These are retired specifications from Star-Fleet’s past. The origin of the Ship Museum started in early 2001, as specifications were being retired or updated due to the transition to the Standardized Ship Specification Format (SSSF). Engineering Director Bret Godfrey and Dockmaster Larry Garfield started the Ships Graveyard (a.k.a. “The Mothballed Fleet”), a collection of ship designs which didn’t meet the new design standards. As it served as a historical archive for people to look through, Dockmaster Ton Geurts decided to turn it into a museum. STF Librarian Nicholas Villarreal has ported over both the original museum, as well as discontinued specifications from the STF Technical Manual, to the Exodus Library.
While these specifications are no longer in active use anywhere in the club, they may prove to be helpful as points of reference. Depending upon the vessel’s time frame, they can serve as NPC vessels for background flavor in sims. It is recommended that GMs and ship crews only use specifications which comply with the SSSF for NPC purposes, although it is preferrable to use specifications still in active club use for NPC roles, if possible.
Designers may request that their deprecated designs not be included if they wish, but they must do so by posting publicly in the Engineering Department. The Engineering Director will honor designers’ wishes. Bear in mind that these ships are not currently maintained or supported and are not available for commissioning new ships. Formatting corrections for specifications in the Museum are only for the purposes of compatibility with Markdown syntax.
If a designer wishes to revive a design currently at exhibition, that designer must repropose the revision as a new specification. The specification will be subject to complete review, according to current ENERGIE policies.
