The Pioneer Fleet Report - April 2020

The fleet as a whole is doing well, considering the outside club distractions and needs of a changing world. All CO’s have been informed that the relaxed posting limits will go back to being enforced beginning June 1st.

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: April was an above average posting month on the ship, though plenty of leeway is being given to all crew members due to the extraordinary circumstances we are in. It had meant that that various people were posting slower or not at all for periods of time. That being said, we have made progress (if slow) on the main sim and I think everyone is interested to see how Ian wraps this all up.

Despite the slow down at times, we also have added new/returning crew. Meli returned, and we added Anthony and Silke as well. Miriam added an unrostered JO and as of the report we just added Crissy who just returned to the club a few days ago. The new crew are currently IC waiting at Starbase 157 and looking to find out what happened to their new ship which had disappeared.

I’m super proud of this crew for keeping going. My own health issues have created a rather up and down situation for me and they seem to be able to carry on quite well, which is in part thanks to Miriam’s solid presence.

Spotlight: Silke, Anthony, Meli and Miriam for their often funny and dramatic interactions in the Starbase threads.

Catt, Ian and Tony for their intriguing side sim. Heavy doses of suspense and drama, just as we expect on the Athena!

Vacancies: The ship is pretty full right now, but we do have room for one more Eng JO and a Sec JO.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: The immediate crisis is over with Meryidiyth returned and Athena’s warp core saved and restored. Now all that remains is to return the shards of the Mirror Orb of the Prophets to their proper place on Risa.

However, the question remains, how will the shattered Orb be restored, and will the Taurus envoys from Tholia, Gorn, and Breen do something precipitous on Risa now that they know that the secret base on Rura Penthe has been destroyed by the Mirror Enterprise?

FComm’s Comments: April was good period for the Athena; posting was above average, and the sim looks to have progressed to a great point. Credit to the crew and GM for maintaining high activity levels even with a great deal of outside distractions. I am interested in seeing if the posting remains at this level when things outside start opening up.

BREAKING STORY FROM THE FEDERATION NEW NETWORK
================================================

“Hello I am Anastasia Everlast here were everlasting stories for our lifetime,” a voice said in a perky voice stepping forward with a microphone in her hand and a smile for the camera. She was the typical roving reporter with long blonde hair, the perfect bone structure, and thickly lashed eyes. She walked with the confident swagger of a woman who knew how to get the ratings or how to make them skyrocket. “I am here on the bridge of the newly rechristening USS Atlantis D here to share with you all the happenings onboard.” Anastasia casually tossed her thick blonde locks over one shoulder preparing to begin. “Three hours ago Admiral Perkins stepped on to Captain Kelly’s bridge and no marine squads have been called. Speaking to one of Perkins aides he did mention that there were some rigorous security measures they were subjected to. We will try to get a comment from Lt. Commander Mardusk on this later and a comment from Admiral Mardusk, his mother who was in a private conference with Captain Bordeaux playing a game of twenty questions.” Taking a deep breath she moved onto another topic

“There are rumors that the science position has been,” her voice trailed off as she pressed the earphone to her ear nodding. “Okay folks, it is no longer a rumor but a confirmation that the brilliant Lieutenant Junior Grade Kai Oliver Kingstone is now the science chief officerof the USS Atlantis,” Anastasia smiled excited that she got to impart some information on the crew. “If you remember Lt j.g. Kingstone was part of the daring mission to the planet cheeseball where Lt. Robbins and Robbins encounters some wildlife as they were heading to a weird man-made object. We are hoping to talk to him to learn more very soon.”

Taking a few steps forward, she began to speak in a more serious tone. “I have just gotten ahold of some secret memos about her last mission. Based on information from logs dates April 1, 2020, to April 30, 2020, it has come to our attention that on the Atlantis’ took on a pirate ship while an away team helped the crew of an injured frigate. This away team was lead by none other than the amazing CMO Ashlynn Summers. We will try to get more on that mission later. “

“In other news, Mabel Perkins has tweeted that Lt. Commander Ethan Nash is the greatest pilot she had ever flown with when he volunteered to help her arrive at a family party last month. When asked about her dealings with the heroic officer she said and I quote, “Mr. Nash is very charming but needs to put the cigar down.”

“On the social from we have John-King McKenzie as the new bartender who it has been rumored can make you a Vulcan Mai Tai to die for. Check him out in ten forward for some laughs and great drinks. It was also discovered that Lt. River Styxx is amazing on the piano and might play at the reception. There is also a rumor that Aedan Teller has awarded the crew a new state of the art entertainment center yet when I spoke with the engineering chief Jason Drayke, he only responded, “get all your junk out of my ship.” I am not sure if there is trouble aboard but if anyone will find out it will be me,” Anastasia winked at the camera.

“This was Anastasia Everlast bringing you Everlasting Stories for our lifetime signing off,” she purred out in the tone of all reporters pleased with having the spotlight.

Spotlight: To my crew. I know it has been a while since things were normal for any of us but I want to say thank you for supporting each other. I really love you guys. You are the best crew ever. Thank you for all your hard work this month.

Sim Overview: The ship is rolling along. I think because the mission is a long rolling one, there momentum has ebbed. The goal right now is to catch the pirates, make friends and start the mystery… if they choose to participate in it.

FComm’s Comments: The Atlantis has struggled with activity, but I believe that issue will helped to resolution by the change in the XO position. Cog was an excellent XO when he was available, but the (completely understandable) need to focus on his outside club obligations was a hindrance to his activity levels. I think it speaks volumes of his character that he chose to take the opportunity provided by the CO to step back and undertake a less high-demand position on board. The new XO will be a solid replacement, and I think a great addition to the Atlantis. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the ship.

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Jerome Davis

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Considering the global pandemic, I feel the ship is doing fairly well. The XO has been doing a good job at keeping people active as I wrapped up my Masters degree. With that out of the way, having graduated this weekend, I plan to return to normal posting levels this week. Not a moment too soon either, as we received word this week that our GM his been forced to resign and we have now begun the process of recruiting another GM. I will be starting a likely 6-8 week “Shore Leave” ship-wide sidesim this evening which will find the Dresden returning to Earth for the first time in three years for refit and a much deserved Shore Leave. It is my hope that by July 1st we will have a new GM in place and can start a fresh sim after the July 4th holiday.

Spotlight: Ben Z gets the nod for Crew Spotlight for the past month for his amazing work as the Dres’ new CNS, God knows he has his hands full with this bunch!

Vacancies: GM
CSO
JO’s in all Depts

Executive Officer: Joana Ribeiro

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: With the current state of the world, posting activity on the Dresden suffered a few fluctuations during the month of April, but over all it was an active month. With the unfortunate resignation of our GM, we will be running side sims until we can find a replacement. Despite that, given that the majority of ship activity during the month of April was on character development side sims, I expect the posting rate to be similar for the month of May, if not slightly higher.

Spotlight: This month I would like to spotlight Ben Z for his portrayal of Lieutenant Commander Renveer, the Dresden’s new Counselor. After a few months with the position vacant, Ben dived right into the problems of the crew (which is an achievement on its own since the Dresden has a quite problematic crew!). With amazing writing skills and an incredible character, we couldn’t have asked for someone better for the job!

Vacancies: CSO, JO’s in all departments (especially medical)

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The CO has completed his degree, and should be congratulated for completing that monumental task. With that done, I am looking forward to seeing the Dresden working itself back up to healthy levels of activity and engagement from all of the ship’s crew contingent.

The loss of the Gm is a setback, but I believe that the CO and XO are wholly capable of keeping the crew engaged until a replacement can be found; provided they remain active and set the example for the rest of the crew.

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The owie has had some pick up in the last month and we are working on getting everyone involved as we wait for our new sim to start. The next sim will take place on starbase so that will be a fun change of pace. I am loving some of the new characters as they do their arrival storylines.

Spotlight: Joe and Linds i have loved their backstory sim. Emma and Silke’s characters have been amazing to read as they do their check ins and Get involved. Sarah as always is amazing as our chief of psychiatry and has been great getting crew involved in side sims while she encourages character development and tortures my husband ic which i love! ^_^

Also i need To spotlight both Nick and Shalon purely because i love their character biographies and i am excited to see these characters develop over the sim.

Geoff finally for stepping up and planning a new sim that i am sure is going to be awesome.

Executive Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Despite sporadic posting across the ship due to these extraordinary times, it was still a pretty busy month. We finished the sim early in the month and since then I’ve been making the transition to XO. Geoff is just kicking off the new sim and the crew is side simming as they do so well.

I personally was inundated by migraines all month, so I’m still back reading all the side threads. Hopefully I’ll have more to comment on and some spotlights next time.

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: As of 30-APR the SIM had not yet started. The transition from Lindsey to myself was wrapping up with the new sim starting on 6-MAY

Spotlight: A thanks to Cale for putting her trust in me to run sims for her baby. We will see how badly I screw this up!

FComm’s Comments: The Ogawa has been a bit sporadic coming into this report period, but picked up noticeably this month. The crew seems anxious and excited for the new SIM, and I think it will generate another noticeable up tick in activity. While posting limits have been relaxed due to the outside issues, all CO’s have been informed that posting limits will be enforced starting June 1st.

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 2
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Holding steady with 65 posts in April. I haven’t been able to be present much, but we do have all key positions filled now.

Spotlight: It’s the crew keeping the Outpost still going and holding steady. Nicely done.

Vacancies: None.

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: What can I say but amazing! The crew is working really hard on great stories during a time where everyone is torn between a crazy personal life and trying to keep up with posting. The outpost is writing an amazing main sim. Right now in Evie’s cafe Jessica just told Tenkiller to gas them to stop or at least stall the firefight taking place between the bad guys that just showed up; however, who is the actual bad guy. If you ask Teller and Nikko they are probably going to unanimously agree for the first time ever that Jessica is the crazy one when they wake up from being anesthetized by their own security forces. What is a girl to do however when she is caught between a knight in shining armor and a group of firing aliens that just beamed on board in the promenade? Toveka and Baldur Bragason are trying to convince the chip in the Klingons brain they removed to activate now that it has been extracted. Maybe it will give us some more info on what is going on with the Outpost. Nathan and Chloe have met up finally on Cestus III and it was explosive. No, really there were buildings being blown up, a bomb shelter, and half a wall missing in Nathan’s apartment. We have no idea what is happening in that backstory so stay tuned. Finally, two Klingons and mobster walk into a bar....no that this not the punchline to a joke but an amazing side sim involving our own Dave Shotton, Gene Gibbs, and the amazing Mel Aragon. Check it out because when those three get together and write you will never be disappointed when reading it.

Spotlight: Melissa Aragon. We are so happy to have you back. You were missed as was your character Toveka.

FComm’s Comments: The station is maintaining its activity level. The CO has been noticeably unavailable on the boards, but is still diligent in keeping people taken care of behind the scenes. I believe that this will improve over the next report period. The crew is engaged… even the ones currently unconscious after the station security forces released tranquilizing gas to assist in the apprehension of unknown assailants.
