The Black Fleet Report - April 2023

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Russell Watt

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The crew have been hailed by Iota Gamma outpost, under attack by something. The Europa have attempted to find out details about the outpost and the events there with differing levels of success. They have made contact with the last ship that made contact with the outpost (a ferengi trader I’ve called the Lobes (yes, I was creatively at a trough [low point, not an animal’s drinking container] at the time) and the Daimon was Don [small goods manufacturer], with his colleagues being [MS-]Dos and Doh [Re Mi] - a very low point) and are asking questions and seeking to find out why the systems had no information on the outpost, and then suddenly had information on it in its databanks. Information that matched the information known about the outpost that was known by Linds’ eidict memory character. Scans by the Chief Engineer show no weird power surges or drains, no unauthorised system access, nothing like that, just that the information suddenly appeared in the database at the precise same time that the Captain gave his authorisation code.

The crew have also investigated the Ferengi ship’s information, to see if there is anything untoward there beyond the names.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? The crew for posting and dealing with my haphazard read non-existant posting as GM. I’ve posted twice in the last week now, so hopefully I’m back on track to giving the crew a fun mission (if horror can be described as fun).

Each of the members of the crew on the bridge are contributing to the mission.

I look forward to posting within limits in May and continuing the Europa’s discovery of Life & Death

FComm’s Comments: The Europa is in a bit of a rough spot currently though there are some circumstances at play for that. I have been in communication with the CO and a plan for recovery is in the works. Despite all of that the activity on the ship has improved compared to last month and so I want to commend the crew for keeping themselves busy as best they can. CO report is excused and I believe the XO position is in transition.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: Luke Hung

How is your ship looking overall? The Genesis has started a new man sim which has found a problem with the transporter. It has sent the CE to sickbay and Ensign Baliey somewhere. The crew is looking to figure out why it spontaneously engaged and why only a scanner was left in her place.

SIDE SIMS-
Several side sims are continuing this month.

The shipwide side sim with the Lesscoo is coming to a boiling point when Beth thought it would be to her advantage to take the captain hostage.

Therapy is the name of the game in side sims with Slade climbing mountains and maneuvering mazes to keep the crew mentally healthy. Let hope her brand of therapy doesn’t have the COS throwing himself off the cliff in his own holodeck program.
.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Instead of a post, I would like to welcome D Inman as Ensign Kylie Brecker to the ship. There are a number of great posts to check out the character and the excellent writing by the author.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Looking for a CMO if anyone is interested hit me or the XO up for a chat about the position.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Russell Watt

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Ok … let’s see

The SORAS Incident sees the Genesis going into Fleet 6 HQ so that Captain and XO can meet with members of the Fleet Brass.

The Unreal Desperate Housewives of Betazoid (UDHoB) are taking their reality-holo-edudrama-series off planet and to the part of the Federation looked after by the Black Fleet and it seems they are in and around Black Rock at the same time as the Genesis. Yes, they are doing a ROAD TRIP and there’s the chance the UDHoB will have some of the crew of the Genesis in future episodes.

On board the ship,

the Counsellor (an UDHoB fanatic) is helping a crewmember with a ‘slight’ collecting/hoarding problem. Two Engineering NEs found an engineering tool where it shouldn’t be and tried to return it to its rightful place. Well, the first one touched it, and sparks surrounded the crew member and the tool, the second NE tried to pull her away, and too was caught by the sparks. Chief Engineer Dagen Thor grabbed a pair of insulated engineering gloves and approached, intending to remove the tool from them. Another Engineering officer ordered that the two NEs and any other lifesigns within a short radius of them (which included Dagen Thor) be transported to sickbay (in case of shock/zaps etc) The transporter operated engaged the transport successfully … but while the tool arrived in sickbay (all glowy and sparkly) neither of the NEs nor Dagen appeared The NE in Engineering has received a subspace message from the nephew of an officer that worked with Dagen years earlier … who has a warning from his Uncle for the now married Trill Various crew members are missing items, or are finding them in different locations

Given all of this, maybe working out if the Husband of one of the Desperate Housewives of Betazed knows that his wife and the pool boy are having a fling or not, and whether or not he is able to not give into the demands of his daughter, who is almost the same age as her step-mother would be kinder for the crew to work out … or working out whether the nephew’s cousin’s father’s sister’s grand niece’s brother in law’s aunt’s doctor should sit on the left hand side or the right hand side of the groom’s parents at the wedding would be easier.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Due to my lack of posting, there hasn’t been anything driving the sim forward for April 2023. This is totally on me and I plan to rectify that during May.

I’ve emailed Luke, he has exessed a desire for me to continue as GM, and I will improve things in May, to justify the patience that he and the Genesis’ crew have shown me.

FComm’s Comments: AWOL’s of the command staff are concerning. AWOL notices had been sent out earlier in the month to the XO and GM, but will need to be done again with the inclusion of the CO. I’m also concerned for the other AWOLs among the crew but activity seems to be up compared to the month of March. The main sim looks to be entertaining but I’m concerned, I know I’m saying that a lot, with how inactive the GM has been.

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

How is your ship looking overall? I believe that the Merrimack continues to be healthy. I cleared up the board earlier in the month, and we still have more active crew now than our average over the last ten years. We have lost two DHs this month for personal reasons that went beyond their involvement on the Merrimack, so this is not a problem that concerns me. While there are currently two small AWOLs, most members are participating regularly this month and within posting limits. There has been quite a lot of real-life issues and sickness recently. I have been seriously ill myself. This is adequate explanation for any LOAs and AWOLs, however the ship and the current Sim still tick along nicely. There are currently 3 active main Sim threads and 0 active self-Sim threads.
The Sim has reached the middle game. On the Bridge, the crew are wrestling with the approach of a comet that Warped into the system and therefore assume some nefarious reason. On the planet, a small party lead by the CR is visiting the mines, while the rest are in a meeting at the village with the elders. While our mission was simply to make contact and to dispel the myth that we are evil “Fedoomers” we can clearly see the hands of someone or something else at play, and a puzzle needs to be solved.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? I admit that I did like it went the CMO told the XO how to do his job and he replied to her in the most polite way possible.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I would like to fill the CSO and COS DH positions to bring us back to full strength again.

Executive Officer: Bob Spicer

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Last month the DH’s seemed to be all renewed, revigorated and more than up to the job which Rob gave to them. It was pretty much an epic month.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?JO’s were doing well regular posting and good communication all around the ship.

Who is the shining star this month? Clayton Strong as our Chief Engineer did a wonderful job .

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: Sim wise things continue to move ahead at a decent pace mostly. Ship side the crew is observing a strange comet that just somehow came out of warp and is heading into the system. Planetside engineering is working on checking over the native’s mines and equipment to help gain their trust, meanwhile with the rest of ther crew on the planet the CO has tentatively gained the trust of the Elders allowing medical, science, and the rest to also help further in their current mission goals.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

FComm’s Comments: The activity of the ship is slightly down from last month but overall looks great. I’m happy to see the crew engaged with the main sim and that the AWOLs have been few and far between. I do hope that the DH positions are filled quickly but it doesn’t look to have impacted the health of the ship yet.

Oed V

Commanding Officer: James Sinclair

How is your ship looking overall? Oed is still traveling at warp speed. Our five month posting marathon is still in full swing with 1,098 posts. Its a drop from March a bit, but still an amazing accomplishment for this group of amazingly talented writers. Our rostered and secondary characters are over 90% active, and the few AWOLs we have are sporadic.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The ‘podcast’ interview of the Lieutenant Governor is amazing.

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/oedv/posts/208198/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month. We want more people telling their stories on Oed. We have a truly colony-shaking PRISM starting in the next few day, adn seeing how that effects life on Oed V is a chance for anyone to jump in.

Executive Officer: Lindsay B

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We have about the usual suspects who are super active, others that are active, and a few that are present here and there, though not consistently. One of our biggest struggles in a self sim is getting characters who have bigger roles on the colony RPing with a wider variety of people. RL of course can get in the way, and the large number of posts (over 1000 again this month) can make it hard for people to see new threads that pop up. It’s going to be something James and I discuss how to manage, but there is only so much we can do.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Our civilians are doing their thing and adding to the ever present chaos and vibrancy that is Oed. It’s really lovely to see , though we lost a couple interesting people this last month.

Who is the shining star this month? Oed has too large an active roster to ever highlight just one person, but I’m really enjoying River’s threads. There’s been a great mix of feelings and subjects and it’s good to see more development for all the characters.

I’m really glad to see Steve J adding his flare to our intelligence group.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm’s Comments: There is a reason why Oed V is the busiest roleplay location in the club. I mean holy crap they nearly hit 1.1k posts this month so color me very impressed. Trend wise this is less than they did the month prior but I don’t think anyone can fault them or say they’ve been slacking. Keep it up folks.

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: Ray Branch

How is your ship looking overall? Almost everyone is actively participating in the sim, and only 1 AWOL at the time of writing the report. There’s definitely a lot going on in the sim… Romulans, Jem’Hadar, what could we find next?

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)?

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I def would like to fill any vacancies the Wolverine has. Our ship theme favors Intel, Tactical, and Security positions, so reach out if interested! I’m looking for a CMO and Intel Officer if anyone is interested!

Executive Officer: David Shotton

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The DH’s have been active in the main sim as well as with a number of new writers coming on in JO and specialist swing positions over the last couple of months, although we are looking for a CMO with a recent in-ship character switch up seeing new characters in the XO and CSO positions being brought on. Side sims have been a little more limited to getting the characters of the newer writers checked through and active, so looking forward we should see more story specific side sims underway.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The JO’s have been great, along with some minor AWOLS as everybody has now and then. They have taken their opportunities to get involved, especially with the main sim. Looking forward to seeing these characters developing their own story as we move along.

Who is the shining star this month? Going for a twofor this month, with Jeremy Snyder and Alexander Hampshire, two of our newer JO’s, both being highly active in the main sim and with side-threads over the last month. Great writing from the both of them.

Gamemaster: Gene Gibbs

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Wolverine was sent to the Myst system to check on a science vessel named the Pythagoras which had not reported in. They in turn were checking on an archaeological team on the surface of the planet Myst. The system, while not strategic due to a corrosive effect the space and spatial dust had on processed metals like, oh, ship’s hulls for instance, was disputed by three races - the Kein, Wis and the Romulans. The former two were in an on again off again conflict with one another over the otherwise mineral rich system among other issues. Neither were members of the Federation or were well known.

The Wolverine found the Pythagoras abandoned with their sensors and communications damaged. An object found inside a sleeping Sehlat’s crate was moved to the Wolverine which, upon activation, sent over a great amount of data unexpectedly to their holosuite. This is being checked out. As well on the Pythagoras there was found logs of the CMO there treating an injured Kein as well as a trace of Romulan DNA. Scans indicated, to make things even more odd, a wreck of a Jem’hadar ship upon a planetoid. A shuttle has been dispatched to look into that.

Meanwhile on the planet, as one officer has said, Vulcans are popping out of the mists like from a Pez device. A shuttle group has landed and made their way to the archaeological base camp finding it deserted but with signs of it being disturbed. Two Vulcan archaeologists entered the camp and, while engaging with the away team, another Vulcan appeared and collapsed with serious injuries. He had a uniform on with captain’s pips. He is currently being treated. Still no obvious sign of the missing crew of the Pythagoras, however there is hope that the Vulcan archaeologists can shed some light on what had happened down on the world where their subspace transmitter was found damaged.

They mysteries go on and answers are starting to get filled in, if slowly.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? Ray has been doing well in stepping into the CO’s shoes and hitting the sim running as it were.

FComm’s Comments: The Wolverine has been doing decently this month. There have been a couple of AWOLs that were concerning but the ship activity has been healthy. Overall the activity has increased compared to the month prior. I’m happy with how things are going.
