The Pioneer Fleet Report - February 2023

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Tony Findora

How is your ship looking overall? Overall things are looking up. Senior staff are currently aboard the strange ship that we are investigating. JO’s are jumping in when they can but we do have some folks AWOL. Those are being addressed and getting an expected return date soon.

As I am now a bit more integrated at my job, I’m finding it a bit easier to squeeze in time for posting, so my hope is that this month will see my schedule be more consistent than it has been for some time.

Thank you to all who have been patient with me!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The dynamic aboard the strange ship is fascinating! Love the interactions and their getting down to business to find out what the heck is going on. And it’s left Faye in the position of aXO while most of the senior staff are away.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Just overall posting for the JOs. Getting them more involved will likely be a priority. We have some plans that will kick off for some, but it’s all still to be revealed.

Executive Officer: Sam Haynes

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Uh, yeah. Pretty much all my DH’s are aboard the Away mission, and actively engaged. But this also gives our JO’s a chance to shine with some bridge duty.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? For the most part. There’s room for improvement.

Who is the shining star this month? It’s been pretty steady all around so there’s not any particular person that sticks out.

Gamemaster: Sage Pennington

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The USS Athena encountered a strangely designed, but definitely Starfleet ship as it emerged from a temporal anomaly. The crew was immediately observed to be absent, and an away team has been sent to investigate.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Both James Sinclair and Sam Haynes have done a bunch to advance the story pretty rapidly.

AFComm’s Comments: A little too many AWOLs for comfort, but Tony and Sam are in contact with them. The board appears active with both main and side sims, so it doesn’t appear that the sim has been greatly affected.

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is doing well with the crew involved in character development side sims, the main sim, or both. The stories are fun and interesting covering the interest gambit from combat to romance.

The main sim has Kelly and Tenzig trying to figure out if the reverse radiation on the piece of debris can be the hottest new item at IFEA and make them bank while the tricorder analyzes it for more practical purposes: Like was it the cause of the Federation ship being lost. Regardless of the answers they find, Kelly’s crow’s feet are slowly slipping away and that is not a bad thing. Tenzig should take a few more steps back or he could look even younger than he is without Q’s help.

The team on the ground is deciding how the sentient form of the Darkness that built the station might look or move. Walking Octopi were discussed but ruled out.

The side sim battle of the promenade has resulted in one alien’s death, the disappearance of another alien, and a third being blown out of an airlock. Jessa will not be pleased but the crew saved the day and teens are such temperamental creatures.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? It has been a rough month for your old cappy so I am happy to have the chance to curl up with my cup of coffee and read the romance between the counselor and the Orion. Said that way it sounds like the start of a trilogy and I for one hope so. Jen and James have written a fun and entertaining piece that has me checking daily for a new installment. Keep it up, guys. I am really enjoying it. If you haven’t checked it out then do so. You won’t be disappointed.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Hand out mugs and shirts saying join the Atlantis.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Feb seemed to be a little sparse for posting , including with myself. As I noticed it everywhere I’m not putting it all on the ship, but I have noticed the slower posting paces. That being said, much of the crew is posting and finding a place to belong. We do have a couple of persistent MIA’s, however the majority of the ship complement is engaged somewhere, be it in the sim or side sims.

I’m in the midst of a building move at work and that is undertaking a fair bit of my attention. I’m hopeful that this will settle down in the next couple of months and I can do a deeper dive into the ship rather than skipping like a stone over the lake.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month? Kate’s multiple personalities is shining through here with her active in several places to help keep things going.

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Posting is getting back into the swing of things with most of the crew participating in the main sim or character development side sims.

Kelly and Tenzig have discovered the radiation coming off the piece of debris has a reversing effect compared to normal which mean things heal instead of decay in its presence. At the moment the small iota of reverse radiation is not beneficial but it is being analyzed further by the ships computer.

On the planet, the team is debating what sentient species ran the base and have discovered they are part of the Darkness via DNA.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Ray Branch and Gene Gibbs continue to shine in the side sim, pressing the story forward for those to reply.
While not a main sim, Nathan Derricutt has shown amazing depth and introspection of his character River Styxx. It was fun posting with him. I enjoyed it.
THINGS TO CHANGE.
Involve more of the crew in the main sim

AFComm’s Comments: A few AWOLs, but the sim is still progressing. Maybe they went too close to the radiation coming off the bulkhead. :)

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

How is your ship looking overall? We have a few straggling AWOLs that I’m addressing. Beyond that, everyone else has been pretty active, which is great.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I’m enjoying the interaction between the Marines and the regular Starfleet officers. The thread is truly a treat to read (https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/chimera/posts/203757/).

It’ll be interesting to see where they take this!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I’m in need of a CE, I may also have another DH vacancy coming up. I continue to email my way through the club in search of JOs as well, if anyone is interested in joining the fun they should definitely contact me. My security and marine departments are pretty full, but loads of room in science, engineering and medical!

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Kirt Gartner

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: This is a simplified packet of information about the current mission for the new crew that have joined in the middle of the said mission

The technology of primitive species planet HP-4960Z has been rapidly advancing too rapidly even having just started their version of the Industrial Revolution (Steam tech) and yet the species is also testing their first Jet Engines as well so the Federation sent a Primitive Species Observation team to investigate while disguised as the native species this team has disappeared now the Chimera has been sent to find the missing team Sensors are unable to locate the Specific life signs as something is blocking them so a Disguised Away team has been dispatched to the surface

The Planet is shrouded in Perpetual Twilight given the nature of the suns in the system though has more than enough Geo Thermal Energy to make up for the lack of sunlight

The away team has made contact with the local who the team established as a contact in case of disappearance the contact of course was not made aware of the team’s true nature and believes the Observation team and the Away party to be from another island then the away team investigated the Observation teams base and found out they had gone on a cover expedition and is not yet back then a series of events led the Away team to be captured by the Rebellion who is fighting for freedom from the Tyrannical High Commandant

the Rebellion has given the away team a ride to the High Commandants base and that is where we are at

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Keiron has been the only one contributing to the sim We are trying to push more people into posting as well we are in the final act just need to try and finish as strong as we can

AFComm’s Comments: Kat and Kerion are handling the AWOLs. The sim def looks interesting :)

The Chimera is looking for a CE and CMO, hit up Kat if you’re interested!

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: Lindsay B

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’re struggling to have everyone active all at the same time, so that has been slowing down both the main sim and side sims as well. We’ve lost our CE, so are on the hunt for a new one, and our COS has been tied up with the RL stuff and hopefully will be able to jump back in when she’s able.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Up and down here too in terms of activity, though we’ve had people jump back into the action who had been away or AWOL. I’m hoping we can fill in some JO spots in the departments other than medical to fill out the roster a bit so everything isn’t all on the DHs. But we welcomed back Matt with the former DH character and he’s jumped back in enthusiastically!

Who is the shining star this month? Everyone who is posting and keeping the ship going while we sort out things behind the scenes.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: Very large roster and a lot of activity on the board. Linds has done a great job with the Ogawa, while Cale is on LOA.

AFComm: A decline in report submissions and an increase in AWOLs. Ship commands have noted their AWOLs and are actively trying to remedy the situation. February might have been a tad slower than January, but kudos to everyone to holding their ships in one piece :)
