The Pioneer Fleet Report - December 2020

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 3
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Things definitely slowed down over December due to the holidays and others had RL things to deal with even outside of that. We still have a large portion of the crew on LOA but I’m hoping they all return soon. Ian is likely to start a new sim this month and that will give new additions to the crew a chance to delve in more. We’ve welcomed Matt Evans as CNS (in Nov) and James Sinclair has returned to the crew but with a COO character. Meanwhile we’re doing post-mission awards in the lounge and the captain is in a bit of a funny mood since their return but enjoying this moment of putting certain members of her crew in the spotlight (whether they like it or not).

A thread that’s given me a much needed chuckle is Ian’s little teaser thread where Sisko (our Prophet liaison from the last sim) has a little chat with Q. Only good things can come from that, right? https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/athena/posts/114019/

Going forward I’m hoping to corral the crew and get everyone interacting again after the holidays.

FComm’s Comments: For the sake of expedience and because the short amount of time hasn’t allowed me to read all of the ships in the fleet besides the Athena and Ogawa, of which I have characters, I will be copying this comment to all ships and SB157. Please forgive my laziness. :)

A very brief perusal showed that a lot of the ships in the fleet had a marked decrease in engagement with a few AWOLs as well. With it being the holidays this is to be expected. I plan to closely monitor the situation during the month of January and will be contacting the COs of the respective ships if this persists over the next couple of weeks. I’ve already laid out my expectations for the command staff of each ship in regards to AWOLs and having reports filed on time, which my deadline for reports is a few days later than previously posted on the fleet MOTD.

With that said those who have not filed a report this month are excused but this is the only month in which I’ll be giving that courtesy. I will be expecting a request for excusal in the future if a ship command personnel fails to file a report.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Atlantis had a slower than typical month in December but it was the holidays. Since the site did not participate in a relaxation of posting schedules, the Atlantis opted for the choice of allowing the crew to set a ship wide relaxation of posting during the holidays. I spoke with many of my crew who completely embraced the idea of taking a step back and enjoying time with family, friends, and the spirit of the season. I know after the much needed break, the crew will be back and posting with the same creativity, energy, and enthusiasm that defines the amazing writers on the ship.

Even with the relaxation of posting limits, the sim still moved along at an expected pace over the holidays with Luke Hung never failing to come up with interesting and creative avenues in the main sim for the crew to explore in posts. The Captain and Ian are in a baking contest to win a new entertainment suite in a holocooking show on hangar three. Ward and Aragon have , started amazing character development pieces just before the holiday break that are sure to keep the crew and other readers riveted for weeks to come. Nathan has a new installment of his character’s backstory that should be up this month.

Spotlight: The spotlight this month is a puzzle. Several pieces are scattered across the fleets of STF. The trail moves from ship to ship in a sequence. The sequence is such: USS Atlantis, USS Manhattan, Outpost 42, USS Odin and USS Saracen. For the full story read the ships in that order. Let the story begin.

USS Atlantis

Kelly sat lounging back in her seat. It had been a long holiday. Not necessarily bad but just busy. Untold parties mixed with the occasional work project had made the past month feel more like four months instead of four weeks. At least now it would all slip back into some semblance of normalcy as the long boring month of January reared its thirty one days. Taking a long draw on her beer, she debated on whether to start on the fleet reports due at the end of the month to command or slid them to the bottom of the pile. Did people ever read them? People wanted them but was it paramount for command to know Kelly went through seventy five turkeys on Christmas Eve instead of sixty two? That four crew took the staff party to Jeffery tube seven and got stuck for six hours? All of this was ship business. The only real business was boring details about trade negotiations and cultural exchanges which to be honest bored Kelly to tears. Leaning her head back, Kelly closed her eyes and enjoyed the quiet.

=/\=Captain Bordeaux,=/\= a voice rang over her comm badge shattering Kelly’s quiet. =/\=We are detecting something in the northwest corner of the quadrant on long range sensors. It is moving fast and sporadic. It is targeting all ships, planets, and outposts in its path.=/\=

Kelly, already on her feet and heading towards the bridge responded feeling a dread in her stomach. No one liked working the holidays and especially on Christmas Eve, she did not was to go to a red alert if possible. =/\=Is it or anyone sending a distress call?=/\=

=/\=No Ma’am but we are going to lose it on sensors in the next five minutes.=/\= the comm’s officer responded. The words no sooner left her lips then a soft pneumatic hiss and the sound of ‘Captain on the bridge’ announced Kelly’s arrival.

“Do we know where it is headed?” Kelly took her seat looking at the PaDD that the tactical officer handed her on the way in. It showed what the comms officer had messaged her.

“The next ship in range to detect it on scanners is the USS Manhattan,” another officer relayed what little data they had acquired.

“Send a hail to the Manhattan,” Kelly responded in a crisp tone as she briefed herself on what she was about to share with the other officers she was contacting.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: With the holidays (and mine!) there was a fairly predictable slow down and there are some, myself included, just trying to catch up from being off. The shuttle is returning from helping a freighter that was attacked by the supposed pirates while the Captain is looking to visit the pirate ship on their invitation and discuss possible repair negotiations. I have my list down on who is where and am primed with my pen to work at assigning people .. once I figure out where, necessarily everyone is now. I’m all through my holidays and galivanting (as far as our lockdown allows) is done for a good while so my last 3 months of scattered presence is over with.

Sim Overview: The Atlantis has hit the typical holiday lull. There are a couple side sims going on, as the main sim slowed. The crew is still working on whether or not they will continue to negotiate with the ‘pirates’ who they are pretty sure are at least funded by one of the major races of the region.

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: I ranked my ship health as a 7 because I expect the posting level will return after the holiday as it dropped right around mid-December.

That being said, I will watch it and take action if it does not.

We are presently working through Gene’s clever murder/missing starship mission. Once he’s returned from LOA, I expect we’ll finish the preliminary posting and move onto the meat of the mission.

Spotlight: Christopher Logan: new crewmember aboard playing as a science officer. Welcome aboard!

Melissa Aragon: for staying active during the relaxed holiday posting break

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Joana Ribeiro

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: As usual, the month of December was a slower month due to the holiday season. On the Dresden we decided to relax AWOL limits during this time as we felt that after the year we all lived through, we all needed some time to recharge batteries and deal with how different the season was this year. This resulted in far slower posting than what we have seen in the past months (I was absent as well during part of the month, which contributed to the overall lower posting), but I am expecting speed to pick up once we are past January 5th, and once the main sim is back on track.

Spotlight: This month’s spotlight goes to the entire crew, that kept the ship going despite this harder holiday season.

Vacancies: JOs in all departments

Executive Officer: Ben Z

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Many members of the Dresden crew took some much needed R&R time over the holidays, resulting in a few AWOLs. However, we had relaxed posting limits through January 5th, so I would expect to see that trend dissolve in the near future. I hope the crew is ready to dive headfirst into the action of our main sim, because I sure am! During the start of January 2021, I aim to do a recruitment drive to get the attention of more members who may want to join the Dresden in JO or swing positions.

Spotlight: Melissa Aragon as CSO Priscilla Simms, who has been active and engaged in our main sim bridge thread, keeping an eager eyes on our scanners! Bravo!

Vacancies: JOs and swing positions! Recruitment is open! Contact Ben Z for details.

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: How is your ship looking overall?
Overall we are slow which I expected when we opted to suspend the posting limits over the holiday period. We are now starting to come back from that and there are one or two out of limits still, myself included ue to various things but I’m confident we will get everyone posting again shortly. We have one massive out of limits roster but that’s an old character who has recently joined us and we are waiting b for the first post from them to reset that counter. There have also been a number of people who have stayed active over the period and their side sims have been fun to read while I’ve been catching up.

Our main sim has come to an end. Huge thanks to Geoff for it as our fabulous GM and everyone who was involved. Hopefully we can side sim away for a little bit and get our nice new shiny ship going this month coming.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Honestly I have loved the side sim story between our XO and CoS https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/ogawa/posts/115080/is the latest update. However there are a number of threadsbstartk g side sims or slowed that I’m going to be hard to pick from for next month.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

I want to improve the engagement of all the crew and try my best to set up some side sims and character development storylines if we can while we are between sims. One to allow everyone to gel a little more and also to find our feet again in the new year

Spotlight: I need to spotlight the whole crew but this month I am choosing Geoff. Our wonderful GM who made madness fun and I’m honoured to have with us

Vacancies: We are full. The roster us closed However we may make exceptions for swing posts anyone with an idea should contact myself if Linds so that it can be discussed

Ship Status: With many of the crew on LOA over the holidays, people are a bit scattered so things are slow. Geoff did wrap up the main sim as we had lost steam and it was a good decision. Cale started a side sim and there are some other side sims going on but with many people still away the people who are about aren’t having much engagement. We’re still technically doing the cross-over with the Athena but that seems to have fizzled out too and that’s okay.

If I had to pick a start this month it would be Geoff. He’s been busy but he also persevered with the sim when people started going on LOA. His efforts really are appreciated and it was such a great sim!

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 2
Senior Staff Posting Level: 2
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Very low post count in December and some of those were bumps. But it’s December and pretty much everyone needed a break. We’ll be looking to pick back up in January and return to our regular participation levels.

Spotlight: Gene has now stepped down and will be missed greatly. His character was from a gangster planet, which was very unique and his posts were always a joy to read.

Vacancies: COO

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Outpost is doing well despite the holiday break. Posting is slower but not better or worse than most of STF with players taking down time over the holidays. I am positive that posting will return to normal levels in January once everyone is back and settled from the holiday season. THe main sim continues to move forward with most players active in the sim. Several side sims involving mainly back stories are continuing to unfold.

Spotlight: Outpost

Jessica walked up to the view screen and got a smile seeing a familiar face looking back at her. “Captain Cochrane. What do I owe the pleasure?”

She listened to Cochrane explain the situation. A fast moving object was moving towards her section of space. It was on an intercept course for the OP but so far the thing was moving so fast all the prior captains could ascertain was that the object consisted of ten life forms in a ship we can not identify. Jessica nodded in understanding as she clicked off the transmission and looked at the object just appearing on long range sensors.

“Ma’am the object is on the scanner but we are detecting something new. A signal coming from the object.” The tone of the officer’s voice had Jessica on edge. Rarely did something stump her crew and waiting for the assessment of the information was starting to grate on her nerves.

“And,” Jessica leaned slightly forward in her seat as if this would possibly speed up the transfer of information.

“And it sounds like….bells.” The officer spun in his seat to look back at the XO. He had no other idea how to describe the frequency he was detecting except to say it sounded like jingle bells.

“Ma’am the object is moving incredibly fast. From our calculations it will be leaving our sector of space and heading towards….here,” the officer brought up a map and displayed the object’s trajectory. “The USS Odin will be the next ship in its path.”

“Send a hail to Commodore Calin,” Jessica responded, never taking her eyes off the screen.

Seated in the command chair, Jessica leaned back tapping her finger on the arm rest waiting for the tactical officer to compile the information Cochrane sent along with any information they had gleaned from their long range sensors. She had no idea how she was going to relay the information to the USS Odin, which was now directly in the path of the ship, without sounding like she had been drinking. Luckily she had met the chief of security a couple of times so the woman could vouch for her sanity.
