The Meridian Fleet Report - March 2022

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?I’ve been doing some roster warnings as a few of my key characters have gone a bit AWOL. I’ve put D in the hidden line, she’ll be back but she’s dealing with some RL. The sim has ended so some of the drive has gone out of the crew. We need to pick up some side simming and hopefully the new sim is coming down the pike. Thanks to Kenson for a wonder experience....’and many more’ in Luke’s off key sing song voice.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Olinski had encountered some Breen fighters attacking a large never been seen before Tholian ship. The Tholians were in trouble and the Olinski decided to help them out, in so doing, the Breen implied that the Federation had declared war on the Breen. After speaking with the Tholians, the Federation and Tholians decided to have a temporary alliance to repel a Breen force detected to be heading towards Federation space.

The Tholian-Starfleet ships defeat the Breen and captured some of the Breen forces, which turns out to be Xindi reptiles in disguise. The Olinski had then been tasked to go monitor the activities near the Delphic Expanse.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: Not sure why no CO report. ((See final notes))

Olinski seems to be doing all right for now. The last sim ended in a surprise not and during down time the crew is wondering if that will carry to next sim… Hehehe

During down time the CO and XO are going we can get some great character building side Sims going.

Will be working with CO to discuss goals as well as report submission issues.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: Travis Good

How is your ship looking overall? The Chernov is looking very well overall! We have a good team of people and we are getting ready to do our Main SIM as soon as I get the paperwork over.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I don’t have a favorite post this month. We have all done well to not only improve our ship IC but OOC as well. We are working hard to keep our ship our ship and the Chernov means a lot to us all. Kudos to the whole team!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Get more JO’s.

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We had a few LOAs and AWOLs throughout the month, myself included, largely due to a shift in the shipwide SIM and ever-present demands of the real world. Otherwise, March was a wonderful month for our DH team! We saw considerable involvement in new SideSIMs, which has made for a more colourful board. Next month, I’d like to focus on getting DHs involved in the shipwide SIM.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’ve seen fluctuations in JO posting throughout the month but, for the most part, they’ve stayed within AWOL limits and continue to amaze us with their creativity. There are a few consistent AWOLs that I would like to address in April. We are too always open to new JOs (including officers and enlisted characters!), so feel free to reach out to Travis or me if you’re interested!

Who is the shining star this month? My health and school took me away from STF consistently throughout March, so I don’t feel that I have enough to pick out one “shining star” for March. I would, however, like shout out to our crew for their patience and boundless energy as we continue to rebuild (and redefine) the Chernov!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The ship passed its 90 day review and things are in work to make it a self sim ship.

This month we’ll focus on that source in regards to charter adjustment and getting into a groove of steady posting with self sim environment.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: David Shotton

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Odin is still looking for a CSO and CE, and with our CMO being away on LOA the ship has been very quiet as RL takes it’s toll on people. Kenson’s sim is great, but has stalled slightly as people haven’t been able to reply as quickly as we would like.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Odin has JO spots available in all Departments

Who is the shining star this month? Kenson, our GM takes the shining star sticker this month. He has kept the Sim alive and plugged away where he can, just a fantastic GM to have with us. Thank you Kenson.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Odin as been sent to help in a crisis on Tammoron, the producer of Tammoron grain, a food source. There are three factions and they are at odds with each other regarding how the grain should be traded. The Odin has just discovered a spy satellite that provides certain clues. The clues show that there are dealings behind the scenes and that Diana, the de facto leader of one of the factions might be a key person to resolve the crisis.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: Unsure why no CO report ((see main notes))

Working this month to fill DH positions and get sim back on more active track.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: David Shotton

How is your ship looking overall? The Saracen has been quiet as our GM has been on an extended LOA and has just recently returned, at the same time we have recently had our XO come back from his own LOA. So while the ship has been quiet admittedly, I had no concern as with other crew on LOA who were dealing with issues more important than this hobby I was happy to await their return. Now that they have largely returned, I am confident the Saracen will again pick up the pace and our stories will again start to fill the pages.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? It appears the CMO has advised the Captain to give the XO and his re-found love some time for R&R on vacation. Will the Captain agree? Will the CMO wrangle the entire ship to have shore leave? Time will tell.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.A little more activity with the main sim and side sims now that people are beginning to post again.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: XO and GM were LOAs for the month (or more than most) so excused from reports. ((See main notes))

Will help the ship get back on track this month and up and running again. Encouraging side Sims during down time will be encouraged as well.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Nicole Cline

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DHs are doing well, though we have a few LoAs. Participation in the main sim is good, and we have a fun side sim in the medical department.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The JOs look good, a few LoAs but good main sim and side sim participation. Abigail’s Ensign Ch’sirhc’s annoyance with XO Alden has been a fun thread. Hjortur’s Karl was very excited to go space walking in the main sim.

We are currently recruiting for all departments.

Who is the shining star this month? Adrien Jouve with Alwyn Yarwood, and Yarwood’s great excitement with an alien race in the Sentinel’s main sim.

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Oh boy where to start!

So the sentinel landing parties are now down to two groups. One nears a strange cave near Valiki, and the other just now entering the Village Of Barovia proper. Aboard the ship the main action is happening with one of the engineering team doing an EVA walk on the ship’s hull where they are looking for the cause of a power drain.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: Unsure why no CO report ((see main notes))

Will help where needed this month. Going to encourage more side simming when main sim slows, as well.

Ship is doing all right overall.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? Viking is looking good. We are still approved by GMDir to continue and finish out our last sim and then will be moving toward self sim. Jason and I have been discussing possible ideas going forward. But for now the we and the crew are enjoying the story that Jason has taken the reigns of. There are so many twists and turns that I’m not sure anyone can guess what will happen next!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? This is a lovely side sim started by our new science JO Tom Little. Most of our JOs (rostered and extras) have joined and are getting to know one another. It reminds me of the TNG episode “Lower Decks”. There is a lot of great characterization going on in this thread.

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/169220/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We are still looking for JOs in all departments, and always looking for new or current members who are interested in joining us or want another character. With current members stretched thin and many ships needing more crew it is a slow process but we are making progress. Moving forward it’s not really an improvement but we will be moving to self-sim and Jason and I are working on getting the ship and crew ready for that transition.

Executive Officer: Jason Wolfe

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Sad to say, we’ve really struggled this month in regards to department heads being active and participating this month. Whether this has to do with struggles in the sim or personal issues outside the club has not been communicated, indeed another current failing. Jennifer and I are attempting to address and resolve these issues to the best of our ability, and we’re hoping to be back on-track in the coming weeks.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Similar to our situation with our department heads, our junior officers also seem to be struggling with participation this month. We believe that some of it has to do with some joining so late in the main sim that they aren’t sure of what to do or how to progress, and lack of communication between parties has compounded this issue. They are participating in side sims beautifully which gives us hope as to their level of commitment to the Viking. I can only hope that they will find their footing in the coming weeks.

Who is the shining star this month? Jennifer Ward has been working very hard to keep the Viking up and running despite her busy life, and has proven very interested in the main sim and the workings of the crew. Her curiosity and ideas have helped things move along, and Captain Rende Asam and Sharah Fayth are both developing wonderfully as characters. Great job, Jen!

William Deaton has also found a great balance between a hectic real-life schedule and posting to the Viking. While he has struggled off and on with AWOLs due to his personal endeavors, I feel that his time and attention to Isaac Forgrave’s development and role in the main sim more than makes up for his absence. This is a perfect example of thoughtful, well-executed collaborative writing—of making your post count with content and context, rather than just one-liners. Kudos to you, Will!

Gamemaster: Jennifer Ward

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: ● [Cargo Bay Two]: Shell Game— In a move to bait the energy beings into revealing themselves, Commander Kohr has moved the anitmatter prepared for the Valh’kaeri to a more secure location and set up a containment field. After the meeting with Captain Rende, he and his team are now readying themselves to take a shuttle over to the colony ship in search of answers; the captain, however, has put that trip on pause while she sorts things out with her command staff. Paranoia and doubt, it seems, have given the Viking crew quite a shake… or is it intuition helping them to see things they hadn’t considered?

● [Sickbay]: Feints and Subtleties— After being sent sprawling by the side-effects of the static warp field and rendered unconscious, Lord Hab’rabi is once again awake. Though bearing a strong face, the alien’s experiences in recent hours have begun to take their toll on him in ways not even he is consciously aware of. What secrets could the alien lord be holding onto? What dangers?

● [Deck 8]: Chaos and Reason— After a bit of leg work the self-proclaimed Team Asam has scanned all the malfunctioning bulkheads across the ship and is putting their findings together. A bit of mystery still surrounds the reasoning behind the malfunctions, but there is hope for an answer on the horizon. Was it completely an accident, or was there a method to the madness? What could that mean for the Viking and her crew, and for Lord Hab’rabi’s colony ship? (Please note that this thread is currently several hours behind the present timeline in other threads, and that events here cannot drastically alter the course of the story. It is purely intended for information purposes.)

● [Engineering]: Ghosts in the Machine— After struggling with the task assigned to him, Ensign Caelian Weir is closing in on a solution to tracking and containing the strange energy beings running rampant. While still firmly in the realm of theory, the young engineer is nevertheless heartened by his latest simulations. Now all that’s left to do is to put it with the rest of the puzzle pieces scattered about the crew. Will a broader picture form of what’s truly going on? Or will the Viking team end up with more questions than answers?

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? William Deaton as Lt Issac Forgrave, CoS. He has been running all over the ship looking for clues, stopping intruders, interrogating suspects, and now part of a rescue mission, or is it demolition? Who knows?

FComm’s Comments: Viking was recently approved to be self sim. With there being no need for charter, current sim will be finished then so will officially be self sim.

Will be assisting where needed to help bring post counts up and help fill vacancies.

Ship being handled well, overall. CO and XO are keeping up on LOAs and AWOLs pretty good. Whole site suffering. So I’m pretty impressed with what they’ve accomplished.

Overall, the Fleet is suffering from severe LOAs and AWOLs. Will be getting on COs and XOs this month.

As to missing reports, this is becoming an issue and all COs have received email reminders that Ship Reports are a necessary part of their responsibilities. I’ll be sitting with each CO to remind them, find it what’s going on, and try and discover how to get reports in in a timely manner.

The same will be done with XOs and GMs. Emails, reminders and sit down. There are definitely some positions in jeopardy.

Also following up this month to see about filling DH positions thru recruiting from outside it promoting from within. I’d rather see a lack of JOs than missing DHs.

APRIL AWARDS
Viking is named ship of the month for outstanding perceverance in face of GM loss.
Chernov CO, Falcon*”, is named writer of the month. Through RP and ooc actions, he’s saved his ship and kept it from being decommissioned.
Kensen Koh is GM of the month. This new SIM on the Odin seems well thought out and crew seems excited. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
The writer of the month is
William Deaton on the Viking whose character, Isaac Forgraves, had been shining through despite RL issues.

Well done everyone…

End of report
