The Meridian Fleet Report - September 2021

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Given the size of our DH group, we have excellent participation. Only 2 of 12 crew are past log limits and as a general rule these staff are great. I’ll send out a note to them to get them back on the beam. I’d give participation in the main sim an A the side sims are slower in the B range right now.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Protecting a Tholian carrier from the Breen has brought the Federation into conflict with the Breen. With the Tholians helping them, the Olinski attempt to try to block the Breen from entering the Federation. A battle is now being fought near SB 31

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: Olinski is moving along at pace and the crew is active with no concerns with posting limits. The crew seems engaged in the current sim which attests to their interest and enjoyment of the story. As always Olinski is a solid ship and we have no concerns with her health. Sydney was exempt from reports this month.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: Travis Good

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is doing well overall. We have a few AWOLS but we are still posting Well.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? My favorite shop fast is being able to teach leadership to others for a better role playing experience and character development. It is with my CE, Lieutenant Lovejoy.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Get more players and a GM.

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?I noticed a lull in activity throughout September as a result of IRL conflicts and extended LOAs/AWOLs in our DH team. That said, I’m hoping the introduction of new sideSIMs and the ongoing progression of the MainSIM will increase posting over the next few months.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Most of our JO team has stuck within AWOL limits (save two) and continue to engage in the MainSIM and SideSIMs across the board. I hope to see more JO involvement in our MainSIM (read: more action!), but I have no concern for these lovely humans.

Who is the shining star this month? Allison Hanna is one of my favourite writers in STF! She’s fused her passions for music and storytelling into her character Umbri Zayne, whose bubbly but somewhat unsure disposition is as entertaining as it is relatable. I’m super excited to see where Umbri’s journey takes her!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The Chernov is still looking for a GM, but the crew and command team are really holding their own and continue to create vibrant stories.

XO excused this month.

GM: No GM

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Jerome Davis

How is your ship looking overall? It’s a bit rough right now with numerous AWOLS though I’m hoping that now I have settled into my new RL job, we can pick up and move forward. I do believe some of the downturn is due to Steven’s passing

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The Ensign that just ran up to the new Captain the moment he stepped on ship. That was hilarious!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I want to get everyone AWOL to post at least twice in the month ahead.

Executive Officer: David Shotton

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? With our new CO aboard the DH’s get a chance to do something the Odin hasn’t done in many a year, great a new Captain to the ship. Welcome Jerome!

We have an opening now for a Chief Science Officer to round out the DH team, and of course this would be a great time for a new one to come aboard.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month? Thanks to our GM for keeping the posts going where he could. It’s been a tough couple of months.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The pirate ship that the Odin has been pursuing is now in the hands of the Federation. The pirate crew seem to be made up of very young people. The sim is at its very tail end. In the meantime, a new CO has just taken over.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: The Odin is recovering from a few rough months. Jerome has come onboard as her new CO and doing an excellent job, along with Dave and Kenson, in guiding her back to her feet. There is a solid plan to move forward and although it might appear slow the sim is progressing and the crew is finding its way again.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: David Shotton

How is your ship looking overall? The Saracen has taken a hit recently with some LOA’s and Awols and in no small part my own lack of general time to be able to get stuck into writing over the last couple of months. The ships Sim is still going and James has done a great job of keeping it ticking over, helped in no small part by input from Terry and Luke. Thanks team for keeping the posts rolling over this difficult period!

Posting has started to pick up slowly with a couple of people including myself returning to posting, so we will see were we go from here.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: James Sinclair

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Saracen has crossed the border into Romulan space (against the orders of the Romulans) and has engaged three Romulan Warbirds and several marauders in their effort to try and save / investigate the target of those entities… a solitary Federation flagged vessel on the run.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Luke Hung has done an excellent job of staying engaged and asking very good question through his role as Chief Science Officer.

FComm’s Comments: Generally speaking for September the Saracen has been shaky, with many LOA’s and AWOL’s plus a general sluggish atmosphere. That being said, I’m hopeful for October given the uptick in posting I’ve seen in the last few days and I’m hoping that the command staff and crew will keep up the momentum.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Matt Bongiorno

How is your ship looking overall? I took over as the CO of the Sentinel during the second week of September and the ship is off to a strong start. There were 650+ posts this past month which points to the dedication and commitment of the crew as a whole. The goal is to carry this momentum into the month of October and beyond. The roster has doubled in size and currently stands at 14 crew members total. The Department Head openings have been filled with following two internal promotions: Nathan Derricutt (Chief Engineer) and Kieron Hoult (Chief of Security). Externally we brought in Trinity Fister as our Chief Medical Officer. Jennifer Ward (Yeoman Department Head) and Brian Richards (Head Nurse) returned to the Sentinel. We had the following writers join as Junior Officers: Adrien Jouve (Medical), Yvonne Sephiran (Security), Riley (Helmsman), David Stiles (Navigator), Sam Pennington (Science), and Abigail G (Engineering & Communications). Every member on board has demonstrated quality writing and I feel privileged to have each of them as part of the crew. Nathan and Brian are currently AWOL, but due to legitimate real life reasons. I look forward to seeing both of them return at some point this month. We have kicked off the Main Sim with a bang and have a multitude of Side Sims running as the Sentinel begins to move forward towards a bright future.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I do not have a favorite post on the ship this month. The reason being that there are an abundance of fantastic posts from various writers and it is honestly to close to call. However, one that stood out was the following: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/sentinel/posts/153470/ The reason I like this one is because of the incorporation of NE’s in the writing. That definitely takes creativity to a high level and is beautiful to read.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I plan to have my character have one on one interactions with every Department Head and Junior Officer in the month of October. Recruiting is always crucial to any ship, but member retainment will keep the Sentinel alive and well. Therefore, I plan to focus on interactions with the crew and developing relationships in character with each of them while easing back slightly on recruitment.

Executive Officer: Nicole Cline

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The main sim is starting slow, but activity has been doing well. DHs have also been participating in side Sims as much as real life allows.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The JOs have been fantastic! We are still getting the main sim up and running however the JOs have been keeping busy with side sims!

Who is the shining star this month? I want to give a shout-out to Abigail G and her engineer/Comms officer Kovan! She’s been active consistently and Kovan is an awesome character!

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Sentinel is doing amazing this past month, we’ve rebooted to 2253, and the new sim just began, with the Sentinel being sent to explore the mysterious Abyss region near Federation space

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: The Sentinel is really doing very well this month. Matt has come aboard as her new CO and really had an impressive month with recruiting and getting the roster filled. Nicole has been engaging the new officers and helping to create more than just a sim but an in depth world for the crew, full on nuances and detail. The crew both new and old are really doing incredible with engaging in side sims and character development and delving into the TOS world. We are excited to see where Matt, Nicole, and Rob take the Sentinel in the coming months

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? Viking is doing well this month. The main sim has moved forward significantly with lots of places for the crew to get involved. Side sims are picking up as well and engagement is increasing.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? We have a new CoS Lt Issac Forgrave (William Deaton) on board and he’s in his session with our amazing CNS Cmdr Janusz Korczak (James Sinclair). This is just a wonderful example of taking those annoying but necessary initial posts and really diving into character development and outstanding writing. Well done for both of them!
https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/153582/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We are still having a few AWOLs that quickly correct themselves once reminders are sent out, but for next month I would really like to see enough engagement that even if it is more comfortable to be on the long end of the posting limits, there are no AWOLs.

Executive Officer: Jason Wolfe

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Viking has had her fair share of hiccups this month, both in the main sim and available side sims. Most of the department heads are active, and the remaining stragglers have been addressed. The Viking overall is still struggling with its new and refurbished place in the fleet, and that has played a part in its current plight. Now that the main sim is underway, I am hopeful that posting rates will improve. I would definitely like to see us all pull together in the forms of a consistent, reliable posting pace and involved narratives that we might encourage plot progression.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Our only current junior officer is likewise struggling in finding her footing with the available sims, but I’m hopeful that as the main sim continues to gain traction and the department heads set a good example it will trickle down to our junior crewmen as well.

Who is the shining star this month? Sam Haynes has been incredibly active this month as he explores the depths of his character, Marcus Woods. When not helping the main sim along he has been cranking out side sim posts in order to bring new facets of his character to life. Great work, Sam!

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: : The crew of the Viking have now interacted with the “Lord” Hab’rabi of the cyro-ship who’s name roughly translates to Haven or Heaven. The ship has been traveling for hundreds of years away from a dying planet. The “Lord” seems friendly enough but who knows. The Viking has used a power beam to recharge the ships batteries and seem to be discussing a transfer of 3 liters of anti-matter. Likewise the XO seems to be very concerned about the nature of this first contact and the behavior of a couple of the crew who seem to be taking this situation very causally.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Jason Wolfe, who ‘paranoia’ might just be right… what do they say, “Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.”

FComm’s Comments: I’m pleased with the progression of the Viking throughout September, crew is engaged and performing well, the command staff are working hard and diligently on top of AWOL notices when necessary. I know there has been talk of Covid burnout throughout the club and am thankful that the Viking is trending positively.
