The Pioneer Fleet Report - April 2023

USS Athena

Commanding Officer: Tony Findora

How is your ship looking overall? Overall the Athena is looking ok. She’s been worse, but I am planning to do a more detailed look over and get in touch with various people as we chug along in the sim.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I’m not sure I can point to one specific point given how slow things have been. The main sim has been really interesting as we attempt to try and figure out the strange phenomenon that seems to have ensared the Athena and the future USS Shai!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Posting output. We have some folks on LOA and some who are currently AWOL. We are in the works of touching base and seeing what we can do to help.

Executive Officer: Sam Haynes

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DH’s are pretty much all on the Shai’s bridge with the away team. All are engaged in the main sim, and I believe side sims are coming along too.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? For the most part they are doing alright. One is fairly AWOL, which I think Tony and I will have to have a pow-wow about. The others probably just need a nudge.

Who is the shining star this month? James and Linds for their great writing, characterization, and thinking on their feet.

Special mention for Janice/Fallen - Despite the challenges of being back and forth with travel between State, she’s had a strong push to keeping on track despite this and the distractions there in.

Gamemaster: Sage Pennington

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The USS Athena is caught in some temporal phenomenon, bringing it into interaction with a ship from 400 years in its future.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? I… I don’t know who to pick. The Athena is the dream team for me. This crew is so responsive and engaged, they really make me enjoy being a GM.

FComm’s Comments: The Athena has some AWOLS, but Tony & Sam are actively trying to fix that. Despite that, the Athena had over 80 posts for April :)

USS Atlantis

Commanding Officer: Kate O’Neill

How is your ship looking overall? The ship has some AWOL’s and LOA’s but they are being addressed. This month the ship had fewer posts than March with 92 for the month. I am working with the crew to help find things that are interesting for them to post to and create new posts that inspire them to write.

The main sim is moving along nicely with the away team finally being able to access the alien outpost on the planet and Kelly doing a deep dive into historical records on the ship. They have gotten a clue about the strange radiation but also a warning that any questions about the radiation are locked in a need-to-know file which Starfleet thinks Kelly does not need to know.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I have really enjoyed writing with Ingi and his CIO character. It is always a fun and exciting surprise to read and write with him.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Less AWOLs and more recruiting. There is a two-for-one special so bring a friend and join up.

Executive Officer: Gene Gibbs

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Activity is picking up with more involvement. It is principally focused on two areas - the planet away team and the ship investigating a fragment of a ship and uniform that is a century old. While it is challenging to sort out answers and what and where to go in order for us to get home Luke is throwing in enough intrigue and left turns that keeps us guessing.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We have JO’s? Er, what might be classed as JO are LOA at the moment with a couple who are kinda in the middle spotty but present. I’m hopeful as things move along that there will be more activity forthcoming.

Who is the shining star this month? I’ll say Luke for his throwing in things that we did not expect making the sim interesting and intriguing to follow

Gamemaster: Luke Hung

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The two away teams are both working with the same problem. How to get the Atlantis computer to give Capt. Bordeaux access to files locked by Admiral Kirk to aid in their search for a way home. The radiation on the piece of ship debris is matching the ground radiation on the planet which the team is trying to figure out where it came from since it is not exactly natural radiation.
‘Get more people engaged in the main sim

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? A big Arhghahahg out to the Wookie for keeping things moving on the away team and Tenzig for working with the Captain.

FComm’s Comments: The Atlantis has improved vastly since March, with the addition of a CMO and CSO. This fills all DH positions :)

USS Chimera

Commanding Officer: Katherine Dedul

How is your ship looking overall? Overall we are okay. I still have two DH vacancies to fill and there’s some AWOLing that I intend to address in the coming month (it seems to be the same people all the time). Beyond that, those who are not AWOL are keeping busy and posting which is fantastic! I have a fantastic crew and we seem to get along nicely so beyond addressing the habitual AWOLing, I mainly want to focus on filling the key positions and getting some more JOs as well to compliment my already excellent crew.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I always enjoy the threads that the marines are playing out. They are just enjoyable to read and I can’t wait to see what they get up to next. :)

Latest thread is here: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/chimera/posts/211977/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. My main focus will be recruiting the CE and CSO positions. Then addressing some chronic AWOLs.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Wrapping up the sim from Kirt’s GMT. The crew are engaging the High Commandant and I hope to have this done in the next week or so at most.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: With the sim wrapped up a new GM is needed. Kat is currently on the search for a new CSO and CE if anyone is interested! :)

USS Ogawa

Commanding Officer: Lindsay B

How is your ship looking overall? We’ve had a few weeks since the change in command to get all crew in place and all the new characters are doing check-in threads. It’s been a really busy month for the ship (not unexpectedly) and I expect that to taper off a little as everyone is settled in. We have all the key positions filled and Geoff and I have a plan to move the main sim forward.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? We have a few! Commander Myqian’s surprise promotion was great fun and she got a new XO to boot!

In keeping with the medical dramedy theme of the ship, our engaged couple (Bonner/Kane) tied the knot in an impromptu ceremony that was lovely. Things afterwards turned into chaos and drama when the toxic mother of the bride attacked a member of the crew and landed herself in the brig. Well, the groom did too briefly.

There have also been touching scenes revolving around V’alura and Solal, half-siblings with a difficult to treat illness that has them both on medical leave, and the (now) CSO who is Solal’s friend.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. The biggest focus for May is to get the sim rolling on all fronts so more of the crew can get involved. We have a plan, we just need to get it moving.

Executive Officer: James Sinclair

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? All DH’s are (mostly) active and participating in both Main sim and their own side things. Need to improve upon consistency in posting.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? All non DH crew are active, and any AWOL issues have been temporary.

Who is the shining star this month? Matt Evans as the CSO Lt. Achilleas Petrakos. He has done a phenomenal job of not only reintroducing the character to the ship, but also stepping back into the DH spot.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: Linds and James have done a fantastic job with the Owaga last month. The roster has filled up nicely! A few AWOLs worth looking at, but overall a great month for the Ogawa.

Fleet Command:

Each ship command is actively participating in their sims, and we’ve been in contact with most regarding any red flags or potential issues regarding AWOLS or vacancies. Mel and I are going to reach out to each ship and discuss any issues they may have regarding AWOLS, Vacancies, or getting people engaged. The Ogawa is the Shining Star for the month! Their board has been extremely active and little to no vacancies.

Overall, we need to work on AWOLS. One to three days outside of the posting speed is fine, but when we constantly see AWOL (12), it doesn’t set a good example. There has been improvements since reaching out to the team (and since my comments under each ship).

Mel has a few ideas that we’ll be looking into, so stay tuned for next month’s report :)
