The Black Fleet Report - September 2018

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Janice B.

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The Main Sim is off to a slow start, with RL surprising and tying up our crew’s progression. As we gradually adjust to them, the Sim will hopefully fly much more rapidly into the story our GMT has for us. It should be interesting to learn what an incident during the late 2000 era from North America has to do with the present day for our crew.

The sim starts off with Dvorak and Avik both receiving a summons to Starbase 51 in order to resupply, receive new orders and meet with a Rear Admiral Jason Mcginnis for a briefing. On arriving, the ship is hailed by a woman stationed at the base who obviously isn’t a stickler for procedure. Her mannerisms both interest and surprise Avik as she steps forward, handling the situation so the CO is spared unpleasant reminders of an unruly batch of JOs.

Afterward, the crew is spending shore leave at the local wine, bar, and grill. As the CE and CMO both settle into their surroundings, Drake is approached by a strange insect-like being with six arms, mandibles and a taste for bacon cheeseburgers and fries.

Spotlight: None at this time.

Overall Ship Health: 5

Sim Overview: The Sim just started, however, between LOA’s and AWOLs progression has been slow. The Europa has been ordered to Starbase 51, a far distant star base on assignment for deep space exploration. The Europa is just getting to the star base for their debriefing and shore leave before they embark on their assignment. The crew is just starting to get a taste of what happens in the distant, forgotten corners of the federation.

Spotlight: No spotlight this month

AFComm’s Comments: It would appear that, just like other ships in the fleet, LOAs have definitely taken a toll on post numbers. The Europa is not in bad shape and I have every confidence that Chris will do a great job with his GMT.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

Crew Posting Level: 8
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 10

Ship Status: We are rolling a little slowly into the new sim, but the posts are still going strong. Details in posts are good, very few of the one line, keep it alive posts, as always great depth in most.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 9
Overall Ship Health: 9

Sim Overview: The Genesis has been tasked to explore the still uncharted space in the Alpha Quadrant. They had come into contact with two ships that were warp capable but were using nuclear energy to power their ships. Technologically speaking, the inhabitants of the system were still way behind the Federation. This was a first contact situation.

This month:
There was communications initiated between the Genesis and the Merry, the ship of an Admiral of the Pallas Global Corps. The Admiral had invited the Genesis to board the Merry. A shuttle was used to transport an away team to the Merry.

Spotlight:

AFComm’s Comments: I have no concerns about the Genesis! She’s got a large crew and not a one is AWOL. And I agree with Luke. If there was a one-liner post, then it definitely slipped by. The talent on the Genesis is great! Keep it up! (I noticed no CO report. I can’t recall if Julia was LOA during that time, but I suspect she was.)

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: The landing party have lost contact with the Merrimack. They have reached a cavern and climbed down to the base, where they found nests of eggs, serviced by a micro-city of light-sensitive bugs and tiny wires and tubes. As they began to investigate further, a ‘mother of eggs’ serpent has appeared, and she has a disintegration ray, and she isn’t afraid to use it! The Merrimack was forced to leave orbit due to a space battle taking place with the USS Ark Angel at the very heart. They are now preparing to release and detonate the two sub-space bombs that were built with the hope of crippling the Dark Serpents within their own environment.

I have reduced the ships health as the ship has gone rather quiet. In part that is due to summer holidays and annual leave and is quite normal for this time of year. There have been several LOAs and illness. However, there was also an AWOL who I have unrostered, some overdue posts, and a confusion over post orders that all contrived to slow things down. Some of this slowness is also due to the nature of the shared Sim with the Ark Angel, which entails the GM waiting for both ships to reach the same point before continuing on. On the plus side, the ship has a full compliment of Department Heads, even some junior officers, and probably the most rostered crew for many years. The Sim is still moving ahead and most are thoroughly involved in that. In addition, there are several side Sims still taking place. So, I am not concerned that everything will pick up again.

Spotlight: In no particular order, excellent considered posts this month from Melissa Aragon, James Sinclair, Hjortur Ingi and Catt Bennett.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Sim Overview: Overall the sim progress near to the end, we had some hiccups this past month on the Ark Angel side of things with LOAs/AWOLs needing to be dealt with but we managed. On the Ark angel the ship is neck deep in ship combat, plus dealing with a boarding party, on the Merrimack ship side the crew are also in ship combat and with the bulk of the away team on the underground caverns on the third planet are currently battling it out with a giant mother serpent that shoots red laser beams from its eyes!

Spotlight:

AFComm’s Comments: The Merrimack appears to be doing ok. Hiccups will happen, so I’m not overly concerned. I am concerned though that there is no XO Report again. I was given that task to address it and I believe I let it slip through the cracks. I’ll pick up the ball and see that we start getting those reports again.

Oed V

Commanding Officer: Tony Findora

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: August was a rough month. I had to take a long LOA at the beginning and after that we seemed to have a lot of people either LOA or AWOL. 3 AWOL, 7 LOA. When you have that many LOA on Oed, it is definitely going to stall things out a bit. My hope is that things will change after Labor Day, and once I find out what’s going on with the people AWOL.

Spotlight: I’d like to spotlight Sidney and Trinity this month. I cant run Oed by myself and they ja e taken on some mighty projects in the background. They both are consistent posters too! And they set the example for times when they quite literally have nowhere else to post. They create something! They are both prime examples of what it means to stay within limits on Oed!

Executive Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: Oed is doing well. At the end of the month LOA’s kind of crept up and slowed down some threads. That has been addressed by the Governor. Overall the colony if the best its been. It just ebbs and flows sometimes. I think to me right now the hardest thing to do is follow all the PRISM story lines. Also some of the protections we put in place for PRISMs such as having redundant PRISM GMs has not worked out causing some of them to stop when the primary story teller is not around. We will work on that.

Spotlight: Im going with Janice B as our JO in security. One should read the background she wrote up for her character. She always post well and detailed and finds a way into action. Good work.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: Sidney does have a valid point. It does seem that PRSIMs still stall out when the one primarily running it disappears. We’ll probably have a discussion about that and see what we can do. Overall, we do have a lot going on in the background. Creating a somewhat understood timeline of events, fixing the Oed V brochure, updating all department descriptions. September should be better.

USS Olympic

Commanding Officer: D Grisham

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 7
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: We have the gastropod under observation now and are working on a way to feed it the energy it needs. However, the telepaths on the ship sensed a presence that ‘wasn’t’ the simple life form of the gastropod. We thought the intruder alert was attributed to the little creature and her brood found behind a panel, but it was just a coincidence of time that both were discovered at once but on different decks. The ship is still at Red Alert until we can discern what the other presence is. Hopefully, once we find out if it is a threat, the sim will really kick off.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The club is definitely experiencing a lot of LOAs at the moment. Its hard to see when the LOAs will all start disappearing, but I would say the Olympic is still doing ok. Terry is on LOA and so is excused from his report. Josh appears only slightly AWOL. I don’t know if he is on LOA or not, so we shall see soon. Overall, I think September will be better.

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Ray Branch

Crew Posting Level: 7
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 7

Ship Status: The Wolverine appears to be in better status since last month. My week long LOA didn’t appear to have too much affect on the sim. As always, Jason has thrown us a curve ball, with two crew members now merged into one.

The Counselor had retrieved a data chip from a merchant while on the alien station, and hopefully it contains some useful data.

Spotlight: Jason! I didn’t expect the plot twist he performed, this definitely made things a bit more interesting.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: Terry is currently LOA and is excused from this month’s report. The Wolverine is no exception to the LOA bug that seems to have plagued STF for August. I know quite a few people have had LOAs (throughout August in all of Black Fleet) in most of the ships. I think once we get over this bump in the club than we will see more from the ships in Black Fleet.
