The Pioneer Fleet Report - February 2021

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Welcome to Fantasy Planet
Mission Start Date: 20th February 2021

Admiral Anethamai has arrived onboard specifically to meet with the crew of the Athena. She wanted to personally extend an invitation to the captain and crew to go and have a very special R&R. After all the drama of the last two missions the crew deserves a break.

Spotlight: Silke Fahl as Viyara Nazeem has been everywhere at once adding to the magic which is the Athena’s crew.

FComm’s Comments: Linds is excused for this months report due to LOA but Miriam hasn’t communicated as far as I know into why she had not submitted one, so she had not been excused. There are a couple of AWOLs as well as some LOAs but engagement has been stellar, so I’m not worried about the ship health. The new sim seems deceptively peaceful, so I hope the crew is prepared for what will likely be a trap.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Atlantis had had a few Loa’s and Awols but nothing too extreme or concerning. The crew works together like a well oiled machine filling in gaps where needed to move a story along or help a scene out.

The main sim continues to stand out in fun, humor, excitement, and energy. Luke continues to present situations that allow Kelly and company to skirt the lines of protocol but still complete the job with integrity and ingenuity. I am not sure where the GM is taking us but I can’t wait to experience more

As side sims go there is something for everyone even if the pace of some is moving slower at times. As a CO I am fine with this. The key to a successful ship is writers that are sparked with creative inspiration. Like a good spaghetti sauce, sometimes scenes need to simmer to have the best result.

Spotlight: This month I want to spotlight James Sinclair and Nathan Derricutt. They have been working a story line exploring how do Marines and Security live and work in the same area of space. At times it has been hostile and other times inquisitive. During all of it however the depth and scope of James and Nathan’s writing has shown us not only can these two individuals write a story but also make you glued for the next post.

Nathan’s ability to let us peer into Styxx’s past continues to reveal what a complex and dynamic character he has created.

James continues to give us a glimpse as to why Mardusk thinks like he does. In a sentence Mardusk works as hard as he plays.

Well done guys. I can’t wait to continue reading.

Vacancies:

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: We’re a mixed bag this month. The sim is moving along nicely in two regions - one being on the pirate ship where some horse trading is happening, and the other back on board the Atlantis where we’re trying to find things to do the horse trading with. That is the primary focus of the crew. As it is we seem to have a mix of attendance which is not in keeping with not having anything to do. Each group in particular has a job that they can be doing. While there is a lot of ‘talking’ and not much ‘action’ it still opens up a lot of possibilities for creative crew which we have in abundance.

Spotlight: I spotlight Jennifer Ward this month in her role as Counselor. Normally a fairly static position, Jennifer has broadened her character’s history in such a way that she can involve herself in many a thread. Kudos for her versatile and wise character!

Vacancies:

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: Health ship, with a healthy debate on exactly what they can trade with the pirates. With so much damage and a long way from home, friends are hard to come by. With the Star-Fleet morals stand strong or with desperation make for strange bed fellows. Since the poor outing at Base 5 the number of friends the Atlantis has is fairly small and with so many races in a cold war the slightest trade might destabilize the region.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: With a few AWOLs and a few LOAs, the health of the Atlantis looks to be doing alright but my concern from last month is still present.

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: There’s a few minor AWOLs as the month closes out, but I am not worried about our overall outlook for March. I have added a few fresh faces to the roster which are sure to help provide posting opportunities for everyone. I will, of course, watch the situation and take appropriate steps if and when they are necessary.

J Ridgley’s introductory threads to his character (the COS) continue to make for an entertaining read. I cannot narrow down my favorite moment out of these, they all rock. :)

My focus on the next month will be nailing down a CNS and looking to perhaps bulk out the departments with some JOs.

Spotlight: As I stated above, my COS J Ridgley continues to make for an active member of the crew, he’s even recruited his own JO for me which is pretty sweet. James now has another air marine to play with (Hi Nathan) and a new batallion commander (Hey Travis) to work with.

Vacancies: CNS and JOs for all departments.

Executive Officer: AJ Paulson

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We’ve had several people new people aboard. J, Travis, Christopher Logan, and Nathan. Glad to have you aboard.

We’re just getting underway with the Main Sim. My character along with a security detail are investigating a murder happening on a mining station. So far shipwise we’re doing fine.

Spotlight: J Ridgely- for his effort of engaging with the crew in side sims

James Sinclair
Travis Good - Their character’s interaction with one another is highly appreciated and entertaining.

Vacancies: We’re full

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Sim Overview: Previously ..
Commodore Moll, Chairman of the Corporation and Fleet Subcommittee on Starbase 157, has tasked the Chimera to an area of space called the Scar, an angular nebula that holds several unaligned worlds and three Federation mining colonies sub contracted through civilian corporations. The Magnus Corporation holds the rights on Mining Station Plouton 9. Mason Larden, a lawyer for the Corporation is accompanying the Chimera crew to assess additional ‘safety irregularities’. The Sheriff has been murdered and the deputy is the principle suspect. The Corporation has requested assistance in investigating this murder and, if needed, help keep order there until the ‘law’ could be restored. Due to the political ‘instability’ of the region the Chimera has also been tasked to assist in a survey to understand the region better, and seek out the USS Shogun which Starfleet has lost contact on. The USS Shogun had been patrolling the area to keep an eye on the region’s Starfleet interests there and provide deterrence from the unaligned worlds who were often in conflict and disappeared without a trace.

En route, the different departments were individually prepped by way of Mason Larden’s team. While Mason discussed the issues at the Station and the murder with the command crew, engineering surveyed the cargo that was taken aboard – large mobile replicator units capable of dispensing any volumes of programmed bulk equipment. Science and Medical were briefed by Sung-Ho, who revealed that the planet had qualities that had narcotic effects requiring vaccinations to counter. Security and the Flight Group were briefed by a woman named Regina who shared Intel about pirates in the region and the patrolling required to protect the valuable mining cargo as they made their way from Plouton 9 to the Transfer Station outside of the Scar.

And, more recently ..
Having arrived, the Chimera has been in touch with the Administrator, Jane Hardiman, who outlined a number of tasks that the Chimera could undertake. As we leave off, Security has beamed down to investigate the murder site accompanied by David Stone, Chief Foreman, engineering is in contact with Walter Niven, Maintenance chief, and the Captain is investigating pirate activity and last known information about the Shogun.

Spotlight: James Sinclair, once more, for his well thought out posts, characterization and, recently having done a bang up job on an overview for another new character. Good job James!

FComm’s Comments: The Chimera seems to be moving along smoothly, though with a few hiccups in regards to some crew AWOLs. I’m hoping the addition of the new crew helps bring some stability.

USS Dresden

Commanding Officer: Joana Ribeiro

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Unfortunately, the month of February saw real life take away some members of the crew, which did not help in improving the overall posting numbers from January. There were also a few LOAs and AWOLs but nothing out of the ordinary.

The main sim keeps moving forward, although its speed was affected by the loss of two members, and there are multiple side sims going on.

We are currently doing heavy recruiting in order restore the Dresden to her full potential, so if you are interested in joining the crew do contact me or Ben.

Spotlight: This month I would like to spotlight Ben Z for his tireless work behind the scenes, as well as his incredible side sim ideas! I would also like to spotlight his latest one ‘Friends of the Ferengi’ that you can find here: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/dresden/posts/124813/

Vacancies: CE, JOs in every department.

Executive Officer: Ben Z

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The ship has slowed down this month on all accounts, from command to DH to JO. We’ve had some AWOLs and general OOC disruptions for many (myself included) have caused us to lose a bit of momentum. That being said, James has set up a wonderful sim for us and has recently given us a summary with ideas for how each department can address the situation, which is a perfect way to get us all writing again! I have also fallen behind in my goal of recruiting fresh blood to the ship, but I now have a couple weeks of limbo IRL, so I have no excuse now. I will be reaching out to club members over the next few weeks to gage interest!

Spotlight: James Sinclair for being a wonderful GM and working with our crew through a variety of challenges over the past couple of months. He is a talented story writer and we are lucky to have him!

Vacancies: JOs in all departments and swing positions! Contact Ben at Zenbe10#6656 on Discord to inquire!

Gamemaster: James Sinclair

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Sim Overview: The Dresden is on approach to the Julien Echo station, but trying to piece together what is happening to the station and the alien vessel docked there.

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: As the CO & XO have already stated, engagement with the crew and staying within posting limits have been hampered during this month. With their acknowledgement of this being an issue and seeming to be working towards fixing it, I’m not overly concerned about the ship’s health but will be monitoring through this next month.

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The owie has had an ok month with some AWOLs and LOAs but things have continued to tick over. I am loving the side sims and the development happening across the ship. We had our main sim start at the end of the month with the bombshell from our GM that believe it or not we are going to be hosting a film crew! Talk about no pressure for the first mission on the new spec!

Spotlight: So many, too many to name them all! Silke, Nicole, Jake, Matt, Amber, Linds, Nick, Brandon, Elin and Russ are the ones who spring to mind but everyone’s been amazing.

Vacancies: Assistant Chief Medical Officer

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: 1- Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship.
The sim has really only just begun with a few people getting involved. A long suffering flag officer has announced a film crew will be joining the Ogawa on her Maidan voyage to document the success of the ship

2- Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?
Like was mentioned the sim really just started so I suppose Cale is this months winner!

Spotlight:

FComm’s Comments: Linds is excused from reporting this month due to being on LOA. It seems the slightly slower period of being off sim is over and the fun should be getting started. I’m not overly concerned with ship health but I hope the new sim brings more engagement.

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: How is your ship looking overall?

The post count is up from January slightly, but the improvement from January to February was more than that number reflects. January we just had a bunch of thread bumping and some main sim activity. Now it feels more like we are rolling again. Once again all key positions have been filled.

And I will just say, I love this sim that we’ve been doing. A famous inventor, a knight, a Victorian woman who is actually an eternal chaotic being fused with a Trill, a little girl three years older than she actually should be, a refuged Romulan crew, and an alien invasion force. It’s been a wild ride.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

See spotlight.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

We just need people to stay active enough as they are able. If a couple people drop off then the people who were posting with them are more likely to drop off. That’s kind of what happened in January I think. The crew did a nice job bouncing back.

Spotlight: James Sinclair. I’m including the link for all to enjoy the unique rock-paper-scissors strategy James came up with. It’s always fun when someone can spice up the main sim with their creativity.

Vacancies: None!

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: The Outpost is moving along slow and steady for a ship of its size and speed. The main sim appears to be coming to a juncture where we may be getting some answers on how the artifacts are doing what they are doing.

Several members of the crew are dealing with real life issues that have slowed posting down. As part of the command staff, Adam and I talked with the crew as a whole and in general about this. The wonderful things about a small ship is the ability to know your crew on a deeply personal level. It allows us to not only be writing partners with each other but a writing family. When one of us struggles the rest of us try to help out until the person or persons are back and ready to work so to speak. So yes there maybe times the main sim has moved a bit slower than one night like or someone has to wait a few extra days to a reply in a side sim, the crew of Outpost 42 know how to pull together and help each other out. For me as an XO I can’t be prouder of what the writers of the Outpost produces each month. Generally the posts are multiple paragraphs and worth the wait so even if we occasionally sacrifice a number count the crew never sacrifices quality and creativity.

Gamemaster: Liam Schoepp

Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: The Endgame is near.

The tablet fragments containing the mysterious being behind the timeline fluctuations have all been found. It is now up to the crew of the Outpost to decide what to do next. This will not be an easy choice however, as the being has revealed their sentience, albeit one that came out of a fusion of them and another. Arguing for their right to live, this new creature’s fate is now in the hands of the crew, who have rescued Romulans, fought off mysterious invaders bent on sealing the being away again, and met a rather famous inventor. Only one question remains now…

What will they choose to do, and what impact will it have?

Spotlight: Spotlights for this month go to Hjortur Ingi and Melissa Aragon for their work on keeping Tesla safe, as well as helping to move the sim along. I really enjoyed their banter while they were working with the inventor, and look forward to how they are going to tackle the final bit of the sim.

FComm’s Comments: I do not see the spotlight section that Adam referenced in Ship status and I’ve pointed this out on the Discord’s Exodus channel.

There have been some AWOLs and LOAs over the month but OP42 looks to be moving along. As the sim reaches its finale I hope that the crew enjoy the payoff.
