Mission Summary

Mission Summary: After the crew dealt with the memorial service for their fallen, they boarded a now repaired Montgomery and settles in, guests in tow. The Kalyta interrogator turned helper, Nem Pa'laryl, was offered a choice of staying on the Montgomery to help in whatever way she could, or to be turned over to Starfleet Intelligence. She, reluctantly, chose the former. Also on board was the Q'uisto (a native of the moon the prison camp was on) named Alyri whom Captain Klinger promised to get home. Lastly, the engineer/pilot named Basoan, who was a prisoner that helped the crew escape, also came aboard as he tried to figure out what to do with his life now.

The Montgomery was given a follow-up assignment from the original war games in the Iontas System. Along with the USS Augustine under the familiar Fleet Captain Maria Waverly, the Montgomery would return to Iontas to look for clues as to why the Kalyta were there in the first place and what was so important that they'd risk destroying a Starfleet vessel for.

Arriving at Iontas, the Augustine moved over to check our the third planet, while the Montgomery investigated Iontas IV. Noting the significant deposits of kelbonite and magnesite, the crew realized the connection to the kelbonite and knew from Nem that the Kalyta used the material in many of their technology, including ship construction. An away team led by Captain Klinger (that included Nem) discovered the remains of a Kalyta mining facility in a mountain with strong deposits (of which blocked ship's communications and transporters, as well as detailed scans). After noting that the Kalyta had taken most things of true value but still left a lot of equipment, they spent awhile accessing the computer systems there in hopes of gleaning details. It was clear the Kalyta had left in a hurry, because the computer was intact, if mostly wiped. A mysterious message appeared on the screen before they left, and Nem was clearly discomfited by it but didn't elaborate at the time.

Meanwhile on the Montgomery, some odd systems malfunctions began and GORBI very strangely and alarmingly began showing signs of tampering noted through its speech patterns being altered. Investigating this led the crew to discover that an engineering ensign's (NE Sonja Derringer) access codes had been used to access the computer core systems. Upon tracking down Derringer, they found her dead in a jefferies tube. At that point the warp care was going critical and no one was able to reverse it. The call to abandon ship was made!

The Augustine received the distress call and began to make its way over. Meanwhile, the away team beamed up to the ship to find the crew abandoning it and also made their way to escape modes.

The crew managed to get off and far enough away from the ship in time to see it explode. The Augustine noticed that there had been one life sign in Engineering at the time of the explosion, but could not identify the person. The Augustine rescued the evacuated crew and made its way back to Starbase 202.
