Starfleet Academy Report - March 2022
USS Challenger
Commanding Officer: David Shotton
How is your ship looking overall? The Challenger had an active March and saw some great writing from our new cadets. David Shaw has taken to STF quickly and shown great creativity and a willingness to get involved in posts, and our latest Cadet to graduate, Mason Marcy is just about to complete his graduation thread.
With our last Sim coming to a close we await our new Sim to begin as a few admin details are sorted out, but Geoff does a great job as Academy GM and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with for us next.
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Kate O’Neill was heavily involved with our new cadets getting them active and giving them places to post. One of the threads was a simple meet n greet over food in the lounge, which quickly turned into a slight contest over drinks in regards to what medical oopsies the ships Doctors had had happen. While the ships CO was sitting there listening. The thread has some fantastic writing and creative stories, and is an excellent read.
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Getting everyone a little more involved in side sims would be the main focus, especially to help keep everyone involved and active.
Executive Officer: Steve Johnson
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DH’s have been doing okay. With the end of the simm coming up, things have started to slow down, which has caused some of the posting to slip. Hopefully with that wrapping up, it’ll give them all something more to do.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? It’s been a bit slow with the Cadets this past month. It started a bit slow with only one Cadet, but we’ve been adding quite a few since then. A couple of them have started posting and it will hopefully keep things going.
Who is the shining star this month? David Shaw. He came in like a storm and has really blown us all away.

FComm’s Comments: I was only just recently appointed as Academy Commandant, so I’m still getting up to speed, but so far things are looking good on the Challenger. Congrats to Mason for graduating! I would have liked to have seen a GM report as the sim was still going in March (it just ended in early April), but no reminders were sent out by me due to the timing of my appointment, so I’ll excuse Geoff this month :P

Additional Academy Commandant comments:
I was just appointed in March as Commandant, so I’m still getting up to speed on the current status of the Academy. In the time I have, I hope to start focusing on the Academy’s non-fleet work, as our one ship is in capable hands and has very excellent supervision :)
To that end, in April and May I plan (hope?) to make some changes in the Academy including:
1) Eliminating the AFLO position
2) Creation of a new Course Supervisor position (in fact, as of this report, a discussion has just started in the Academy you can join in on )
3) Resume an older Command discussion in the Academy about the goal of our courses, etc
4) Resume an earlier Academy discussion about changes we can make to improve the Academy ship experience (with specific attention around some issues that have cropped up regarding the three-month problem).
We’ll see how far I get with all of that :)
Thanks, Rob, for the appointment.
