The Meridian Fleet Report - August 2020

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The sim is ending and it seems to have run its natural course. Once again Kenson gave everyone something to keep busy with. I feel very comfortable where we are right now crew wise. I think we are set with the new crew going to the next sim unless we get a surprise. It will be nice to get back into the center chair in IC.

Spotlight: R Smith for the great work done as the aCO for these past months.

Vacancies:

Executive Officer: R Smith

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: As the month (and episode) comes to a close senior staff posting is high. We received new members this month but haven’t found anything for them to do yet.

Spotlight: Spotlight on Tyra Schroll for playing two characters to the hilt when she is a member of every crew in the STF fleet and almost no cues have been tossed her way. Spotlight on Luke Hung and Kenson Koh for keeping the sim going. Spotlight on Sidney Parker for playing a ship’s doctor while passing the torch on to a new chief medical officer while continuing his commanding officer duties.

Vacancies: Now that Sam Pennington is playing the Chief Oicer of Security , we need a Chief Engineer.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: The Olinksi has been tasked to find a lost Starfleet transport ship: the USS Sierra. The Olinski succeeded in contacting the Sierra and helped the ship to be space worthy again. During this time, a Mrs. Pitch had requested the transfer of her and her infant to the Olinski. After parting with the Sierra, a group of crewmen at different parts of the ship suddenly collapsed. Their eyes were open but they were not responsive to any attempted communication. The Olinski contacted the Sierra to see if there was a similar malaise on their ship. The Sierra had not encountered such a situation. However, they Starbase have asked them to stop a distance just to wait until visited by a quarantine team.

In the meantime, the collapsed crew were found to be conscious but unable to control their movements. They were transferred to sickbay. One of them Redding has left sickbay and proceeded to Engineering. The other crewmen are also beginning to move without control of their bodies, except their eyelids. These crewmen were controlled somehow to prepare for the departure of a runabout. It was discovered that Mrs. Pitch and her infant son were responsible for the situation. After separating the mother and child, they were able to stop them from stealing a runabout. The crewmen were sedated to keep them asleep as medical looked for a cure. However, it was discovered that the effects of the ‘mind control’ would dissipate in time, between 24 and 48 hours.

Further investigations have revealed the Mrs. Pitch was actually the wife of the late Professor Philip Lang. The infant she had with her was their child. Starfleet had contacted the Olinski to reveal that there was an inquiry into the death of Professor Lang and that his wife was sought during the investigations.

AFComm’s Comments: The Olinski is moving along at a good clip. A few AWOLs on the board, but with the exception of one, nothing I’d be concerned about.

As per usual, Kenson keeps readers and player alike on the edge of their seat during his sims, and leaves everyone in awe of some of the results

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Timothy Frogue

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: IC:

The Ship could use more JOs and I understand that we are an alternative RP so there is no direct assignments. However, maybe it is time to change that policy. To be honest, I have never understood why one could not offer that option to the cadets leaving the academy. Again, just my opinion.

Spotlight: The GM because he has done a great job.

For this sim, I have been left in command while the Captain is healing in sickbay. I like the fact that when I have been stumped the GM has jumped in to make sure I am doing my job. That maybe what he is supposed to do, but I have seen other GMs do it less.

Vacancies: Again, JOs. This should could use more of them.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: I am disappointed in there were no communication from the CO regarding the reason why this ship wasn’t open to placements. Timothy, as XO did indicate that he was at least open to the conversation so we may have that discussion with the PDept this month. Ship appears otherwise healthy, other than the CO is AWOL, but seems to be fairly consistent otherwise.

MOTD Is out of date, hopefully that will be resolved by the next fleet report.

Otherwise I am pleased with the Chernov. The sim seems to be progressing well, post rates are within tolerances.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Steven Sigle

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The Odin is posting within limits for a ship of its speed and size. The main sim is moving along nicely with Kenson giving the crew great material to post with.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: After rescuing a freighter, the Odin pursued what seemed like an unregistered Romulan ship. The Odin reaches a strange cluster of ships in a system that is outside Federation space. In fact that space is not claimed by any major power. On contacting the ‘colony’ the Odin discovers that they are like an independent group of people from various systems. They do not answer to any power. When the CNS tries to read the people who answer their hails, she discovers that she cannot read them, in a similar situation like the Ferengi. A meeting is set up where two representatives from the ‘colony’ would board the Odin to negotiate. One is a Ferengi male and the other is a female which looks human but is unreadable like a Ferengi. The CO meets with them and negotiates entry into the system to look for the perpetrators.

Two away teams have been sent down to the colony, which is actually a small planetoid. One team enters the market while the other explores the farmland that are outside the market. In their investigations of the colony, the away team encountered different people. However, in the market place, a suspicious person has been spotted and the teams are converging to apprehend this person.

FComm’s Comments: Kenson is a prolific GM and the Odin is no exception. I am happy to see where this ship is going with her sim.

There are a lot of AWOLs, some of them in the double digits despite it being a slow speed ship. If this trend continues, I am going to work with Steven on either removing these characters or putting the players on probation. The MOTD needs some love, a few places could be touched up to make it more clear why the Odin, but otherwise it is in good condition. Hopefully these improvements will be made soon.

The ship profile is out of date and was recently changed to does not accept new members. I am disappoint to see that Steven did not provide justification as to why this change was made in his report this month despite being asked to. Hopefully this logic will be documented in next month’s report.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Jay Luistro

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: Overall, posting was good this month, however, as September got closer, the pace got slower. Knowing that September isn’t one of the most active months in STF I’m not that worried and I’m looking forward for the next period expecting a slight raise.

We have had a new addition and indeed we have onboard a GM, James Harrison! The only step now is to wrap up the current main sim thread on-going so James can kick in and get us some fresh and amazing adventures!

Resuming, there were a couple AWOLs and LOAs throughout this chill month but they resolved quickly, making an exception for Kate who had been very busy these days. Hope the best for her!

Spotlight: Jennifer Ward gets this month’s first spotlight! I have played with Jennifer across ships for the past weeks and her writing is amazing and yet fresh! She is definitely a worth and good player.
I also lean the prize to Miriam W that although her low posting still keeps high quality posts!
Good job!

Vacancies: We welcome JOs in Med, Engineering and Science departments. Remember to bring a bio for all your characters to be reviewed before joining.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: I am following the sim a little, but it isn’t really a sim, and not very well structured. James should kick off next month, and if not we will need to have a conversation around what the best path forward for the ship.

Everyone is within AWOL limits, and the post count seem normal. MOTD is in good shape but could use a few updates regarding things like the news feed. I am sure these updates will be made before the next report.

I am disappointed, again, that the CO didn’t file a report this month on time and didn’t provide a reason for switching the ship to doesn’t accpet new placements. From what I can tell Dave wants to have the CO/XO vet the character Bio for the ship, which seems fair prima facie though I would like to better understand the logic. Other wise the ship is in good condition and I have no major worries.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Dave Eads

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: We’ve had some awol issues, and lost some crew the last month but we’ve gained a new crew member and we’re moving forward to finish up the first Sim. I look forward to growing and developing as we finish out the Sim, as I look forward to getting Sentinel back on pace.
I have a feeling September will be a better month for us.

Spotlight: I’d like to spotlight Rob Archer here. As a gm he’s dealt with all of our issues swiftly, and has really been supporting us and helping keep us together. He is greatly appreciated!

Vacancies: We have plenty of room for junior officers in all departments, and we look forward to those who want to brave the early Era of starfleet with us!

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 5

Sim Overview: A few off and on loas/awols at times but overall the Sentinel is still chugging along. Sim wise we’re nearing the end bits, with the landing parties converging on the mines to rescue the children while on the ship the remaining bridge crew have picked up a contact with an orion blockade runner.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: There have been some struggles with the AWOLs and LOAs this month, but otherwise I am pleased with the ship. The sim is progressing well and I feel is healthy enough. The CO didn’t include the justification for the no new members flag in the ship profile, but I believe the logic is that placement on Alt ships should be somewhat restrictive. I am ok with this.

September is always slow so I expect posting rates to return to normal this up coming month. The ship profile is out of date and needs to be updated for vacancies, but the MOTD is fine. Other than these few minor issues I am pleased with the health of the Sentinel.

Summary comments: Daddy’s home! It is nice to be back as the FComm for Fleet 5, er, Meridian after several years out of the position. I am glad to see both familiar and fresh faces among the ships. I believe I can speak for Katy when I say we are glad to be here and are available to support the ships as much as possible.

Speaking of Katy, I am using this term to train her as much as possible on how to be a good FComm, so expect her to be providing comments on the ships through out the term instead of myself. Eventually I would like to have her do the report herself once or twice. I have the utmost confidence in her abilities.

Nothing of major concern this month. Not a lot of spot lights or shout outs so I have no major praises but I do think over all we are healthy.
