The Pioneer Fleet Report - April 2022

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The Athena has a couple of AWOLs that will need to be addressed this month. Katy is set to become the new GMT of the Athena upon Riley’s final approval. I look forward to seeing what she does with the ship and will have a great mentor in Sam Pennington. The CO, XO, and GM all did not submit their fleet reports this month which is a concern. I will reach out to the Athena leadership team to follow up with them on their status going forward.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

How is your ship looking overall? The Atlantis is doing amazing because of all the fabulous writers devoting their time, energy, and creativity to the main sim, character development, and side sim stories. The main sim is now divided into two parts. One has the XO in command on the bridge and the other has an away team with the Captian on Base Five. I for one am hoping the brilliant tactical genius that is Gene Gibbs, is working on a way to say the ever perky Kate from having her Captain incarcerated in an alien jail. I mean the Darkness is coming and on a collision course with the Altantis and Base Five and no, the Darkness is not code for Kelly not having coffee. It is a large alien ship that seems to be undefeatable.

There are several side sims that are going well letting us see glimpses of characters spotlighted in their specific fields of study.

We have had a boon of new crew and I am very excited to see how their characters settle into life on the Atlantis.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Oh lord, where do I begin? I can honestly say there is not a single post that stands out because there is something amazing and exciting in each of them. We have several new crew. This is so exciting because you are getting a first-hand look at new characters or characters that are returning but with different experiences and backstories. How is someone supposed to choose between Cara’s or Luke’s counseling threads when each one brings out or is starting to bring out the intricacies that make a character so dynamic? How does one pick when you have five different arrival stories that all start with a different perspective or point of view? How does one pick one DH over another when the DH is working so hard to create a space that allows another writer to express their creativity and supports them with every reply. The answer is you don’t. You get a cup of coffee, fluff your pillow, and read each like pages of a novel. Then for me as a captain want to reach out to everyone writing and say thank you for making the ship a fabulous place to be a part of.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I want to make sure everyone has a place to post that they want to and are inspired to reply to. Too often I think we forget to reach out and say “hey what do YOU want to write about.” I feel like at times we create threads or stories we think people will love but everyone’s tastes and interests are different. My goal is to focus on my crew and make sure I am targeting something that will spotlight their creative skills.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Well we are back. Things have picked up, with I must say is thanks to the good CO for running point as I was getting myself sorted out. Apart from the main sim happening there are a number of threads happening including an upcoming wedding. With a spurt of new crew that is bolstering the roster in a robust fashion new threads are cropping up like dandelions in my spring yard.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The ship seems a ship of specialists however our one JO in science and engineering is holding their own

Who is the shining star this month? Kate. I don’t know what sacrifices of how many squirrels to the hamster god to appease the feline emissaries she did but the roster has not looked better in a long time and I just managing to hang on to her shirttails as she careens ahead.

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Both the sim and the side sims are moving well. The Atlantis has returned to the scene of the crime and are about to get an offer they can’t refuse. Perhaps for the first time in weeks there might be a (clue redacted) that could be the solution to so many of their problems.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: The Atlantis has had a few additions to their crew and is mostly active aside from one JO that is AWOL. Their main sim is moving forward and the leadership team appears to all be on the same page. The activity is solid and I have no concerns currently for the Atlantis. The ship is running smoothy and it is nice to see that the crew is enjoying their time there. I look forward to seeing continued success in May.

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

How is your ship looking overall? Overall, we are okay. We need to fill some key positions on the ship (which I am working on), namely the XO and CMO, but we need some JOs as well as I think that will help by simply creating more posting opportunities for everyone involved.

I have to hand it to Kirt though, he’s shown patience and understanding with my staffing issues and it’s got to be frustrating (I’m frustrated, so I’m sure he is) and we’ve worked well to drive the simm forward a bit more. It could be better with some more people on the roster that will spur some more regular posting.

I have some very high quality people on my roster, but it’s hard to post when it feels like you are the only one in a thread, so I get that and that’s why I think the best course of action in the coming month is to focus on recruitment as that leads to more frequent posting on the whole.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. My focus is going to be on filling the very key position of XO, I am working with my Fleet Commander to accomplish just that. After that, I can look at getting the CMO position filled and 2-3 more JOs to bulk things out.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: The Chimera is recovering from losing their previous XO and have acquired a new XO in Jason. There are a few AWOLs that need to be addressed, but Kat is working on those now. They still need to fill their Chief Medical Officer position and bulk up a little in recruiting. I look forward to seeing what their GMT Kirt brings to the Chimera. He is full of great ideas and it will be a joy to see where the Chimera goes in May!

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Calé Reilly

How is your ship looking overall? Overall the owie isn’t doing too bad. We have some members needing to post and a couple LOAs but on the whole people are posting and things are moving along. The main sim is progressing and there are some great character development side sims on the go which I’m excited about.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I really do t like this question it’s so hard to choose every month. I’ve really enjoyed the thread with Jenn and Jane’s characters and the amazing cross ship/fleet thread going on with River and Abigail and of course the great work happening with others, Linds, Amber, Matt to name a few. I especially have enjoyed the Nick’s character Oscar across the main sim threads too.

Obviously who can forget Geoff our GM who is keeping us all on our toes!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We still have two JO spots to fill which I would like to do and continue our main sim to its conclusion over the next few weeks.

Executive Officer: Lindsay B

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We have had one change in the DH ranks with Nick sliding into the CE role. While posting has bene up and down the last month, most DHs are actively helping to move the sim along and most are engaged in at least one side sim.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Much like the DHs, our JOs have been up and down with some more active than others. We’ve dealt with some more AWOLs here but things overall have levelled out. Calé and I are both in better positions than we were earlier so are generally able to engage with the crew more.

We still need a Head Nurse, so if you’re interested, let us know!

Who is the shining star this month? Jenn has been really helping drive the sim and doing her best to keep busy on the side as well. I really appreciate her efforts here.

I also want to spotlight the thread between River and Abagail G, our guest poster. Their letters back and forth between their ships have been lovely to read.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: There are a few AWOLs that need to be addressed on the Ogawa going into May. The GM is on an LoA at the moment so is excused from the report this month. There has been solid activity despite the GM being out though which is good to keep the crew engaged during this time. I look forward to reviewing the ship’s progress in the month of May as their new FComm!
