The Pioneer Fleet Report

October 2021

The Dresden being decommissioned was, at the end, the best decision for the fleet. Everyone has been doing a good job despite a rough beginning to school and of course, the loss of Steven. I expect that things will pick up for another month or so before holidays start really kicking us in the teeth. Every ship and outpost looks healthy and on course. Keep up the work Pioneer!

The Pioneer Fleet Report - September 2021

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Miriam W

How is your ship looking overall? The Athena is doing well. The sim is coming along with some exciting new developments. Still not a huge amount going on in the side-sim department, but the side sims that are happening are moving along at a nice steady rate.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Ian Kerby

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The crew of the Athena have been transported to the surface by an unknown source. The Beings on Fantasy Planet have revealed that they are the kith and kin of Apollo, interstellar rings of great power who need others to believe in them to maintain their power levels.
Admiral Anethamai also reveals that she is herself the Being Athena and was drawn to the Federation a while back by the Athena’s crew crying out when the previous Athena was destroyed being tied in by their belief in the ship.
Now the only thing that remains to be seen is this: how will Athena’s crew fare, fighting alongside the Pantheon in an InterBeing war…

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Miriam W as Captain Jennifer Wallace

FComm’s Comments: Ian is doing a great job with the Sim. Leadership is keeping everyone engaged.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is producing posting rates commiserate with its posting rate and crew complement. The main sim has us dealing with a new foe or maybe an ally. It all depends on if they bloody our nose or invite us to dinner. Coincidentally the last time we had dinner it did not end up so bad. We got supplies and a full belly so the Atlantis was coming up Milhouse. Thank you Luke for constantly giving us an amazing sim to post to.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I could go on and on about posts or threads but instead, I would like to take a minute and thank the crew publically for all their support, patience, and understanding. It is no secret I have been struggling. It is no secret right now we all have our own personal struggles. Life is hard for all of us in different ways and at different times. The Atlantean crew however has done a tremendous job of pulling together and supporting not only me but everyone elsewhere it was needed. Gene and Luke, I can not thank you both enough for stepping up far above what is expected to keep our old girl moving along. To the crew, thank you for pitching in and doing what was needed where to move side sims and the main sim forward. People always say they have the best crew but it is only in times of hardship and struggle do people really shine. Over the past two months, the crew not only shone brightly but gave the patience and understanding a captain can only hope for. Thank you, Nathan, Jen, Terry, James, David, Leonora, Rusty, D, Gene, and Luke.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Supporting my crew in their creative endeavors.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Things are a bit of a struggle this month. I know that for me it was a struggle for posting with RL and some time off from work that amounted to my not posting a thing. However we do have a bit of a plague of people being away and I think it is a mix of involvement and of the season/time, and, where the crew is small that splitting it can be (which it turned out here) problematic for continuing conversation and action when some drop off. I’ve been working some in the posts with Luke to bring the rest of the crew together for the next action. Luke has set up a dramatic encounter coming and with everyone in one spot it is easier to crack the whip so to speak.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month? Luke with this unexpected entrance of this ‘Darkness’, the bully on the block who, admittedly is a big boy.

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Approximately two weeks ago (game time) the Atlantis was pulled into a graviton ellipse dragging her 50,000 light years from Federation Space. A ship carrying at least one crew member who identified himself as “Wayne ‘The Rock’ Gretzky” and is known by the local inhabitants of the region as the ‘Great One’ was also traveling in the ellipse and ‘rescued’ the Atlantis by pulling her from the ellipse before it traveled even further from the Federation. He claimed he was going to try to find a way to turn it around so the Atlantis could use it as a means of getting home. Since then there has been no contact from the Great One. That being said, the Atlantis might have to make friends. The damage was extreme from the ellipse… including hull, electronic, warp, and other systems. One power conduit burned a vertical hole through four decks of the ship.

Since your arrival you came to a Neutral Diplomacy star base, known as Base 5. While there, one party of the ship lost their tricorder and phaser and during the subsequent search for the weapon, security personnel and officers, stunned local ‘purple and gold safety officers’ leading to a stand off with the Base itself. Unable to be repaired at Base 5 the Atlantis makes a deal with pirates who repair much of the Atlantis for some advancements in warp technology.

Currently a galactic scourge named the Darkness is approaching the Pirates and the Atlantis.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: Sim is moving along with a new mystery ally. Everyone looks to be in posting limits and the ship looks healthy. Great job all around even with the first real month of school happening!

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

How is your ship looking overall? We have a little bit of an AWOL problem. I’m guilty of it too, I think a focus on helping each other post will help clear things up. Beyond that, we have a full compliment of DHs and would love to snag a few more JOs to fill things out nicely.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.AWOLs and posting need to improve, other than that, again, I’d like to see if we can convince a few good folks to join the fun as JOs.

Executive Officer: AJ Paulson

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’re slowly trying to stay afloat

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Half of my JOs are active. The other half I’ll have to delegate to their dh.

Who is the shining star this month? Hjortur

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: Ill keep an eye on this ship in the next month or so. Im sure CO, XO, and GM can get things kickstarted soon.

USS Dresden

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

How is your ship looking overall? I have just returned for an extended LOA as a result of health reasons. The sim is progressing and some sparest side sims going on. We have some AWOLs which we are working on and some new characters joining us at the start of this month which will be fun to see develop. I’m so grateful to the work of all the crew and especially Linds for keeping the ship going without me. I hope I can make this up to the whole crew.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I loved so many points reading back, some of the one liners and replies to posts have been amazing and the side sims have been great to read. I’m really proud of everyone on the owie.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I’d like to increase our engagement. Abigail G gave an amazing idea in the forward about a sim bingo card which I have reported in the ship and would like to encourage the players to have a go at for fun but also our main sim seems to be getting more active so we will have that fun to look forward to.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Geoff Joosten

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Owie has been dispatched to Unroth III to provide humanitarian aid. In their company is a camera crew documenting their every action to compile a documentary. They have currently landed and are beginning to set up.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Linds, as always, helped get the crew unstuck and moving forward

FComm’s Comments: Despite both CO and XO having long LOA’s due to health, the ship is still active. Now that the CO has returned and the XO is on the mend, I am sure it will continue to be an exciting ship. Big thanks to all players on the Ogawa!

Outpost 42

Commanding Officer: Adam W.

How is your ship looking overall? August and September were the two months with the lowest post counts on the Outpost since I started keeping track at the beginning of 2017. A big part of the reason for that is losing Steven, both because of his direct contributions to the roleplaying on the Outpost and because some of us needed some time to get back into roleplaying as usual. I also have a feeling some of us have just had a lot going on right now. These months were not active at all, but early October is indicating things are headed in a better direction. As of my writing of this everyone on the roster is in the green and still would be if they had a three day posting limit.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? New member of the Outpost Nathan Derricutt shined brightly in September, which is saying something considering just how low the activity level was from everyone else. He’s playing a high priestess who also is our new counselor. He’s impressively conveying her calming presence in a way that convinces me his counselor will be a natural for the role.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. The momentum from early October needs to keep going. And if it doesn’t then the leadership of the Outpost needs to nudge along the crew.

Executive Officer: Kate O’Neill

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The main sim is moving along nicely for the Outpost’s posting speed and crew complement. Liam continues to give everyone a place to post and rolls with any post we throw at him. He is a great GM and we are lucky to have him. The DH’s have been working hard in the main sim and helping with check in’s for our newest member Nathan Derricutt.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Outpost has a small crew but that is what makes the ship so great. Most of our JO’s are NE’s or second characters but they continue to fill in gaps and make stories flow beautifully.

Who is the shining star this month? I would like to spotlight Nathan Derricutt and his newest character that will be the Outpost’s counselor. It has been a lot of fun learning about the character during the medical check in.

Gamemaster: Liam Schoepp

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: One more piece of the puzzle to find in engineering, then all of the chronological chaos that has been driving the Captain crazy will hopefully be sorted out. Hopefully the crew will reach it before the mysterious invaders do…

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? This month the biggest contributor was Melissa Aragon, for her character’s work in not only getting some answers out of a mysterious character, but also bravely going into engineering to find the final puzzle piece.

FComm’s Comments: Any ship that lost Steven as a player and friend is probably struggling and with good reason. I see no need for concern as leadership has a plan and new members are revitalizing a crew filled with sorrow.
