Mission Summary

After assessing the situation with the Letoens, the crew of the Athena and Hopkins get down to work to reverse some of the damage done to Eleos by the destruction of the last Omega particle.

The joint Athena-Hopkins med team arrives at the main medical centre to find injured and ill Letoens everywhere. It was quickly established that with the lack of power, they have lost their ability to replicate medicines and have gone on a rationing system. There are only a few operating rooms left running as well, and it turns out that the Letoens used a predominantly automated surgical system that is run by the sophisticated computer system. The group splits into two teams: one to jump in and help with surgery and teach the Letoens more manual surgical methods, and the other to assess the medical supply issues and replicated badly needed medicines.

The science team was tasked with finding suitable drinking water and helping deal with the major food issues. The Letoens relied heavily on replication for consumables, so establishing a natural water and food supply was key. They managed to find an extensive underground water system that surfaced near the colony, with a branch that flowed underneath the settlement. They opted for a well in the settlement that was accessible by the Letoens until a more proper supply system could be arranged. Also, the natural aquifer provided potential irrigation for crops so that the Letoens could learn to feed themselves. Commander Price located several edible plants and berries growing in the woods, providing additional food options.

On the ship, the Engineering team worked through the power problem, or rather the lack of it. Assessing their options, they had a choice between creating a solar array off the orbital station, or utilizing the extensive geothermal energy from the planet. They opted for the solar array for the time being as it was the quickest to establish and there was already a power transfer system in place on the orbital platform.

The security and tactical team was tasked with assessing the danger from a local animal that has been attacking the settlements recently. These creatures, dokas, are large and have injured and killed several people so far. In the end, they came up with a high-frequency barrier system to dissuade the dokas from drawing near, as well as training for the peacekeepers to deal with the new threat.

Meanwhile the counsellors and the Athena's Chief Diplomatic Officer took to the settlement to try to get to know the people better and offer insight into the Letoens in the hopes that this information could be used to help their situation somehow. The team encountered a trio of Letoen woman (a mother, adult daughter and grandmother) and after being invited back to their home they learned that these people use a sophisticated system of holography for entertainment purposes and that a whole area of the city is set up for it. Its used an expression of creation too, so with the districts being down due to the power shortages, the Letoens currently have lost their only art form and primary social activity.

The daughter, Sand'Rinn, was awaiting word about her husband, a peacekeeper who was injured severely by a doka. Upon hearing that he was not expected to make it, Counsellor Baillie offered her help via her unique energy channeling abilities. Sand'Rinn accepted and they went off to the medical centre.

Having been successful in surgery, the med team welcomed Laraan's help as Sand'Rinn's husband's condition was more serious that it seemed at first. Her help saved his life and gave one of the doctors the necessary time to repair his injuries before he bled to death.

While their tasks all seemed to be successful, another set of events were occurring at the same time. Counsellor Reese left her group to pursue a clue in her long running undercover investigation. The situation culminated with a showdown in an alley near the medical centre with Reese and Commander Price. Kallen tried to arrest Price, but he resisted and a physical fight broke out. As a consequence of this conflict, Reese died. Price was arrested but as there were no witnesses, all the crew has for an explanation is the physical evidence from the alley and autopsy, and Price's version of events (or what little he's willing to say).

The engineering team finished the array and the Athena left Eleos to rendezvous with the rest of the fleet outside the nebula. The USS Heimdallr also arrived for crew transfers, and the fate of Commander Israel Price is as of yet undecided. A funeral for Kallen Reese was held as well.
