The Meridian Fleet Report - April 2023

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

How is your ship looking overall? Ship is doing well with the new players posting. I ended the old sim which I think really went well. The new Sim has started with the new GM so I am looking forward to seeing how this goes. We lost the COS due to being banned from STF in something not related to our ship. Which was unfortunate as we had just gotten almost a full DH complement.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The ending of the old sim and how new and old players all joined in to make it a good ending. Lots of action and well played.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. Fill out the COS role which I am working on now. Then the CNS role which went vacant through AWOL.

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?A new sim has started. The Olinski has received orders to track down a freighter than has gone missing with a cargo of experimental weapons.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/olinski/posts/212008/

Who is the shining star this month? The GM is doing a great job of creating brass that kinda make you want to point at that the more pips one has is not a direct correlation to actually being a superior officer. Excellent work creating command staff and the start of what is going to be a very engaging main sim.

Gamemaster: Sage Pennington

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The CO has received orders to take the Olinski out to locate a missing cargo vessel.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: The Olinski is down in posts this month from March with 137 and April with 97. The roster is very thin, but Sydney is looking for a new COS and a CNS. The last month saw new additions posting. A quick glance at the thread list shows a variety of side sims in addition to the main sim. The Olinski is a Heavy Dreadnought that hosts an Air Group. There is potential here for a wide range of positions and characters. Sage has started a new sim, and I expect that will create plenty more activity.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: Travis Good

How is your ship looking overall? We are doing well on the ship. We have a new SIM that is taking us to a planet that we found awhile ago that had an image of a huge cubed shaped ship orbiting it. We are going to check it out. It is on the edge of Klingon space. We are lacking personnel but we are maintaining and have a family type atmosphere here and I hope recruiting will go more smoothly this month.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? We are having just an amazing array of character building going on from a Vulcan that is learning about love and how to control himself, to a couple of Vulcans attending a ceremony on New Vulcan and a new CoS that is teaching others combat and some are teaching us the art of having breakfast.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We are severely undermanned. We need JO’s in all departments. Please, if you know of someone looking for another ship to play on or if you, yourself is looking, then please stop by the Chernov for coffee or tea.

Executive Officer: Trin S

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’ve seen steady posting from most of our wonderful DHs since mid-March, especially as we approach the summer/winter months, when folks tend to have a little more time and energy to spend writing with us! We’ve got a new MainSIM, new SideSIMs, and threads always in the works. In May, I hope to encourage and make space for some of our busier DHs to join in the fun, too!

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We have two lovely JOs, Ric and Allison, who’ve been incredible (as always) this month! RL is ever-present but, when time allows, I’ve enjoyed reading their interactions between their characters Kastarak and Umbri and with others. Both are delightful characters with delightful writers and I cannot wait to read more!

Also, special shout-out to Ric/Kastarak for his promotion to Lieutenant (j.g.).

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: Self-Sim Ship

FComm’s Comments: Chernov is only slightly down from March’s 132 posts to April’s 106. She has a small but very dedicated crew. If you like older tech and the new Abramsverse movies this is really a great ship to be a part of. The stories are intricate, detailed, and fun. Chernov is a self-sim ship where the players drive the stories of their own characters as well as the crew as a whole. We spoke with Travis and Trin and they are on top of keeping their crew engaged and active. Travis just finished up a sim for the crew and they will be starting another one soon. They are looking for junior officers in all departments.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: David Shotton

How is your ship looking overall? Aside from a couple of Awols and an extended LOA from both myself and Shaun over the last month, the Saracen has been moving forward steadily thanks to Sam Haynes, our fantastic GMT and the main sim that has been active and interesting. We have no concerns DH wise although we are a little short on JO’s. Ava Henson as our most active JO has been a fantastic addition to our team.

Now that I am back posting I expect more threads to become active as the side sims get back into play, although with Shaun out on medical leave we still have more waiting in the wings for his stylish writing when he returns.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Mika Jackson in the main sim playing as an Ensign recently promoted to Acting Chief Engineer has been a highlight. She writes her characters inner turmoil and stepping into these big shoes on a ship like the Saracen wonderfully.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. Mainly side sims and activity in writing character stories.

Executive Officer: No report submitted - Excused

Gamemaster: Sam Haynes

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Saracen received a distress call from within the Farsinia system on the edge of Federation space. Arriving in system they found no immediate signs of the ship, but followed the wreckage, leading them into a thick, radioactive nebula. There, they have found the remains of ship and crew, and the investigation from the ship logs and the cloud of sensor probes/bouys around them… with a little analysis, has revealed a Cardassian Keldon-class heavy cruiser lurking in the murk. For the probes it was the last thing three of them saw, and the Cardassian is closing on the black box from the B’hari.

Can they stop this sneaking ship from stealing the evidence? Will they get away? Are they pirates, or something more nefarious? With the crew of the Saracen let them get away with their aggressions and violating Federation space? What is really going on out here in the middle of nowhere?

Join us, won’t you?

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? I have to hand it to the crew again. They’ve been doing a bang-up job, even without the CO. They continue to demonstrate exceptional drive and resourcefulness, and anticipation of what is needed.

FComm’s Comments: XO report is exempt as Shaun is on iLOA and taking care of his health.

Saracen had a very slow month with several outstanding AWOLs (one that is very concerning) and long leaves of absence from a couple members of the crew. They are down from 165 posts in March to 45 in April. We’ve chatted with Dave and he’s back on top of things providing lots of interaction after a rough month all around for the crew. Sam H has done an amazing job with the sim and keeping it moving forward with plenty for everyone to do. It is a very intriguing sim and deserves a read!

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? March had 152 posts which was up from Feb with 137. Not a huge increase, but it is more. We have added new characters to the roster this month and given the main sim a bit if a reboot to get old and new crew a fresh perspective.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The return of Randall Oyne Tavish William Ian Farquharson (played by Brian Richards) is my favorite moment this month. We have greatly missed his sense of style and epic sassiness!

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/sentinel/posts/211594/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. I want to see the main sim increase. We have great writers who are contributing, so I would like to see the main sim progress more than it has this month.

Executive Officer: Lucas Foxley

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DHs are working steadily on their different main sim threads, working towards helping the colony pass their evaluation. They are engaged in different side sims depending on their characterization and personalities of their characters. There are a couple of just over the awol limit that we are working on.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We have lots of new JOs with great variety in background and character. I am excited to see what sort of drama they can bring to Sentinel.

Who is the shining star this month? Brian as Thaddeus MacKenzie. I had a great time in his open thread letting Roman interact with him. I also enjoyed his reaction to our Yeoman Rand.

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Sim wis things continue on ahead. The CO is just about to meeting with the local Vok III governor. Up on the ship the crew is studying the strange stealt4h like ship they brought in to figure out what it contains and who it came from. Planet side the engineering team is finishing up their infrastructure inspections, medical is finishing the last unruly patient eval, security is off in the woods with the local park rangers tracking down irate animal behavior. Lastly also on the ship an odd band of comms seems unusually silent when it should be quite busy. Overall it seems things are not quite as ideal on Vok III

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: Sentinel has had a small uptick in posting. The last month saw new crew come on board and the command team is working on keeping AWOLs down and keeping everyone busy. Rob has provided a sim update and rebooted and revived threads and tasks for all the departments. There is a lot of side sims going on as people continue to work on developing the characters and getting to know each other. If you like TOS and enjoy working with old sci-fi tech, exploring the early years of Star Fleet, Sentinel is worth looking at.

The command teams across the board are mostly active. There were a few hiccups this month in activity, but as of the writing of this report those issues have been addressed. Brian and I sent out an email at the beginning of the month. We were disappointed that we didn’t hear back from everyone. However, I was quite pleased to see that all reports were turned in this month (minus one that was already excused). One thing I would like to see for the following month is that everyone who submits a report takes the effort to highlight the crew. Each report asks for a favorite moment, biggest contributor, or a shining star. When, as a club, we are constantly discussing how to retain new members and pull in more, I think it’s important to take that time to recognize each other’s contributions.

The ship that is the shining star for this month is the Chernov.
