Starfleet Academy Report - April 2022
Commanding Officer: David Shotton
How is your ship looking overall? April was a really great month for the Challenger. This month we saw the graduations of Mason Marcy and David Shaw, with David stepping into the Chief Engineer position after writing amazingly during his time on board. We also thank Geoff Joosten for his time as the Academy GM, as he has stepped aside and we now have Lindsay Bayes weaving her magic on our ship for our Cadets. Thank you so much for the time and effort you gave us Geoff, we really appreciate it, and welcome Linds! I hear it’s her first stint ever as an Academy GM! I’m sure the Cadets will go easy on you haha!
The month was also highly active for having many Cadets join us, although quite a few never posted. Nevertheless we have some great writing talent with Allen B, Christopher Huskins and Shaun Tee being extremely active and keen with their writing. It’s been a real pleasure to write with them and watch them learn how STF works.
We do have a vacancy for ships Counselor for the Academy Ship, and are looking for an energetic, dedicated and mentor friendly writer to fill this Command slot. If you are interested, please have a chat to myself or Steve J. Our contact forms are accessible through the MOTD and you can also contact me via Discord, you’ll find me as Keivar there.
Oh, and our amazing group of Cadets managed 255 posts in April. Go you good things you!
What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Our new Academy Sim takes off with a game of Spin-the-Bottle and an anomaly that sucks in NE’s, good times!
Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. The end of April hit several of us pretty hard with RL and we had some LOA’s and a few AWOL crop up, as they do from time to time. The Command team needs to keep an eye on it however to make sure we don’t get bogged down.
Executive Officer: Steve Johnson
How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? With the last sim ending, things slowed down a little bit. But with Linds having joined us, the DH’s are getting back into posting. 3 of the 4 are recent Challenger graduates so they aren’t as practiced in self entertaining as the rest of us. Working with them to come up with side simm ideas to keep them entertained and posting, so there are no issues posting new members in the future.
How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The cadets have been doing great! They are very active, and are keeping the simm moving right along. David and I are keeping an eye on them so we can do grad evals as appropriate.
Who is the shining star this month?
Gamemaster: No report submitted
ACmdt’s Comments: GM report excused as Lindsay joined as the GM at the end of April.
No issues with the Challenger for the month of April. We do need a Counselor for the Challenger - which is important for the cadet mentorship and DH support - but I know David is looking. Congratulations to the April graduates!
Academy Commandant Report
April was a bit of a slow month for the Academy outside of the Challenger. I’m hoping to finish addressing the course support position for the later half of May and then getting to the “what are we doing with the courses?” discussion in June (which now may happen in Command).
