The USS Genesis is traveling back for refit when a temporal disturbance is detected. Without much more warning a huge ship emerges from the vortex – burning, having taken a beating. It seemed to have had a kind of temporal drive that was overloading. Right behind it through the vortex emerges two Borg spheres. The entailing battle results in the sphere being destroyed but the Genesis taking some damage. The second Borg ship flees into a nearby sun. The alien ship’s engines go into overload and soon explode sending out a temporal wake that caused the hull of the Genesis to be infused with chroniton particles, slowly dissipating. It also masked the first "wave" that the Bandits caused which changed the reality. There are two survivors to the vessel – the first officer and a gunner(?). One is quite injured and places himself in a healing trance. The second Borg ship, also unaffected by the wave and time shifts, will dog the Genesis.
Starfleet or Monarchy? First indication of the problem at hand is that of the normal "Starfleet" frequencies not there. A sub band is present which contacts them. A Major (name) comes on in a red lit room with much activity in the background, coming from a flotilla of ships within sensor range. Rather like a war room. The Major wants to know what they (Genesis) did to cause the source of the temporal anomaly – taking it as an aggressive move by the "Consortium". Note technology difference – fighter and different ship group and design, holo vs visual, etc. This is complicated by a realization there was the Prince of Wales aboard this Royal flotilla, the Borg attempting an incursion to assimilate the alien in sickbay and the Consortium attacking, with the Borg sphere also happening to come into play too to make a mess of things. No Romulans as Vulcan never split but the Remans were part of the Consortium.
The next "jump" that happens brings the Genesis into a region of shattered space that is beset by solar storms and tornado like eddies. Planets are isolated due to the space. Warp travel is very limited in technology. A war had bombed everyone in effect back to the "stone warp age". Earth has simple colonies on the Sol planets and a colony on Alpha Centauri and fighting a poisoned atmosphere. Vulcan was damaged and reclusive. In the "corridors" of space there were natural difficulties, potentially striking a quantum filament, pirates preying on travelers and so on. This is a time of exploration "and" of a race to the planet of the Guardian of Forever.
On arriving there they get there just in time to see a person appear from the Guardian with something in hand. And everything changes around them – the planet becomes inhabited and alive.
