The Meridian Fleet Report - November 2021

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The crew seems active so there are no concerns there. They are not to many side sims going right now, but that happens. The holidays are about to come up so most ships seem to lose some tractions.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The Olinski seems healthy and active. Everyone appears to be enjoying themselves. The CO and GM did not submit a report for this month, but with the holidays we are not concerned.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?November was a slower month for Chernov with a handful of sporadic LOAs and AWOLs given the holidays and RL. That said, our DH team has done a wonderful job of staying active. Props to Kieron and Hjortur, who are major proponents of furthering the MainSIM.

P.S. We’re still searching for a GM. (We have cookies!)

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We lost a crew member to RL (wishing them the best!), but November has been otherwise a good month. Chernov saw a boost in JO involevement in the Main and SideSIMs, but I’m hoping to engage a few more by January. Keep up the great work!

Who is the shining star this month? We’ve got more of a “shinning constellation” than a star this month. A big thank you to the crew! Y’all are amazing.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: CO exempt for LOA. Still No GM at this time. As we all know our GM department is stretched thin, but has been actively looking for a good fit for Chernov. However now at the end of the term Brian and I would really like to say how impressed we are by the command team and crew of Chernov for keeping on, all on their own. Their stories and characterizations are just outstanding and they have done a wonderful job of being a community.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: It is concerning that no one from Odin submitted a report this month, even after an email reminder went out. However Oden seems to be doing very well despite the horrible events of the past year, and we hope to see them continue to be a strong crew and community and continue their amazing story telling.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: James Sinclair

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Saracen has intercepted a distress call from a Federation ship trying to flee Romulan space. As the ship went to investigate, they found marauders attacking the vessel. Before they could assist, the Romulans arrived and there was more than a bit of confusion on which side anyone but the Saracen was on. Communications are problematic with the escaping vessel, and to add to the stress, one of the Romulan ships was blown apart… in an explosion far too powerful for a single ship. A Romulan Admiral has asked for an in person meeting on the Saracen, and the crew must now try and figure out just what in the blazes is going on.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? The entire crew has been solid in moving things forward. Its been a bit slow on the GM end of things at times, but the ship has been responsive more often than not.

AFComm’s Comments: The sim on Saracen is going well and the promise of twists and turns to come. Now with an active GM and command crew she seems to be back to where she was at the last Presidential change. The year has been rough for everyone and Brian and I are very happy to say that Saracen is still moving strong.

CO - not excused, XO - excused for health and real life

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Matt Bongiorno

How is your ship looking overall? For entering the holiday season, the Sentinel is looking solid overall. Member LoAs are understandable during this time of year, but I encouraged the crew to keep in communication with the leadership team on LoAs so that we know what is going on with them going forward. It is best practice to put in a LoA as opposed to going AWOL. We are continuing our main sim as we begin to explore our first planets with our landing parties and ship crew. The Main Sim has been going well we plan to continue to push forward in the month of December.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? My favorite post is the main sim because this is the dawn of our crew forming chemistry, trust, and various instances can help serve as foundations for character relationships or developments going forward. It will be wonderful to see what directions all of characters go in on a developmental standpoint at the conclusion of the first main sim.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I would like to add a new member to the crew this upcoming month and continue to drive engagement through crew interactions.

Executive Officer: Nicole Cline

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DHs are active in the main sim. I would like to see more side sim activity however awols have not been a problem so I think overall all is well.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?JOs have been active in both main and side Sims and are doing quite well. There have been a few awols, but they usually clear quickly.

Who is the shining star this month? David as E’usah always seems very enthusiastic, I love it! He is often involved in side sims of all kinds and is also in the main sim!

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Sentinel is breaking up into four teams, the three landing party is going to the alien planet in disguise to look for information up close and personal on the planet’s culture and to look for clues on the brief warp blip they picked up. While the fourth group on the ship is studying the Abyss in more detail and how they got lost.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: Sentinel is our shinning star this month. So much activity going on and though some expected LOAs for the holidays and the year end things that get us all, there are no AWOLs. Matt is doing a great job as her CO and Nicole continues to impress as her XO. And of course Roach has an amazing sim that is keeping the whole crew engaged.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? The Viking had some bumps and a considerable slowing early in the month. But with the end of November the crew is very engaged in sims across the board. However despite the slowing there has only been one AWOL that has worked itself out. We have taken on a new CMO and two new JOs. Jason and I are very excited to see how they add to our dynamic.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Luke stepped down as GM this month, but Jason and I have decided to continue the sim and allow the crew to finish out the sim rather than just ending it. They have been plugging away at it for over a year and we feel they deserve to finish it. In that vein the crew has stepped up to make that happen. This post ( https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/158918/ ) by Lt Markus Woods CSO, played by Sam Haynes, was just outstanding.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I really don’t have an improvement in mind for December, rather I would like to see the engagement and activity that appeared in the last week of November to continue throughout December and the holidays.

Executive Officer: Jason Wolfe

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Despite the holiday slow-down and a squeaky AWOL here and there, all department heads are active and participating in all current and relevant sims! While we do anticipate that things will slow down even further the closer we get to the new year, folks are excited and engaged with both our sims and getting our junior officers situated.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?As we’ve recently acquired two new junior officers, it’s a bit early to determine their activity. They have been dipping their toes into our ship’s waters, and although they’ve got some rough edges that should have been polished out in the Academy our team has them well in-hand. We’re very excited to have them aboard and look forward to seeing what they’re capable of!

Who is the shining star this month? It may be a bit of a cliche, but it is nonetheless true to say that everyone taking part in the sims aboard the Viking deserves a little time in the spotlight. In the last month I have seen more activity and fewer AWOLs than I have since I joined as executive officer. People are not only engaged in-sim but discussing plot points and next steps outside of the STF boards as well! Our team is coming together, and it’s a sight to see!

Jennifer has been hard at work running two characters in order to ensure that missing positions are still accounted for in-sim. She’s been very supportive of her fellow writers and seems quite dedicated to finding something for everyone to do so that no one is left twiddling their thumbs. After all, a captain’s job is to keep everyone on their feet! Hjortur has been a steady source of contribution despite the fact that his character is locked away in the Viking’s brig! (Don’t ask; wasn’t his fault.) He’s a great example of how a writer can continue to develop their character personally even if overall participation is hampered for story reasons. James has a gift for packing descriptive punch in concise phrasing, and has given a lot of thought and effort to inspire his fellow writers to develop their own characters through interaction.

Despite having some real-world struggles, Brian has still managed to keep pace with the rest of the group and has been inspirational to work with behind-the-scenes to add some extra umph to the posting environment. Nicole is still relatively new to the Viking but has really managed to dig in to her place in the plot, an interest that is reflected in her writing. William has really come into his own as part of the team. His commitment to character development is a great example of how much more there is to writing on STF than just what’s happening “on-screen.”

Sam has shown some tenacity when it comes to getting to the heart of the sim, asking thoughtful questions and pulling her fellow writers in for some much-needed teamwork. Undaunted by a hammering of real-life issues, Melissa has continued to work with her team to fill in where it’s needed in order to keep the sim moving. Both Tom and Bob are still pretty fresh, but they’ve infused the team with some eager energy and I look forward to seeing how they develop their own voices.

Overall, the entire team has really come together lately and I’m very proud of everyone’s energy and commitment to pushing through on a sim that’s had some pretty serious shake-ups. It’s a team I’m enjoying writing with and that keeps me checking for new posts. Well done, everyone!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The Viking lost her GM this month, but the crew seems undaunted and determined to find the cause for all the strange happenings on board. Jason was promoted to full Cmdr this month. He’s doing an excellent job. And as his report says the crew it self is outstanding and pulling together creating new lore for the no longer haunted ship.
