The Pioneer Fleet Report - September 2018

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Lindsay Bayes

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Posting dropped during August, in part because I was LOA for almost two weeks and that definitely slowed things down. Plus there have been other LOAs and some AWOLs and overall things moved slower. Despite that through, Ian’s sim has been moving along and we’re all knee-deep in the action. I am super impressed not only with the depth of the sim but how most people are jumping in to deal with the various elements. There’s also other side sims going on that are continuing the Athena’s penchant for drama, mystery and intrigue, with a good dose of humour too.

Spotlight: I have to give kudos to Luke for tackling the security threat with gusto, Dan and Janice for being creative in their questioning of the Guardian, and Tony and Christopher for wrapping their minds around the time puzzle Ian has given us. Hopefully all together we’ll be able to prevent this Athena from 47 minutes ago from being destroyed and prevent any of the crew from dying. Well, the ones who aren’t meant to die.

Executive Officer: Jeremy DeSpain

Ship Status: Well the im is AWESOME! This crew is awesome, its a joy to work here.

Spotlight: The Entire crew for finding Main Sim places to post and keep us trucking along.

The Athena “Time Team” are poised to spring the trap on Counter Strike Agent Pierce in the past… but will their very presence in the timeline cause a change that none of them can foresee?

Meanwhile in the “present” on the Planet of the Guardian of Forever, Counterstrike Crew from the obliterated Starship are fighting to get through the portal so that they can remake time in their own image. Will security, medical and science be able to unravel all they need to know to give their crew mates “time” to divert the river of time from causing them to be destroyed a second time?

FComm’s Comments: The Athena and her crew are doing well. Her posting level, while lower due to summer vacations and activities as with most ships in STF, was still within expected limits of a 3/5/7 speed ship with 97 posts this month. The sim is moving along well and most of the crew seem to have found a place to participate in telling the story. Good job Athena crew! Please continue to amaze us with your remarkable creativity and wonderful storytelling as we enter fall.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The Atlantis is doing very well in spite of summer vacations ending and school beginning. The crew has continued to create amazing stories to entertain their writing partners and those who read them. The sim by our very own Jeremy “Ox” DeSpain has kept a solid pace even with the string of LOA’s as we get our children off to school, STF’er’s going back to school, and us teachers returning to work. Our very own COS is on a very amazing LOA and we do look to have him return in a month with fabulous stories to make us green with envy. So if you are waiting on a post from him be patient. Everyone else great job!

Spotlight: I would like to spotlight Jeremy DeSpain for doing amazing work on his first solo sim. So far he has created a spot for everyone to participate. Great work there Ox. I am so proud of you and so happy you permitted the Atlantis to be the last stage of your GM journey.

Ship Status: We’re puttering along alright, but the ship was hit by the same LOAs and AWOLs a number of other ships are undoubtedly dealing with from the summer. But we have a new GM (doing a training sim) and everyone is pretty excited to see what Jeremy has in store for us. Other than that, side sims are happening but they moved quite slowly over the month for the most part.

AFComm’s Comments: I concur with the XO, and as the GMt, we are moving slow. Uncertain of root cause but attempting to mak that more for next month that it is not an issue.

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Jerome Davis

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: We’ve been moving along well as of late after a short summer slump. I have been happy at seeing the crew get engaged with the side sim while fairly active on the main as well. Kenson reports that we are in the end game for the Main Sim and we are looking forward to see just what he has in store for us next!

Spotlight: Christopher Bennett for his continued excellence in the role of Chief of Security Lieutenant JG Hannibal Ashur

Executive Officer: Joana Ribeiro

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The Dresden has been moving along steadily, even though a little slower than what I would like to see. Summer is a time for vacations and I know some people have been away, so the slight drop in posting is to be expected. I am hoping that September sees the Dresden back to full speed as the crew returns to their normal routine.

Spotlight: This month I would like to spotlight David Bennett and his very interesting Engineer Orin Losc, who, contrarily to the general Betazoid population, is a machine empath. I have absolutely been enjoying reading his posts!

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: The Dresden answered a distress call from a freighter. The strange thing was that the freighter had only two men in their whole ship of about 30. The two men were also very ill. After investigations, it was concluded that there were three women who were responsible for the deaths of the male crew. The three women were rescued from a ship that was adrift by the the freighter. Slowly the men in the freighter died. It was discovered that the women were actually feeding on the neural energy of the men. With women, they did not feed but were able to control their minds.

This month: The three women had been captured and are now awaiting Starfleet orders. A Starfleet Security ship, USS Waterloo, have reached the location of the Dresden to discuss those pending orders.

FComm’s Comments: The Dresden and her crew are doing well. Her posting level of 175 posts for the month of August was well within the expected limits of a 3/5/7 speed ship. While your XO commented that you hope posting will increase in September I might suggest that maybe your crew needed MORE summer fun outdoors. All jokes aside I am thrilled the crew is full of fantastic stories and wonderful writing ideas. The Dresden had the second highest posting rate in the fleet so well done to you and your crew. The sim is moving along well and most of the crew seem to have found a place to participate in telling the story. Good job Dresden crew! Please continue to amaze us with your remarkable creativity and wonderful storytelling as we enter fall.

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Cale Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: The owie is working away despite some LOAs and other issues with posting. The sim is close to a resolution I think as we have located the Intruder and seem to have an idea how it got on board. We will continue to investiage and then when all the creatures are accounted for we will be back on our way to build the hospital.

Spotlight: Everyone for their posting and continual work in both the main and side sims.

Executive Officer: D Grisham

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We have the gastropod under observation now and are working on a way to feed it the energy it needs. However, the telepaths on the ship sensed a presence that ‘wasn’t’ the simple life form of the gastropod. We thought the intruder alert was attributed to the little creature and her brood found behind a panel, but it was just a coincidence of time that both were discovered at once but on different decks. The ship is still at Red Alert until we can discern what the other presence is. Hopefully, once we find out if it is a threat, the sim will really kick off.

Sim Overview: The crew continued their investigation into the semi-sentient gastropod mother and its eggs that was found between Deck 4 and Deck 3. It was established that it was likely sending out feelings of distress that the psi-positive members of the crew were picking up. The creature was transported to one of the science labs for more investigation in to how to help them as they are exhibiting signs of a bradymetabolism and the crew are currently trying to provide sustenance enough to bring the creature back to some sort of consciousness so that one of the telepaths can attempt to make.

Meanwhile, the crew is on the hunt for a possible second creature while they also establish how they got on board. The going hypothesis is that they might have come over in the cargo transfer from the Starbase, which coincidentally resulted in some mixed up cargo from the USS Vincennes. I suspect that we will be finishing this sim in the next week or so.

Spotlight: Specially baked GM Cookies go to Sam Pennington for figuring out that the creature was a mother and might have ‘children’. The eggs were consequently found a post later. Another cookie went to Krys for figuring out that the creatures got on board via the new cargo. And my final cookie goes to Julia for insisting on her character attempting telepathic contact.

FComm’s Comments: The Ogawa and her crew are doing well. Her posting level, while typically lower due to summer vacations thrived this month with a total of 205 posts for August. This is above average for a ship with a posting limit of 5 days. The keynote event this month was the resignation of D. Grisham as XO of the ship. Her character will be sadly missed. Mykl’s brand of wit and humor was a pleasure to read and RP with. Good luck to our amazing ex-XO and good luck with your next chapter in Mykl’s story when you chose to write it. While the exit of one character is sad the entry of new one is exciting. Julia Hagar and her character, Lieutenant Commander Arun Onuru, will be the new XO of the Ogawa. I know she will be great. Good job Ogawa crew! Please continue to amaze us with your remarkable creativity and wonderful storytelling as we enter fall.

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Slow month with only 90 posts. Some are posting a little less often while a couple have been AWOL for quite some time. I expect our AWOL members will bounce back shortly and get those posting with them unstuck again.

Jeremy has slid over from the SOO position to a strategic ops JO. Jonathan S. has taken over the SOO position. So we still have all the key roles filled. The GM isn’t attempting to engage most of the members of the crew. With almost nothing going on in the main sim, the crew continues to occupy themselves mostly with side sims.

Spotlight: Kate and Steven. They’re always active and always telling a great story together. This month it’s been the unearthing of Aedan’s past and the identity of his parents.

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 9

Ship Status: The ship is doing great. An unknown writer has secured the first, of many to come, in her plan to interrelate the STF site. Unfortunately for Captain Mathias, this person may be the last one he wanted at his upcoming Thanksgiving dinner. Aedan is super excited at the prospect of canoeing with his long-lost cousin in the middle of an isolated river. Dr. Stone you may need to perform CPR on one or both if the canoe unexpectedly overturns. Jessica and Duncan are terrorizing barnyard denizens with a biplane while Lt Ivan Gunnyikov is teaching an unexpected lesson tactical tack downs to our own XO. The cafeteria is still closed due to the incident during the reception for Admiral Sabok but Evie’s coffee shop is ready for business. Lt. Demakis is out and about shopping. FYI if you say you know Aedan Teller you get a 20% discount at most retail places except the casino because we all know the house wins there.

Spotlight: I wish to spotlight Steven Sigle and Adam W. for not only putting up with my hairbrained scheme to force two people (the CO and CEO) to have to be related by blood until the end of time. They are amazing writers and I can’t wait to see the witty banter that the two write so well in upcoming posts. You both are amazing writers. I am lucky to be able to participate in RP with you.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: I agree with the comments of the CO here. Lack of main sim involvement has stalled tha main sim, but side sims have kept most crew involved at some level.
