The Pioneer Fleet Report - October 2020

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Another slower month for us but we finished the sim! We have some tweaks we’re doing to the roster and some AWOLs to deal with, but that will be taken care of in short order. While the ship is IC docked at Starbase 157, we are doing a cross-ver side sim with the Ogawa crew and allowing the two crews to mingle.

My favourite moment was the cheeky banter on the bridge as the Athena returned from the Mirror Universe having saved that universe plus their own. They are all probably a bit traumatized but they survived and that calls for a celebration!

My focus before we get to a new sim will be to corral the crew and get overall posting rates back up to our usual ~250 a month.

Spotlight: A big shout out to Ian for wrapping up his sim. While it took longer than our sims usually do, I applaud his perseverance.

Vacancies: 1x Med JO
1x Sci JO

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: We are presently between sims.

Spotlight: Catt Bennett has a done a great job of keeping side sims alive.

FComm’s Comments: Linds has always done a good job at running her ship and keeping the posting levels up. The cross over sim is a great thing to see and hopefully as SIM starts up again we will notice a natural increase in posts again as The crew get back to their normal exceptional posting.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The Atlantis is posting within limits for a ship of its speed and crew size. Last month the ship produced 125 posts for October even with several crew members having real-life issues that ranged from surgery, illness, moving, technical issues and the ever-present pandemic gobsmacks. Even with all that life could throw at them, the crew has posted amazing things. Now that the paper-pushing is over let’s get down to what people really want to know. What the heck is going on with the ship? Well, let me tell you…but want a coffee first?

With the approach of turkey day Kelly thought “hmmm what can I do to make it special for the crew?” Have a pirate party that’s what. Luke, our amazing GM, has kept in perfect stride with Kelly deciding to break bread with the pirate crew for info about the sectors. While it might not be a strict Starfleet procedure, meetings always go better with food. At the very least people show up when food is mentioned so what can go wrong.

Revna has her hands full with the psyche needs of the crew. From possible suppressed memories to meeting Miss Maybelle Spunkler, her counseling skills are being utilized. She is also serving on the ship with not one but two family members. Oh if we could be a fly on that comm call to hear all the different versions of “Nana why is our family so crazy”.

In the rec center, we are having the first real glimpse of Ensign Three of Five. I always enjoy character development posts and I am very excited to see how this unfolds.

In the shuttle bay, Kelly and Ian are staring in an OMAP holiday bake-off to win the elite luxe recreational package being offered by Aedan Teller. Let’s hope they are not cooking their own goose.

The holidays are approaching and while posting is fun and exciting, remember to take time for yourself in the ways you need to. Stay safe.

Spotlight: This month I would like to spotlight Jen Ward. She has posted wonderful things that have made us all laugh, gasp, and be engaged in so many threads. Great job Jen.

Vacancies: Attention! Attention! Come on down. You are the next contestant on The Atlantis is the Ship is Right for you. Have an idea? Have a concept? Have a story idea? Try Door 1, Door 2, or Door 3 because behind that door is creative writers just like you waiting to embark on a literary adventure.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: We’re a bit of a mixed bag. I know a couple of our people are away with some life things happening that is skewing the appearance of the roster, and others are blatantly missing. The crew that are mostly having issues are the specialized positions - marine, diplomatic etc while the mainstream DH’s are involved and doing well. The greatest sufferage has been amongst the few junior officers. I think the general slump is that we’re in a part of the sim that is mostly discussion and that can cause a more focused arena of people posting while others are in the background. Bad on me for not recognizing this and acting on it but will work on this.

Spotlight: Jennifer Ward as the Counselor is simply an amazing writer. As a counselor she did something which I think is a first of my time which was to write up a brief of the counseling session for our biographies. Huge kudos.
Melissa Aragon is well, everywhere. If I could borrow a cup of her writing energy I’d be doing well.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: The ship continues to remain 50,000 light years from Federation space, brought there by a Graviton Ellipse. The Atlantis has entered a highly contested area of space with dozens of races jockeying for supremacy. The Atlantis must make friends to survive and repair their broken ship, but who, how, and can they do so without violating the prime directive.
Posting seems a little slow and as such the sim is moving slowly. Thanks to Gene for driving the sim along.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: Sim is going ok, as Luke mentioned it is slower, with everything going on at the moment around the world it’s understandable and it’s not worrying. My hope to see the Sim take a good drive before the holiday period will easily be achievable. Voyager being one of my favourite ST series and this sim has a few small little similarities which is exciting. I am hoping that the issues with Swing departments raised by Gene can be addressed with more development or a side sim jumping in, where some departments may not be being used in the sim at the moment.

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The Chimera is doing well, I’ve been a bit delayed in posting due to numerous RL things going down and it seems a few of my DHs have also been bitten by that nasty RL bug, however, we are holding together nicely and starting to dig into the new simm quite well too.

My favorite moment this month on the ship was probably the beginning of the simm. Seems we are investigating not just a murder, but a missing starship as well!

I’m going to be looking to add some JOs to the roster. I have full departments (though I am willing to entertain a swing position where appropriate), so I think the aim will be to get some minions for each of my stellar DHs. :)

Spotlight: Honestly, I’d like to thank everyone on my ship who volunteered when Gene asked for people willing to have one of his GM characters be familiar with their character. Also, all my crew were able to generally keep busy while Gene took a bit of a break between sims!

Vacancies: JOs in all departments.

Executive Officer: AJ Paulson

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We’re still docked at the starbase for repairs waiting on the Sim to start.

Spotlight: Gene: for his incredible effort and patience as our GM

Steve: for keeping the ship somewhat intact

Vacancies: JOs in all departments

Swing bridge officers contact myself or Kat with a character

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: The sim has essentially just begun with introductions and the mission profile being laid out at Starbase 157.

Commodore Moll, Chairman of the Corporation and Fleet Subcommittee on Starbase 157, has tasked the Chimera to an area of space called the Scar, an angular nebula that holds several unaligned worlds and three Federation mining colonies sub contracted through civilian corporations. The Magnus Corporation holds the rights on Mining Station Plouton 9. Mason Larden, a lawyer for the Corporation is accompanying the Chimera crew to assess additional ‘safety irregularities’. The Sheriff has been murdered and the deputy is the principle suspect. The Corporation has requested assistance in investigating this murder and, if needed, help keep order there until the ‘law’ could be restored. Due to the political ‘instability’ of the region the Chimera has also been tasked to assist in a survey the region better, and seek out the USS Shogun which Starfleet has lost contact on. The USS Shogun had been patrolling the area to keep an eye on the region’s Starfleet interests there and provide deterrence from the unaligned worlds who were often in conflict and.

Meanwhile, the new Impulse engines are on their shakedown cruise, the marines and flight crews have been mostly mustered out with fresh troops, and away we go!

Spotlight: Our biggest contributor this month was Steve Johnson, our chief engineer who has dove into the engineering thread with gusto.
With things just starting out, I’d asked for some NE’s who might be related to the crew in some way, be they friends, relations, acquaintances, and they responded admirably, even with a very intriguing entry by Melissa Aragon. Kudos and thanks to those who took me up on that offer.

FComm’s Comments: I am hoping that the new SIM will bring in the crew posting limits and stop the awols from happening, this does sometimes happen between sims and it’s just important to remember to use side sims and the moments to develop characters. The new sim sounds very interesting and I am looking very much to reading some of the posts thorughout

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Joana Ribeiro

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Similarly to September, the Dresden has remained steady through the month of October. There were a few AWOLs and LOAs that have been dealt with, but nothing out of the ordinary. The last weeks of October were also a busier time for me which made me more absent than usual. I am not foreseeing the same happening in November.

The main sim is going smoothly as well as sidesims that have consistently been running alongside it keeping the crew busy. I would like to highlight the thread ‘Me, My symbiont, and I’ started by our own XO, Ben Z, that deals with Trill culture and the joining process, and it’s been a fascinating and engaging read since it started.

Spotlight: This month I would like to spotlight Charles Stevens, William Deaton, and Jennifer Ward for keeping and incredible amount of threads running while maintaining their incredible writing and creativity, as well as Ben Z for managing the ship so well with me more absent than usual and keeping me in check when necessary.

Vacancies: CE, JOs in all departments

Executive Officer: Ben Z

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: This has been a little bit of a rough month for the Dresden. James Sinclair has been putting in a LOT of work with main sim threads for every character aboard to be involved with, but the Dresden has struggled to maintain strong side-sim threads that are not check-ins. I would like to encourage any and all writers on the Dresden to feel free to create any and all side-sims, be they big or small! If it’s something you want to run by me, Joana, or James, we are always happy to hear your ideas! The Dresden is always happy to welcome new JOs or swing position characters, and this is an exciting time to join the crew due to the very active main sim! Anyone who has ideas for a character or side-sim plots that they’d like to play out is also welcome aboard! I will be working this next month to encourage side-sims and player appreciation in general, including adding an updated “spotlights” section to my portion of the MOTD.

Spotlight: Clinton “Stores” Reed and his writer, Charles Stevens. Stores has kept his pep in his step as we get underway with the main sim, and we always appreciate Charles’ enthusiasm and dedication to the Dresden!

Vacancies: JOs in all departments

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: Pretty much green across the board as I write this report, well done to the crew for keeping engaged. a good command team in place. Ben has taken to the role of XO like a duck to water. The sim seems to be going well with good interactions between the crew

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: 1) How is your ship looking overall?
Overall the owie is in good shape. We have a few members of the crew on LOA or slightly over posting due to real life situations but both Linds and I are aware of this and we are on top of this.
The sim is ending and we have really enjoyed it and we have began a slight cross over with the Athena which is gearing up between our main sim.

2)What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?
I loved the ending parts of the main sim. Zoi Haven as the Cheshire cat was utterly wonderful, kudos Amber! and her posts with Linds were a great read.
I have loved all the posts this month this characters are great and I’m looking forward to seeing the development of these characters in future sims.
Honestly there’s too many to choose from, sorry I know that seems like a cop out. I’ll do better next month

3)Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.
Getting engagement going at the same time, we have a steady stream of posts but it’s like small waves of AWOLs and LOAs. Hopefully we can improve on this next month and also get the new spec approved!

Spotlight: Amber, Jennifer, Linds, Nick, Matt, Silke, Mel, everyone!

Vacancies: Engineering JO

Executive Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: For the most part our DHs have been active and proactive. There have been some LOAs that have impacted those DHs but their JOs have continued along just fine. We’re keeping an eye on any issues, but I’m not currently concerned. Everyone seems to still be enjoying the sim and there has been lots of room to participate in the zaniness. There are also lots of side sims happening so I’m quite happy with things in October.

Spotlight: Kudos to Jennifer, Silke, Melissa, Mariah and Brandon for being an effective team in the Infirmary thread, even when one of them were the patient! lol

Vacancies: 1x Eng JO

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: Full Sim Summary: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/ogawa/posts/98511/

Delta: The sickbay has found the cure an is working with Engineering on ways to administer it station wide. Science will soon be discussing the new life they found and the XO has found patient Zero, attempting to surpress the rogue psychosis that is spreading through the ship.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: end of the sim and end of an era for the Ogawa, it’s new ship (i’m still pushing for the USS RobJ) should be getting the final few licks of paint and ready to get going again. The crossover with the Athena is a very interesting thing that have never seen before, With Linds and Cale at the helm there is nothing really to worry about in regards to it though. A few awols popping up, but it seems that the team are on top of these,

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: This month the trend continued with slightly less activity than previous months, but 73 posts is still in the acceptable range for a slow roleplaying area. I know I’ve been quite distracted by current events and I’m aware of one crew member who was slowed down by a recent move. Hopefully this month we’ll see things calm down for everyone and those who are less active right now settle back into posting on the Outpost.

Spotlight: Liam. In the Main Sim in the Science thread the lab has now been somehow sent a hundred years into the future and Nikola Tesla randomly appeared and the crew now has to work with him to stop the attackers banging at the door. I love everything Liam throws at us.

Vacancies: None.

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The ship is doing well for its size and speed. The crew’s posting has waxed and waned slightly through the month however, the crew has continued to produce great posts for the main sim and side sims. The counselor and nurse continue to show glimpses of their past. Nikko is moonlighting as an HR officer with Char’kat the Wanderer to find her a spot on the Outpost. The Cappy and the Operations chief are working out the details to figuring out where all the shards are and why they are so important. The XO and COS have brought over a Romulan delegation and are attempting to blow up the alien ship.

Spotlight: My spotlight goes to Steven Sigle and his writing as Nathan Harland. He has an amazing flashback coming up that will help explain his character and show how he became the man we see on the Outpost today.

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: OP 42 doing ok, no real worries apart from a couple of AWOLS one of which is quite long. It would be nice to see a few more posts this next month but with the holiday season starting soon. As both CO and XO have pointed out this is a slow posting ship so it is supposed to have less posts than our faster ships. The sim seems to be ticking along quite nicely
