The Black Fleet Report - January 2020

USS Europa

Commanding Officer: Joe P

Crew Posting Level: 2
Senior Staff Posting Level: 1
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: Posting dropped off precipitously this month thanks to the holidays; pretty much everyone was not posting much or at all in the second half of December. I’m not really worried at all about it though; very nearly everybody came back promptly on January 2 when the relaxed limits ended, and we’re already on track to have at least an average January.

Vacancies: We’ll take JOs in any department.

Executive Officer: Janice B.

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: During the holidays last year and the first week of January in the brand new 2020, it’s not a surprise our posting levels dropped. The holidays are always a busy time for everyone. However, since they have dropped I’m hoping we can get back on schedule. So I hope everyone had a good time and spent it with those they care for.

Currently to give a small taste of the Sim our GTM, Christopher Bennett, has created and we’re currently wrapping up:

On the bridge, a fire fight broke out sending the bridge crew scrambling to defend themselves. When the bolts stop flying, the CO and bridge scramble to figure out what happened and repair the damages. Who started the attack and why?

Meanwhile, on the planet Avik and her away team have found the man they have been tracking. Covered in wounds from what appears to be an invisible attacker bearing down on him, the away team now has to save him. Can they do it or will they fail?

Spotlight: I want to spotlight the crew members who managed to post during the holidays despite their busy schedule. The holidays are always chaotic and time consuming, which warms the CO and my hearts to see the dedication with each post. I look forward to sharing a brand new year with all of you.

Vacancies: We’re still looking for members interested in becoming JO officers on the Europa. If you have a character idea please contact JoeP and/or myself on the site or Discord. Our names are JoeP and Fallenreaper respectively on the chat.

Sim Overview: The Sim has slowed down due to the holidays. The Away team has just left the camp of a lost human, only find him engaged in a life or death struggle with unknown and invisible assailants which has left him gravely injured. How did he get so far away from home?

On the ship, the crew is trying to figure out who tried to assassinate the captain and how he just managed to disappear. They are also trying to figure out why he tried to sabotage the ship. How did this assassin get on board and why is he trying to kill the Captain? What does the large asteroid that is orbiting the system have to do with any of this?

FComm’s Comments: As noted there was a fall off for activity in December for the holidays but nothing I didn’t expect. Once this was over the Europa did spring back pretty quick to normal rates, and as of now only one person is awol and late respectively. Currently the GM is LOA due to real life commitments but hopefully that will be resolved soon and the sim can continue to a resolution. As with my AFComm’s comments I share some of their thoughts on the fast rate of the ship not always being met but having spoken to Joe I believe for now the matter is being looked into and handled.

AFComm’s Comments: There was a bit of fall off in activity during December but to be expected during a major holiday month. I’m concerned that it’s rated as a fast ship though, as the posting rate for a fast ship are frequently not being met. It would be nice to fill out the roster a little more with JO’s but the overall crew complement is on point.

USS Genesis

Commanding Officer: No report submitted

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Comments: I’m concerned with the lack of any reports from the command team despite being given amble lead time of reminders twice. No contact was given for an excuse from anyone either that came my way. Looking things over on the ship currently there are a few late members and two awols one of which is in an extreme case. There is also a long term loa which should be looked at being addressed. In the coming month I plan to sit down with the command team to reinforce getting reports in on time and to address the current trends on the ship. Sim wise engagement is as my AFComm said hit or miss but in spots seems to be moving along in recovering from the holiday slump.

AFComm’s Comments: Just as a quick aside, the MOTD colors of the background image, in my opinion, are atrocious. Crew engagement seems hit or miss for the most part, with AWOLs and long LOAs being a common point. The GM looks to be engaging as well as he can within the confines of overall crew engagement. I’m hoping that January will turn out to be a more engaging month for everyone as there are no major holidays.

USS Merrimack

Commanding Officer: David Fergusson

Crew Posting Level: 9
Senior Staff Posting Level: 8
Overall Ship Health: 8

Ship Status: This current Sim concluded and wrapped up satisfactorily. The Orion aggressors were destroyed by the Creator Stone. The Klingons had the insult of the Orions raiding their border outpost revenged. The Romulans were not interested in legends, and Captain Glen’s plan to quarantine the system became unnecessary, as the now repaired, infrastructure and Stone blinked out of existence, and went off to explore elsewhere. Which only left the problem of Ginger the gigantic house cat, who was conveniently returned to his normal size again before the Stone left.

At the start of the month I had some serious concerns about the decline in the health of the ship with us missing two DHs and having several AWOLs. I am happy to report that the crisis has now been resolved and we have a full compliment of DHs once again, with the help of some old Merrimack crew members returning to the fold. Until the holiday break, the posting levels had returned to a very healthy position and I look forward to the next Sim with these experienced players aboard.

Spotlight: While the posting by senior staff had dipped recently before it recovered again, I think one shinning light among all this must be David Robinson Jr who has been consistent throughout the last few months. Not only does he post regularly as Ensign Engineer Jasper Ericson but given the opportunity to join a landing party/away mission for the first time, his character has excelled. His posts were very perceptive and insightful and as a player he has grown immensely since he joined the ship, both in confidence and in his skill. As we near the end of 2019, if I had to pick one spotlight for the last year, then I would probably also choose his interactions with the speaking orb within this current Sim.

Vacancies: The DH positions are all now currently filled again, but I am always looking for new recruits to the Merrimack. I can accommodate you if you have an idea for a non-standard position or character, just talk to me about it. The posting rate is slow, so even people with very busy real lives can play a junior character who only needs to post once a week. It is a fun environment but the quality is always of a high standard and I guarantee you will enjoy playing with us. You also get to take part in Robert’s exceptional Sims for which we are very lucky.

Ship Status: Things were as expected for the holiday season.

Spotlight: Great sim by the GM

Sim Overview: I’m quite happy with the Merrimack this past month, even with the holiday slump the crew pushed on to finish up the previous sim. Tha’nos and his lackeys have been either vaporized or sent to some alternate reality by the mysterious Creators. The Klingons and Romulans took their leave shortly after as did the crew of the Avenger and Merrimack who got to witness the Creators reality shifting the entire system they were in to some other plane of existence for exploration purposes and further testing. Ginger the ship’s mascot/cat got turned back into a normal kitty after being a big tiger!

Spotlight: Dave the CO for his portrayal of Ginger’s thoughts being a tiger had me laughing so hard I couldn’t post for a day!

FComm Comments: As noted in my gm report the sim has just wrapped up, and the next one is going to be started soon. While there is one extreme awol at the moment. I will be addressing this with the command team shortly and hope to see it resolved one way or another. Otherwise the Merrimack is in good shape for the coming month.

AFComm’s Comments: Seems to be a small crew but doing well with what they have. A couple of concerns with some members not posting for a bit, so hoping nothing untoward has happened. Will be watching to see if things will be picking up after the holiday break.

Oed V

Commanding Officer: Tony Findora

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: December is always a slow month, but it didn’t slow things down on Oed too much. Oed is in need of some revitalizing, which will be happening in the coming months. Roster will be looked over and I’m really hoping that January turns out to at least be a better month. Hopefully by February or March we will see some big difference.

On a side note, honestly I’m very much looking forward to working with Rob as our FComm. He’s already given the impression that he is there if we need the assistance and will do what he can to help out. That alone is a huge motivator.

Spotlight: I was unable to be around for most of December due to a multitude of issues which I will share soon with everyone, so I can’t honestly give a good spotlight at the moment.

Vacancies: Should all be updated on the profile, however a more thorough update will be made soon.

Executive Officer: Sidney Parker

Crew Posting Level: 5
Senior Staff Posting Level: 5
Overall Ship Health: 5

Ship Status: I’m giving OED a middle of the road score this month. Its the holidays so any posting is good posting. However OED has not gone dormant like other ships so I am happy to see that. I just want to see us add some more quality players to the roster in the new year. I don’t think more is better. Rather a few who really enjoy self posting and not needed a GM to keep something moving.

Spotlight: Luke Paris for his posting consistency as Shinzak. Sam Pennington for interacting in several threads as the Intel Officer.

Gamemaster: No report submitted

FComm Comments: Like my AFComm I’m a bit concerned with OED having close to half the roster awol or loa. I’ll be contacting the command team this coming month to get this sorted ASAP. There is some effort by those active to get a self sim going which is still in the formation stages it seems. I’m hoping for OED V to jump back to an active state but some major clean up on the roster is probably in order in the coming month.

AFComm’s Comments: I’m a bit concerned as half the crew, though some people have more than one character on the roster, are either AWOL or on an extended LOA. I recognize that it was the holidays and a self-sim environment, so not a major concern but definitely a point to keep watch over.

USS Olympic

Commanding Officer: No report submitted, CO Excused due to LOA

Executive Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: Sam finished up his GMT sim with flying colors. A very good sim for his first one. I’m looking forward to how the new sim shapes up as Sam is staying on. If we go by his first sim as an indicator, I’ve no fears that the new one will be just as good.

We go from helping Romulan refugees to rescuing a small craft from a black hole. Small craft, one human life sign, and the old Earth Morse code SOS. Not too mysterious, right? Just another day, on the Oly!!!

This month we welcomed Cass Young to the ship as our new CSO. I’m looking forward to seeing what Cass brings to the table!!

On a side sim note, Our CNS, Miriam is running a VR adventure that has only involved the XO and CE in a medieval fantasy setting, though it appears our new CSO is getting involved as well. Anybody on the ship can get involved as the troupe travels to the Underdark!!!!

Vacancies: CMO!! CMO!!! CMO!!! We recently lost our longtime CMO and have been having a difficult time recruiting a new one. I’ve reached out numerous time to various members, but have had no luck. (Same luck on the Wolverine!! :( ). What? No one wants to be a doctor anymore??

Also, can use JO’s in all departments across the ship, but again, CMO is the main concern right now.

Gamemaster: Sam Pennington

Crew Posting Level: 4
Senior Staff Posting Level: 4
Overall Ship Health: 5

Sim Overview: A new sim has begun. A pod stuck in a black hole has been retrieved by the crew of the Olympic. A single human life sign appears to be inside.

FComm Comments: Last sim ended new sim started as mentioned in the reports. CO is excused from the report due to LOA due to real life. Sim seems interesting so far to start with the single life sign in the pod being towed out of the hole in space. I did some digging and forwarded a possible CMO player for the CO/XO just waiting now on them to get back to the player to finalize things one way or another. I’m hoping if we can get the core DH’s filled from there to then start working on JOs. Currently the GM is awol

AFComm’s Comments: A very small crew of just senior staff without a CMO. Also afflicted by the holiday’s it seems. I’m hoping that the start of a new sim and a new year brings activity and life back to the ship. Will continue observing.

USS Wolverine

Commanding Officer: Terry Sullivan

Crew Posting Level: 6
Senior Staff Posting Level: 6
Overall Ship Health: 6

Ship Status: We finished the sim travelling back in time to the Delta Quadrant in December. The mission was a success! The mission was to gather as much intel on the Underspace as possible. We did that and successfully used the Improbability Drive to use. That was also a success, though some crew members might argue differently!!

We’re just getting underway with a new sim that Jason has for us.. It starts out with shore leave to Risa, but with Jason as the GM, I have a feeling that this won’t be a restful vacation!!!

The holiday break is over, so I’m hoping that posting gets back to normal.

Vacancies: Desperate need for a CMO and CSO. We’ve been without those positions for waaaaay too long. We’ve been able to survive without them (with NPC’s when needed), but I really want to see those positions filled.

We’re good with security JO’s, but need some in engineering, medical, and science, but again the pressing concern is getting those DH positions filled first.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: Jason Lee

Crew Posting Level: 3
Senior Staff Posting Level: 3
Overall Ship Health: 8

Sim Overview: We’re in between sims. And as it is the holidays, posting has slowed.

Spotlight: None at this time

FComm Comments: No report from the XO despite having amble reminder, will be addressing this in the coming month. I’m concerned with the ship’s health despite my efforts to find a CMO/CSO no one seems interested especially with the current state of the roster. Some activity is picking up but getting the ship back on its feet will obviously be a step by step series of hurdles. Right now my focus is getting DH’s and erasing the habits of people marking themselves as loa when they’re active still to avoid awol limits. I’m hoping to address this in the coming month. With the new sim starting on risa hopefully the crew will jump in with both feet and get things rolling together.

AFComm’s Comments: With a new sim incoming and the holidays over posting should be picking up. Will be watching to see that it does.
