time was of the essence apparently, as one of the Varen Fleet ships was on it's way to investigate the weapon's fire, though the attacking ship has left orbit and disappeared. The Varen that had seized control of the bridge fired the Odin's weapons on the approaching ship, disabling it and fleeing deeper into the nebula away from Revola III

The boarding party on the bridge led by a woman named Milaya Nersos introduced themselves as a group called Guerres Cotesu, a group fighting to bring an end to the caste system that has been in place for centuries. In Engineering the group there stunned all the Starfleet officers (on heavy stun) and set about modifying the systems and setting up a dampening field to prevent anyone from beaming them out. Ensign Ranix decided to take action and released a sedating gas into engineering. The Varen were knocked unconscious right in the middle of some crucial modification, resulting in an impending warp core breach.

The weakening antimatter containment field was been reinforced and the Odin's warp core was no longer in danger of breaching. The Starfleet crew in engineering began to awaken, though the Varen seemed to have been hit harder by the sedating gas that Ensign Ranix introduced. He also had the three Varen beamed off the bridge and into a containment field in Transporter Room 1. His actions were against the orders of the XO to cooperate and not cause problems with the Varen, so we'll see what repercussions come from that. Meanwhile, during his visit to the Varen rebels' lead ship, the XO met with their leader, Mreno Gavko, whom has agreed to let the Odin mediate a conference between Cotesu and the King.

On the planet, things became critical, as the COO and COS managed to get the King and Queen out of the palace and nearly off the grounds before their escape was discovered. The Queen was on the other side of the palace walls, while her husband, the reigning monarch, igave himself up to the rebels in order to ensure his wife's safety, with the COS deciding to remain with him. In the palace subbasement, the CO and CNS along with the heir to the throne, Princess Jasanna, managed to escape their cell and find a way out of the palace through an old delivery opening. But their escape was hampered as weapons fire shot out around them. The very heavily pregnant CNS was stunned, as was the Princess. The rebels captured Morganna forcing the CO to get the Princess to safety.

The sim entering it's final act as the Odin once again arrived at the Varen homeworld. The scattered members of the away team were located and beamed up, along with the Royal family and preparations for the peace summit were arranged. The conference was tense and dramatic at points and was concluded with some surprising twists. The King announced that he would abdicate the throne in favour of his daughter, who is more forward thinking than he. Princess Jasanna revealed that they had been in fact looking possibly removing the caste system that has been in place for centuries. In a bit of inspiration, she proposed a compromise where anyone who wished to leave their current occupation (decided at birth by their caste) must wait one year and train a successor in that time, to ensure the knowledge in all areas of their society continues. The Varen returned to the planet and a day later the Queen-to-be came back on board the Odin to say goodbye and thank the crew for their aid. Once she left, the Odin left the system and set course to return to the Federation.
